Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions. Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor aCRU,donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthepartuntiltheinstructionsdirectyou toinstallthepart.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomputer,takethefollowingprecautions toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthe parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
