PRECAUTIONS
Safety
The laser beam used in the CD player
section could damage your eyes so you should never attempt to take the cabinet apart. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only. If any solid object or liquid gets into
the player, unplug it, and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it again.
Power Sources
For battery operation, use 8 X LR20
(size D) batteries (not included). We recommend alkaline batteries for longer life. When the batteries will not be used
for several weeks or more, they should be removed to avoid damage that could be caused by battery leakage or corrosion.
Location
Do not leave the player near a heat
source in direct sunlight or where it might be exposed to excessive dust or mechanical shocks.
Do not place the player on a sloping
or unstable surface.
Do not place anything within one inch
of the back of the cabinet. The ventilation holes must not be covered for the player to operate properly and to prolong the life of its components.
If the player is left in a car parked in
the sun, be sure to put it somewhere in the car where it will not be in direct sunlight.
Powerful magnets are used in the
speakers so personal credit cards using magnetic coding and springwound watches should be kept away from the player to prevent possible damage from the magnets.
Operation
If the player is moved directly from a
cold to a warm location or is placed in a very damp room, moisture may condense on the lens in the CD player section. Should this occur, the player will not operate properly. In this case, remove the CD and wait about an hour for the moisture to evaporate. If the player has not been used for a long time, put it in playback mode to warm up for a few minutes before inserting a CD.
This CD player is designed to be
played on a stable, vibration-free surface. If it is knocked while a CD is playing, the CD will stop or skip for a few seconds. This is normal for this type of player.
19
IB-CD511(TA)-SW-E-091002
PRECAUTIONS (continued)
CDs
Before playing, clean the CD with a
cleaning cloth. Wipe the CD from the centre out.
Do not use solvents such as benzene,
thinner, commercially available cleaners or anti-static spray intended for vinyl LPs.
Do not expose CDs to direct sunlight
or heat sources such as hot air ducts, or leave them in a car parked in direct sunlight as the temperature inside the car could get extremely hot and cause damage to the CDs.
Do not attach paper or stickers to CDs
or scratch them.
After playing, CDs should be stored in
their cases. If there is a scratch, dirt or fingerprints on the CD, tracking errors or skipping may occur.
Cassettes
Break off the cassette tab from Side
A or B to prevent accidental recording.
Side A
Tab for side B
To record on a tape with its tab broken
off, cover the respective tab hole for Side A or B with adhesive tape.
Use of a cassette with more than 90
minutes, such as C-120 (120 minutes), is not recommended. The extreme thinness of this tape may damage this set.
To reduce the chance of tapes
jamming or tangling, check that there is no tape slack visible through the window in the centre of the cassette. Any tape slack should be taken up with a pencil before inserting the cassette into the player.
Tab for side A

IB-CD511(TA)-SW-E-091002
MAINTENANCE Cleaning the Lens
If the lens is dirty, skipping may occur while the CD is playing. Clean with a commercially available lens cleaner and blower.
Cleaning the Tape Heads
Wipe the heads, the pinch roller and the capstan with a cleaning swab slightly moistened with cleaning fluid or alcohol after every 10 hours of operation for optimum playback and recording quality. After cleaning, wait until the areas cleaned are completely dry before inserting a tape.
CAPSTANCOTTON SWAB
Storage Cassette Tapes
1. Never place tapes near a magnetic field such as a TV, or speaker. Magnetic fields may reduce tape sensitivity or even erase recording.
2. Do not store tapes for any length of time in hot, damp or dusty locations.
Cleaning the Cabinet
Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzene.

Remedy
Connect the AC power cord securely to a wall outlet.
Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly and
are not worn out.
Make sure the FUNCTION switch is in the correct
position. Adjust the volume.
Unplug the headphones when listening
through the speakers.
You may be using battery power. The VFD display

about an hour to get rid of moisture condensation. Make sure the FUNCTION switch is in the CD position.
Clean the CD or replace it if it is badly damaged.
Place the player in a location free from vibrations.
Check that the batteries are not worn out.
It is normal since the radio uses less power than
the CD player.
Replace all the batteries with new ones if
they are low, move the player close to a window for better MW reception or rotate it
for better FM reception.
Make sure the safety tab on the cassette
is in place (see page 20). Make sure the FUNCTION switch is in the
TAPE position.
Clean the erasing head (see page 21).
Replace all the batteries with new ones if they are
