Bezugsmarkierungen “Dreiecke” in gegenüberliegende Position bringen. Zählscheibe rastet ein. Hilfsweise Scheibe geringfügig vorwärts-/rückwärts drehen.
2.6 Filmtransport, Aufnahmebereitschaft herstellen: Mit (18) entriegeln.
2.1 Remove camera back after turning the fold-down locking key (8) to the
"off" position. Insert empty film spool in the take-up chamber, be sure that the wind key engages properly.
2.2 Place fresh roll of film in the supply chamber (21), remove tape seal
completely, thread paper leader into take-up spool (push release knob (18) in the direction of the arrow if necessary) and advance with (10) the film until the marks on the backing paper (either arrow or triangles), are opposite the red reference triangle (22) in the camera housing.
2.3 Check film pressure plate for correct adjustment. For change-over from
120 to 220 film, push down and slide pressure plate as indicated by the arrow and the red/green reference marks.
2.4 Attach camera back and lock it by turning the fold-down key (8).
2.5 Rotate film counter disk (11) on top of camera (push release knob 18)
until the two reference triangles face each other and you can definitely notice the click.
2.6 Push release knob (18). Turn film transport knob (10) until it stops auto-
matically and locks in position for the first exposure. Index on film counter disk now points to frame 1, camera is ready for use. With 120 film 4 exposures, with 220 film 8 exposures will be provided. After every exposure push release knob (18) and then wind the film to the next stop.
2.7 After the exposure 4 (with 120 film) or exposure 8 (with 220 film) slide film transport release knob (18). Whilst contineously pressing the release button, wind film with the film transport knob until film counter disk (11) does not move anymore. This guarantees that the exposed film is fully spooled onto the take-up spool. Now take out the film.

3.1 Taking photos: Shutter speeds, aperture settings and focusing distance
are adjusted manually in the conventional way using the scales and levers provided. Each shutter is fitted with a depth-of-field indicator ring that facilitates optimum focusing.
3.2 Release: Before each exposure, the shutter has to be cocked manually. After releasing the shutter (9), push knob (18) and the film transport knob (10) can be turned until it locks for the next picture. The camera is ready for the next exposure.
3.3 Cable release: Shutter release either through the red body release (9) or cable release which screws into the cable release socket in the release button. For best results, use original Linhof T-lock cable release with extra long release pin (022767).
3.4 Release lock: The shutter cannot be released as long as the shutter is not cocked.
3.5 After last exposure: After the exposure 4 (with type 120 film) or exposure 8 (with type 220 film) the film transport release knob (18) is to be slided. Whilst contineously pressing the release knob (18), wind film with the film transport knob (10) until film counter disk (11) does not move anymore. This ensures the complete transport of the exposed film onto the take-up spool.
3.6 Double/multiple exposures: Double and multiple exposures can be effected by simply recocking the shutter as often as required.

tivplatine.
4. OBJEKTIVE, OBJEKTIVWECHSEL 4. LENSES AND LENS CHANGE
4.1 Interchangeable lenses: The Technorama 617 S III is a system camera with 4 interchangeable lenses XL 5,6/72, XL 5,6/90, 5,6/180 and 5,6/250 mm. All lenses in Copal shutter and focus mount on lens panel with integrated body release. For each lens a special finder is offered.
4.2 Lens change: Lens change is extremely simple: unlock 2 screws (left turn) holding the lens panel which houses the tube, lens in helical focus, release and protection. Since there is no dark slide provided, lens change should not be made with a film remaining in the camera. Re-attaching the lens: attach lens panel and tighten locking knobs (right turn).
4.3 When using a tripod: Please remember that the tripod socket is situated in the lens tube. When unlocking the knurled screws of the lens panel the camera body is no more connected with the tripod. Therefore, the com-
plete camera must be taken from the tripod when changing lenses.
4.4 Lens protector: The wide angle lenses are equipped with an integrated
lens protector. This stabilizes the position of the camera on even surfaces being an ideal support for the shock-sensitive lenses. The longer tube of the Apo-Symmar 5,6/180 does not necessitate an additional lens bracket.
4.5 Protection rings: For protecting the valuable lenses against pressure and shock of the front elements the use of the additional protection ring is recommened (see page 18).

5.1 Blendeneinstellung: Die Blende ist entsprechend der Skala im Bereich
von Blende 5,6 bis Blende 45 bzw. 64 in Drittelwerten einstellbar.
5.1 Aperture: The aperture scale covers a range from f/5,6 to f/45 or f/64 in 1/3 increments. For optimum edge to edge sharpness, the diaphragm setting of between f/16 and f/32 is recommended. Larger openings do not produce maximum sharpness. Extremely small openings, while increasing the depth-of-field, may degrade the image on account of diffraction.
5.2 Depth-of-field: The depth-of-field ring (24) between scale and shutter allows convenient depth-of-field calculation with any given lens opening. An important point to remember: Maximum sharpness is obtained at the established point of focus only, the so-called depth-of-field zone is considered as an area of acceptable, but gradually diminishing sharpness.
5.3 Close-up distances: Although a minimum distance is indicated the focusing scale extends further down. These close-up distances serve only to indicate the depth-of-field available at close range which can be obtained by stopping the lens down accordingly.
5. BLENDE UND SCHÄRFENTIEFE 5. DEPTH-OF-FIELD CONTROL
Page 14
14
022302, abgestimmt. Der Verlängerungsfaktor beim Einsatz dieses Filters beträgt ca. 4 x, also 2 Blenden. Auf das Super-Angulon XL 5,6/90 wurde das Präzisionsfilter, Code 022283, abgestimmt. Der Verlängerungsfaktor beim Einsatz dieses
Filters beträgt ca. 3 x, also 1
1
6.1 Center filter: Super-wide-angle lenses have a natural fall-off of illumination towards the corners, physically caused. In order to compensate this loss in brightness, concentric graduated grey filters have been designed for the wide-angle lenses. These filters have a transparency which increases gradually from the center to the edges. To avoid too long exposure times and with consideration of the exposure latitude of the film emulsions, the vignetting of the lenses has not been fully compensated. For maximum results and definition when using Center filter, it is necessary to stop down the lens by one to two full stops, since only then the maximum compensating effect of the Center filter can be achieved.
6.2 Additional filters: Additionally used filters should be screwed in the thread of the Center filter, since other-wise the effect of the Center filter will be changed negatively.
6.3 For the lens Super-Angulon XL 5,6/72 we recommend the Center filter, code number 022302. This Center filter requires an approximate 4 x exposure increase which is equivalent to opening the lens by 2 stops. For the lens Super-Angulon XL 5,6/90 we recommend the Center filter, code number 022283. This Center filter requires an approximate 3 x exposure
increase which is equivalent to opening the lens by 1
1
/3 or 12/3 stops.
6.4 As color negative and black-and-white films have a wider exposure latitude and allow to correct the image in the printing process, one can often do without a Center filter and still obtain a well-balanced print. In many instances, slightly darker corners even help to enhance the image and to dramatize the pictorial content of a picture.
6.5 Attention: The Center filter should not be screwed in too tightly to avoid inadvertent unscrewing ofthe front lens section when removing the filter.
6. CENTERFILTER 6. CENTER FILTER
Center filter to reduce the light fall-off at the edges.

7.1 The optical viewfinder: For each interchangeable lens an optical viewfinder is provided. It is attached to the camera using the accessory shoe on top of the camera body.
7.2 Precise framing: Precise framing of the subject is accomplished by the bright line frame and the reference cross indicating the optical axis to facilitate camera alignment. The viewfinder shows the image area with a safety margin of approximately 10%, so there will be slightly more on the negative than what is shown in the finder. For close-range photos the inner top and inner lateral line frames mark the parallax correction.
7.3 Angle of view: On account of the extremely large viewing angle, the viewfinder shows a slight amount of barrel distortion which, for technical reasons, is not fully eliminated. This distortion is apparent in the finder only and does not affect the actual image. All lenses are totally distortion-free and, naturally, all horizontals and verticals are reproduced as straight lines on film.
7.4 Spirit level: The reflected spirit level visible in the finder controls the vertical orientation of the film plane not only with the camera in the conventional horizontal position, but in the vertical mode als well. To avoid converging lines do not tilt the camera, always check the spirit level to be sure, that the camera is properly aligned.
7.5 Horizontal alignment: Horizontal alignment (lateral levelling) is controlled by the reflected reference cross which shows if the camera is tilted to the left or right side. A convenient method to control parallelism between film plane and main subject plane (front of the building, for instance) is to project an imaginary line from the camera position to the object which meets the main object plane at a 90° angle. The point where the projected line meets the object should be positioned in the center of the reference cross. This method works both with horizontal and vertical subjects.

7.6 The viewfinder can also be used separately for easy determining the
selected picture area.
Spirit level shows the orientation of the camera.
Im Sucher eingespiegelt: Objektivbrennweite, Wasserwaage, Leuchtrahmen zur Bildausschnittsbestimmung, Parallaxenausgleich im Nahbereich und Referenzkreuz zur horizontalen und vertikalen Ausrichtung.
Visible in the finder: Focal length, spirit level, bright-line frame for picture section, inner top and inner lateral line frames marking the parallax correction for close range photos, reference cross indicating the optical axis to facilitate camera alignment.

8. AUSSCHNITT-VERGRÖSSERUNGEN
8. SECTIONAL ENLARGEMENTS
8.1 The elongated 6x17 cm format with its 1:3 aspect ratio is particularly
suitable for sectional enlargements from vertical images. Architectural views without converging lines, shot from street level, can be obtained by cutting off any unwanted foreground matter in the final print. This gives the same effect as if you were using an extreme lens rise with an adjustable large format camera. Naturally, this method works also with views taken from an elevated camera position, as in this case a sectional enlargement is made only from the bottom portion of the vertical 6x17 cm image.

9.1 For protecting the valuable lenses of the Technorama 617 S III against
pressure and shock of the front elements even under hard working conditions we have developed new protection rings. The use of these rings will minimize the danger of even small deformations resulting into unwanted lateral unsharpness.

10.1 The shutter is fully synchronized from B to 1/500 sec.
10.2 The accessory shoe can be used to mount a compact flash unit. As this
accessory shoe is not equipped with a flash contact, connect flash gun with the X-sync nipple (14) on the shutter by means of a suitable flash cord.
10.3 When working with the Technorama 617 S III, the use of 2 flash units,
mounted on a suitable flash bracket, is recommended. To avoid a hot spot in the center, the flash guns should be angled outward.
