Engine operations
Place your GP-7 on Lionel or Lionel-compatible track. (O-27 minimum radius)
Power up your GP-7 with your transformer.
Your GP-7 is designed to operate on 7-18 volts alternating current (AC). Virtually all Lionel and Lionel-compatible alternating-current transformers
are suitable. You can power your GP-7 with direct current (DC) transformers. Be
sure to turn off the diesel horn as it may blow continuously. See Figure 1 on page 4 for the horn switch location.
Move ‘em out!
Get your GP-7 moving. Your GP-7 will usually start in forward initially. The reverse unit will sequence the locomotive through a repeating pattern of operations: forward, neutral, reverse, neutral. To sequence the reverse unit, press the direction button on your transformer, or turn the throttle off and back on again, until you are moving in the desired direction.
Adjust track voltage until your GP-7 moves at your desired speed.
