For the

en gine we r ecommend a f uel with 25% nitro. A hig her nitro content
decre ases yo ur engi ne’s lifetime . Ther efore do never exceed 36% nit ro.
A good air fi lter is very important for the l ife of your engine. Never run without an air fi lter, as
quick and permane nt damage will result! Don’t forge t to impregn ate the air fi lter with a suitable
oil before usage. Carefully clean the airfi lte r at le ast after ever y tenth tank. Replace the air fi lter
ever y 3 litr es (~1 gallon) of usag e.
We rec ommen d the use of our LRP Hi-Flow 2-stage air fi lter (No. 36560) toge
ther with our L RP
Hi-Flow air fi lter oil (No
. 36590 ).
Use only standard sty le glow- plugs for this engine. We recommend usi ng our line of high-q uality
LRP Plati num / Iridium glowp lugs
(No. 35030 - No. 3506 0
, ava ilabe as R3 to R6). Check them
freq uently and never run with wor n-out or old glow-p lugs since they could damage yo ur engine.
They turn dull when your engine was too lean and should be replaced. T hey should stay bright
like chrome. If t he g lowplugs wear out too fast, an additional 0.1mm shim bet ween burnroom
and liner is recommend ed. Whenever you have trouble with the engine stalling for no reason,
replace the glow-plug fi rst !
TIP: Our LRP raceteam always use s
a LR P Platinum / Iridium R6 (No. 35060) plug for the

always works up to your full satisf action.
Pleas e read and under stand these i nstructions comp letely before you use this produc t!
With operating th is product
, you accept the L RP warrant y terms .
Never run without a pipe since this will cause excess ive overheating and may damage your
engine. A good pipe has a very huge effect on the per formance of a 2-st roke eng ine. For th e LRP

We reco mmend a real head cl eara nce betwee n pist on and b urnr oom of about 0.75mm (0.029“)

We sugge st to start with 0.20mm (0.008“) shims underneath the combustion chamber. You
may want to ad just the shims depending on nitro-conte nt (see table) or t rack layout. Large
tracks may requi re an extr a 0.10mm (0.004“) sh im to reach higher tops peed and improved fuel
consumptio n, but this will decre ase acc eleration s lightly.

Carbu retor ventu ri inse rts :
In order t
o af fect the fuel/air mixture, you can use d iff erent venturi insert s on this car bure tor.
These are to fi netu ne your engine to differe nt track layouts.
There ar e th ree dif ferent ventur is
coming with the engine: 7.5mm, 8.5mm and 9.0mm.
- 9.0mm has the most
power
, 7.5mm has the best fuel consumpt ion.
P
roper run-in of the engine is a ver y important step in ensuring th at you get the highest p erfor-
mance an d lifet ime of your en gine.
Take your time for proper run-in.
Do not use run-in benches ,
but use your car for run -in.
Use the same f uel as y ou w ill be using for the life of the engine.
Special run- in fuel is not needed. If your engi ne doesn’t star t eas ily you may tr y loosen the gl ow-

LRP dis trib utor ‘s general policy.
It never hur ts to have the mixture too r ich, but NEVER let the mixtu re get t oo lean. Always tune
from rich to lean. If in doubt , riche n it up fi r st! Never try to tune a cold engine, run 3-5 minutes to
get the engine up to run ning te mper ature before doing any adjustme nts!
Basic t uning procedure is as follows:
2. Start tuning you r engin e with t he set tings too rich.
3. Always tune main- speed needl e (top-end ) fi rst.
4. Tune low speed needle next.
5. Reset idle speed screw.
Proce dure:
2. Go to the track with the main-needle s et too r ich, there should be heav y smoke coming from
the muffl er now.
3. Tune the engine by l eanin g the main-needle 1/ 8 turn at a time (turn clockw ise).
- Your goal w ill be that the e ngine w ill jus t reach maximum RPM on the st raightawa y.
- Open the main-needle again by an 1/8 turn (turn counter-cl ockw ise) whe n you have reac hed
that point. Th is should be the per fect setting for the main-needle (tempe rature of 110-130°C /
230-266°F).
- If the main-ne edle is se t too lean, the engine will overheat and wil l not acce lera te smoothly.
If this happens, immed iately stop the engin e and rich en the mai n-needle (count erclo ck-
wise) 1/4 turn befor e a new at temp t.
4. Adjust the low speed needle now. Run 3 full l aps, stop the car ne ar you and le t it idle for
5secs . „Push off“. It should have slightly richen ed up (idle rpm gets lower), but still accelerate
quick ly. If it died bef ore the 5secs, check t he foll owing :
- If the rp m co nsta ntly decrease s an d fi nally t he e ngine stops, the low speed needle is too
rich.
- If the idle-speed i ncreases during idle, the l ow spee d needle is too le an.
5. You may have to re-adjust t he idle-speed now. If it idles too high , the clutch may not relea se
compl etel y and you will lose „snap“ off the corner s. If it idles too low, it may stall at the start ,
or at the end of th e straight away when you release the thr ott le.
Ways to measure t he engi ne temp erature:
ture reading. Plac e the gau ge dire ctly over the e ngine p ointed at the g low plu g.
shoul d just slowly boil of f (2-3se cs). I t should not dan ce around as if it were on a hot griddle,
nor sho uld it lay ther e and steam.
Use after-run oil to keep everything lubr icated after you have fi nished your day. A fter-run oil
helps fo r an easy start the nex t tim e and prote cts your internals against rus t. Use only „aft er-ru n
oil“ speciall y formu lated for R/C engines. Do no t use silicone shock oil or similar as th ey will
serio usly harm your engine. We recommend to use our LRP After-Run oil (No. 37910), which you
shoul d use regular ly af ter using your e ngine .
Proce dure:
First let the tank run compl etel y emp ty at idle until i t runs out of fuel (tr y re -starting it several
times ), next pu t a few drops down the open carbureto r and a few drops down the glow plug hol e.
Spin it over for 5 seconds on the st art er box and you are done.
Treat your engine w ith care and check it frequentl y. This engine will rev up to 38.500 RPM and
any fault at such high RPM can cause serious damage. All moving parts inside th e engine are
subject to wear, you must know if a piston/lin er/co nrod has wo rn out and i f they need t o b e
replaced. If you replace one part, please check if every thing else is still in good shape at the
same t ime. I f you only change one part and other par ts are in bad shape, there’s the possibility
that there will be a new failure soon !
Some import ant matter s:
the engine cou ld make c onsiderable damage.
crankshaf t is still round and at a g ood siz e. If not, also repla ce the cr ankshaft.
before inst allation an d pleas e use som e oil (af ter-run is su ited well) to l ubric ate every thing.
