The class V169 001 – from 1968 designated as 219 001-5 by German Railways –
was another locomotive with electrical train heating that was a further development of the V160. The V169 became the prototype for diesel locomotives with
a gas turbine as an ancillary drive unit. German Railways intended to operate it
on mountain routes. The gas turbine ran on diesel fuel and was meant to provide
additional traction to handle heavy trains or when negotiating inclines.
The generator for the heating with a power takeoff was powered by the fl uid
transmission and proved its worth on the V169, being used for the later series
locomotives on the classes 218 and 210. It also demonstrated the fundamental
utility of the ancillary drive combined with a gas turbine. This drive was later
used analogously in the series locos with gas turbine on the class 210.
Class 753
On 28th April 1989 the two prototype locomotives of the diesel loco class 217 001
and 217 002 were offi cially declared as service vehicles for internal purposes, a
change in the numbers being effected to 753 001 and 753 002. Both locomotives
have already called on since 1974 for test and measuring purposes in connection
with the testing of vehicles and have acted, for example, as a braking locomotive.
The renaming thus had a purely formal character.

LILIPUT hopes that your model will give you a lot of pleasure.
1. Putting your model into operation
Carefully remove the locomotive in the blister pack from the box. Then open the blister
pack as shown in the example in Pictures 1a/1b, remove the locomotive and place it
on the rails. The direct current model is suitable for a maximum voltage of 14 volts, the
alternating current variant can either be run analogously on 16 volts or digitally. Allow the
locomotive to run backwards and forwards at about half voltage for a few minutes. The
vehicle is then ready for use.

2. Looking after your model
In order to ensure that your model functions correctly over a long period, your model should
be maintained at regular intervals.
To do this place the model, as shown in Picture 2, upside down on a soft surface but be
careful not to damage the parts inserted in the roof. Clean the wheel contacts and the
wheels using cotton wool buds soaked in spirit. Please do not turn the drive wheels by
hand in any circumstances. After cleaning, please use a drop of machine oil to lubricate the
bearing points shown in Picture 2.
Use commercially available oils and use a fine cannula or a needle.

Caution: do not use cooking oil or hand cream. It is advisable to carry out maintenance
work after approximately 30 - 40 hours of operation.
To oil the gears refer to Point 7.

4. Front light system
The replica of this diesel locomotive can be universally employed, for scheduled or
shunting services as well as in push-pull operation. As a locomotive for passenger or goods
carriages. A different front and rear light are required depending on use.
These differing possibilities can be set with the aid of the installed multiswitch MS (Picture 3)
depending on operation type.
Please pay attention to the circuit diagram for the switch in Picture 4. You model
comes with the light change white / red in both directions. To change this fi rst follow the
description in Point 3 or alternatively please remove unclip the fan L (Picture 3) from the
diesel roof. You now have free access to the microswitch.

5. Installation of a DCC Decoder
First follow the description in Point 3.
The model of this diesel locomotive possesses a 21-pin decoder port. Remove the jumper
B (Picture 5) and attach the digital decoder.
Please exactly follow the installation instructions of the decoder manufacturer. For questions
regarding function and installation, please contact the decoder supplier or manufacturer.

6. Locomotive sound
The locomotive already comes completely prepared for locomotive sound operation.
Loosen the four screws S2 in Picture 5 and carefully remove the circuit board. It is advisable to separate a part of the lines and plugs from the board. Now screw the sound capsule
LH by loosening the two screws S3 and clicking in place a loudspeaker - e.g. from the
company ESU - with d = 20 mm with the membrane facing outwards.
The sound decoder can be inserted vertically instead of the jumper plug B or another decoder in the 21-pole connector. Two connection pins SPK (Picture 5) have been mounted on
the circuit board to connect the loudspeaker.
It is essential that you follow the instructions of the decoder and the loudspeaker manufacturer.

7. Oiling the gears
Loosen the four screws S2 in Picture 5 and carefully remove the circuit board. It is
advisable to separate a part of the lines and plugs from the board. Then also loosen the
four screws S4 in Picture 6 and remove the two weights.
The gears G are now accessible for lubricating. Also use standard oils and a fi ne cannula.
Afterwards push the locomotive up and down a little. This distributes the oil on the gear
components located further inside the model. Repeat this procedure as required. It is
advisable to carry out maintenance work after approximately 100 hours of operation.
8. Removing the motor
First follow the description in Point 7. After removing the two weights, remove the motor
cowling by loosening the four screws S5. The motor can now be simply lifted out. To do this
the slots of the cardan shells – as shown in Picture 6 – must be pointing upwards.

Your model as an AC variant
If you have decided on a LILIPUT model for the central rail alternating current system,
please observe the following:
This model has a digital decoder installed (ESU Lokpilot) which can be used to power your
vehicle either on an analogue basis (16 volt AC) or digitally. Please consult the instruction
sheet supplied by ESU for details on how the decoder works. For power pick up from the
central rail, the slider has to be clipped on to the bogey with the aid of a holder R as shown
in Picture 7. To change the slider, please slightly press apart the retaining arms L of the
holder R using a small screwdriver. This enables the retaining seat of the central slider to be
removed from the holder R.
