The 6201 and 6210 telephones are single-line sets capable
of operating behind any Lucent Technologies Business
Communications System (BCS) switch including DEFINITY,
MERLIN LEGEND, and DIMENSION PBXs.

Special Features:
Note: If you are using a 6201 telephone, you CANNOT
use the switchhook (or switchhook flash function) to
access switch features.
Flash Flash
(on the 6210 telephone only) — Press
, on
the 6210 telephone, instead of pressing the switchhook for
features such as Conference with business communications
systems.
Redial Redial
(on the 6210 telephone only) — Press , on
the 6210 telephone, in order to redial the las t number that
you dialed from the dial pad.
Hold
(on the 6210 telephone only) — Press the red

button, on the 6210 telephone, in order to put a call
on hold while you perform another task.
The Message Light (on the 6210 telephone only) — The red
Message light, on the 6210 telephone, flashes when you
have a message and whenever a call rings at your
telephone. This light is labeled .
The Ringer volume control — On the 6201 and the 6210
telephones, set the 3-position Ringer volume control to raise
or lower the volume of the tone ringer. The volume control is
labeled .
The Handset volume control (labeled ) — On the

the 6210 telephones, use this Handset volume
control button to raise or lower the volume of the hands et
receive level. To raise the volume, press the upper half of
the button labeled ; to lower the handset volume, press
the lower half of the button labeled .There are four
available volume levels.
The Data Jack (on the 6210 telephone only; labeled ) —
You can use this jack on the 6210 telephone for connecting
a device such as a modem to your telephone.

Timed Disconnect feature. No special settings are needed
to engage these features.

in the manufacture of your new telephone. Safety is a major
factor in the design of every set, but, safety is YOUR
responsibility too.
Please read carefully th e help fu l tips lis ted belo w and on th e nex t
page. These suggestio ns will enabl e you to take fu ll advantag e of
your new telephone. Then, retain these tips for later use.
Use
When using your telephone equipment, the following safety
precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shoc k, and injury to persons.
■ Read and understand all instructions.
■ Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the telephone.

■ This telep hone can be hazardous if immers ed in water. To
avoid the possibility of electric shock, do not use it while you
are wet. If you accidentally drop the telephone into water, do
not retrieve it un til you have first unplugged the line cord from
the modular jac k. Then, call service personnel to ask about a
replacement.
■ Avoid us ing the telephone during electrical storms in your
immediate area. There is a risk of electric sh ock from lightni ng.
Urgent calls should be brief. Even though protective measures
may have been installed to limit electrical surges from entering
your business, absolute protection from lightning is impossible.
■ If you suspect a natural gas leak, report it immediately, but use
a telephone away from the area in question. The telephone’s
electrical con tact s cou ld gene rat e a t iny sp ark. Whi le u nlikely, it
is possible that this spark could ignite heavy concentrations of
gas.
■ Never push objects of any kind into the equipment through
housing slots since they may touch hazard ous voltage po ints or
short out parts that could result in a risk of electric shock.
■ Never spill liquid of any kind on the telephone. If liquid is
spilled, however, refer servicing to proper service person nel.
■ To reduce the risk of elect ric shock, do not disassemble this
telephone. There are no user serviceable parts . Opening or
removing covers may expose you to hazardous volt ages.
Incorrect reassembly can cause electric sh ock when the
telephone is subsequently used.
Service
1 Before cleaning, unplug the telephone from the modular wall
jack. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a
damp cloth for cleaning.
2 Unplug the telep hone from the modular wall jack. Be sure to
refer servicing to qualified service personnel when these
conditions exist:
— If liquid has been spilled into the telephone.
— If the telephone has been exposed to rain or water.
— If the telephone has been dropped or the housing has
been damaged.
— If you note a distinct change in the performance of the
telephone.
