SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This appliance is for
HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
It may be plugged into a standard electric outlet.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE RICE COOKER FOR THE FIRST TIME.
When using electrical appliances, especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk
of re, electric shock, and/or injury to
persons, including the following:
• Do not touch hot surfaces.
• Use potholders when removing
cover or handling hot containers.
• To protect against electric shock,
do not immerse cord, plug or base unit in water or other liquid.
• Close supervision is necessary
when any appliance is used by or near children.
• Unplug from outlet when not in
use. Allow to cool before cleaning.
• Do not operate appliance with
damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to authorized service facility for examination,
repair or adjustment.
• The use of accessory attachments
not recommended by this appliance manufacturer may cause
inju ry.
• Do not use outdoors.
• Do not let cord hang over edge
of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas
or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Extreme caution must be used
when moving an appliance containing hot food, water or other hot liquids.
• Do not use appliance for other
than intended use.
• Lift and open cover carefully to
avoid scalding, and allow water to drip into unit.
• Do not store any materials other
than the manufacturer’s recommended accessories in this unit when not in use.
• Never place liquid in the outer pot,
place it only in the inner pot.
• Never try to force cook lever to
stay in the ‘Cook’ position after it has shifted automatically to the ‘Warm’ position.
• Always place inner pot inside
outer pot before plugging in the rice cooker.
• When plugging in the cooker,
always be sure inner pot contains the liquid, or be ready to add oil or butter immediately to the inner pot.
• Save these instructions and refer
to them often.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
Page 4
NOTE: Always wipe down the outer surface of the inner pot before placing it inside the cooker. Any moisture remaining on the inner pot surface may cause a crackling noise while the unit is heating up. Except for actual cooking areas, keep all surfaces dry to prevent damage to the inner workings of the appliance while it is in operation.
A short power- supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from entanglement or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used with care; however, its marked electrical rating should be at least as great as the electrical rating of this appliance. The extension cord should not drape over the counter or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
POLARIZED PLUG (FOR 120 VOLTS)
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this
plug is intended to t into a polarized
outlet only one way. If the plug does
not t fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not t, contact a qualied electrician. Do not tempt to
modify the plug in any way.
LINE CORD SAFETY TIPS
1. Never pull or yank on the cord or appliance.
2. To insert plug, grasp it rmly and
guide in into outlet.
3. To disconnect appliance, grasp plug and remove it from outlet.
4. Before each use, inspect the line
cord for cuts and/or abrasion marks.
If any are found, this indicates that the appliance should be serviced and the line cord replaced. Please return it to an authorized service representative.
5. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance, as this could place undue stress on the cord where it enters the appliance and cause it to fray and break.
DO NOT OPERATE APPLIANCE IF THE LINE CORD SHOWS ANY DAMAGE OR IF APPLIANCE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY OR STOPS WORKING ENTIRELY.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its
service agent or a similarly qualied
person in order to avoid a hazard.

1. Before placing the inner pot into the cooker, be sure the heating plate and outside surface of the inner pot are clean and dry. Do not allow loose rice or food
particles to fall into the outer cooking part. The inner pot must t snugly onto
the heating plate to ensure proper contact for cooking. Place desired amount of rice into the inner pot. Add cold water to the desired level. Since all varietals of rice use different rice to water cooking ratios, we recommend that you follow the cooking directions on the rice bag or box. You may add oil or butter to prevent the rice from sticking.
NOTE: Measuring cup included with your cooker is not a standard measuring
cup but only 6 oz!
2. Taste and texture of the cooked rice will vary depending on the type of rice used and the length of cooking time. The amount of water in the inner pot
controls the cooking time. For softer, ufer rice, you may want to add a little more water; for rmer crunchier rice, add a little less water.
NOTE: When using Lotus Foods rice varietals, it is best to use the amounts of
rice and water provided in the cooking directions. For white rice, Bhutanese Red Rice, and Jade Pearl Rice™ use 1.5 cups water per one cup of rice; for brown and Forbidden Rice® use 1.75 cups water per one cup of rice.

3. Whole grain rice (brown and black) will take longer to cook than white rice and require more water. It is always a good idea to keep the rice on the WARM cycle
for at least 5 minutes to allow the steam to nish cooking the rice.
4. Place the lid on the rice cooker. Plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The WARM indictor light will come on. Push the ON switch down and the COOK indicator light will come on. As the rice expands and cooks, steam will come out of the vent on the lid. Do not place the cooker directly under your cabinet and take care not to place your hand on top of the vent as well. Slight spattering along the edges is normal.
NOTE: Cooking will begin only when the ON switch is pushed down and the
inner pot is in position in the unit.
5. When the water has been absorbed, the cooker will automatically switch from cooking mode to WARM (the warm indicator light will come on) and will continue until the unit is unplugged. Rice can be kept warm for several hours. For best results, let the cooked rice sit for at least 5 minutes before stirring or
removing. This allows the steam to nish the cooking process.
NOTE: Do not try to prevent the cooker from switching to the WARM
cycle. Do not immediately depress the switch again after it has begun the WARM cycle.
6. Fluff rice with a plastic or wooden utensil and if desired, mix in ingredients such as minced vegetables.
7. When done, unplug the unit. Always clean the cooker thoroughly as soon as possible after each use.
POINTS TO REMEMBER
• Do not turn on rice cooker when empty of water.
• Avoid placing unit under any wall cabinets when operating, and avoid reach-
ing over the unit when it is operating for much steam is generated.
• Cooking times are estimated and depend on the quantity, size and desired
texture of each rice.
• Cooking times may be shortened or lengthened according to personal taste
• Use hot pads or oven mitts when removing the lid from the rice cooker or
the inner pot from the outer cooker. Open the lid carefully to allow steam to escape safely.
• Do not use any parts in the microwave or on any cooking/heating surface.
• Unplug when not in use
• Allow the unit to cool before cleaning.
Many other foods may be cooked in the Rice Cooker & Steamer including
meat, sh, poultry, vegetables, or even pudding and cakes. Steam cooking is quick and easy, and more importantly, it preserves the original avors and
nutritional value.
Page 7
1. To steam cook add water to the inner pot and place the steaming tray on top of the inner rim of the pot.
2. Put the food in the steaming tray and place the lid on the cooker.
3. Plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The WARM indictor light will come on. Push the ON switch down and the COOK indicator light will come on. As the water boils in the inner pot steam will come out of the vent on the lid. Do not place the cooker directly under your cabinet and take care not to place your hand on top of the vent as well.
NOTE: Cooking will begin only when the ON switch is pushed down and the
inner pot is in position in the unit.
4. Steam until done to taste.
NOTE: When steaming vegetables while cooking rice, you may need to
increase the water to rice ratio based on the density of the vegetables you are steaming.
5. When removing the lid after steaming puddings, custards or cakes, take care not to allow water droplets from the lid to fall on the food.
NOTE: Steam cooking times will vary depending on the food being cooked
and the desired degree of doneness. Experiment with this healthy method of cooking by varying the quantity of the water and the cooking time. This will help you to obtain the best results to suit your individual taste.
OTHER GREAT IDEAS FOR USING YOUR RICE COOKER AND STEAMER
Lotus Foods Rice Cooker and Steamer cooks to perfection other grains in addition to rice, such as quinoa (pronounced ‘keen-wa’) and millet. It also steams artichokes perfectly. Place a washed artichoke with the stem cut in the stainless steel inner pot and add 2.5 cups of water. Put the empty vegetable steamer tray and the lid on the rice pot and press the lever to “cook”. When the water is
evaporated, the lever will ip to “warm”. Unplug the unit and enjoy a perfectly
cooked artichoke. (Note: do not leave the rice cooker on the warm setting after the water is evaporated or you may risk dry burning the inner pot.)

Page 8
This appliance requires little maintenance. It contains no user serviceable parts. Never open or remove bottom cover of unit. Do no try to repair appliance your-
self. Refer it to qualied personnel if servicing is needed.
BEFORE WASHING, UNPLUG CORD FROM OUTLET AND ALLOW RICE COOKER TO COOL. NEVER IMMERSE OUTER POT IN WATER. TO CLEAN INNER POT, COVER, MEASURING CUP AND SPATULA:
• Wash in hot , soapy water; rinse and dry all parts
• Do not use abrasive cleaners. It is best to rst soak the inner pot in hot
soapy water. NOTE: You can also make a nice ‘rice tea’ drink while cleaning your cooker at the same time. Simply put a cup of cold water in the cooker and push the ON button down to ‘Cook’. Let the water heat up before pushing the ‘Cook’ button up to ‘Warm’. Using a strainer, pour the ‘tea’ into a drinking cup. Unplug the unit and the pot will easily clean.
• Wash inner pot, cover, measuring cup and spatula in warm, soapy water.
Rinse and dry thoroughly
• Do not use harsh detergent or abrasive cleansers on any parts of the appliance.
• Never immerse outer pot and base in water or any other liquid.
TO STORE: Unplug unit; store in its box in a clean, dry place. Never store it while it is hot or still plugged in. Make sure to clean before storing. Never wrap cord tightly around the appliance. Do not put any stress on the cord where it enters the unit, as it could cause the cord to fray and break.
TIPS FOR KEEPING THE STAINLESS STEEL LOOKING NEW:
To keep the inside of your rice cooker shiny and new, occasionally pour club soda
on a soft cloth and buff. You can also sprinkle all-purpose our on the inside of
the stainless steel inner bowl and vegetable tray and buff with a soft cloth.
CAUTION:
1. To reduce the risk of electric shock, cook only in removable inner pot.
DO NOT IMMERSE THE BASE, CORD OR PLUG IN WATER OR
OTHER LIQUID.
2. If water should accidentally enter the switch mechanism or spill onto the heating plate, carefully unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Allow unit to dry thoroughly before using the appliance again.
