You have just acquired an advanced timepiece
born from a partnership between
La Manufacture L’Épée 1839 and MB&F.
Octopod has been developed with passion
and care by L’Epée 1839’s Master Watchmakers
in Delémont - Switzerland.
CONGRATULATIONS

6
It is not recommended to hold Octopod only by one leg –
this can lead to damage.
Fingerprints will also damage the coating so always wear
gloves when manipulating the clock or wipe out the ngerprint. Use only a soft and dry cloth to clean the clock. Dust
and particles contained in the cloth could scratch parts. Do
not use any kind of cleaning products to wipe the clock.
It is recommended to keep the clock distant from any source
of heat or vibrations. To preserve the longevity and functionality of Octopod, do not permanently expose the clock to
direct sunlight, a blower, or in a humid or dusty place.
Our clocks are developed to ensure optimal accuracy and
reliability. It is well accepted for a ne mechanical clock to
have a few seconds’ variation per day and our clocks are
set so as not to delay. However if you should notice a bigger variation, please contact an authorized dealer who will
advise you, or a L’Épée 1839 technical support center
which will proceed with the necessary adjustment.
As for all Horological pieces of art, it is recommended to
periodically service your clock. A mechanical masterpiece
requires ne oils for the lubrication of the movement.
These oils deteriorate over the years. We therefore advise
having the movement serviced every 5 years. Be aware that
the optimal period between servicing times can vary
depending on the surrounding environmental conditions.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE

A KINETIC SCULPTURE
The head
Octopod has a completely transparent spherical ‘head’
which rotates 360°, both vertically and horizontally. The
gimbal ensures that no matter what angle or height it sits,
it is easy to rotate the glass bubble so that the time display inside is at the ideal plane for maximum legibility.
Please rotate the sphere slowly in order to avoid damages
to the glass.

8
The legs
Octopod stands or crouches on at or uneven surfaces
thanks to its eight articulated legs. Each leg can be individually adjusted to varying heights, enabling Octopod to rest
securely on the most uneven of surfaces.
Two locked legs’ positions can be set. To change the position, push and hold the button at the back of the upper leg
and release to lock in the new position. Between these two
positions, the movement is free.
At least four legs need to be locked to ensure an optimal
stability of Octopod.

Reading the time
The hours and minutes are indicated by the two hands.
The escapement which regulates the clock’s precision, is
located on its minute hand.

Place the clock upright on a at surface and turn the sphere
sideways. Insert the key in Point A on the diagram. Turn the
key anti-clockwise ONLY in order to set the time.

Place the clock upright on a at surface and turn carefully
the sphere sideways. Insert the key in Point B on the diagram. Wind the movement with anti-clockwise and straightforward rotations to not break the movement nor the glass.
The movement should be fully wound every 8 days. During
the process, you will see the movement’s wheels moving,
allowing the barrel to be wound up. Be sure to wind the
spring completely. Resistance will increase as you approach
the full winding point, but continue to wind Octopod until
you feel you have approached the breaking point (sign that
the movement is fully wound). However, be very careful to
stop before and do not force the mechanism by trying to
go further than the breaking point.
