Whenyourcomputeristurnedonorthebatteryischarging,thebase,thepalm rest,andsomeotherpartsmaybecomehot.Thetemperaturetheyreach dependsontheamountofsystemactivityandthelevelofchargeinthebattery.

Considerationsforattachinganexternalmonitor

Handingyourcomputerovertosomeoneelsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperating systemsandprogramsoftware,mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Youareadvisedtocheckthe termsandconditionsofthoselicenseagreements.

•Rescuelesfromyourharddiskdriveorfromabackup TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocatelesonyourharddiskdriveandtransfer

themtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceoradisc.Thissolutionis availableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourlesorifchangesweremadetothelessinceyourlastbackup operation.YoualsocanrescueindividuallesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuplocatedonyourlocal harddiskdrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.

•RestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup IfyouhavebackedupyourharddiskdriveusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestorethe

harddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperating system.

•Restoreyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultsettings TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourharddiskdrive

tothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionsonyourharddiskdrive,youhavetheoption torestorethefactorydefaultsettingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitionsintact.Becausethe RescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcan restorethefactorydefaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.

Attention:IfyourestoretheharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestoretheharddisk drivetothefactorydefaultsettings,alllesontheprimaryharddiskdrivepartition(usuallydriveC:)willbe deletedintherecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantles.Ifyouareunabletostartthe Windowsoperatingsystem,youcanusetherescuelesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceto copylesfromyourharddiskdrivetoothermedia.

1.Turnoffthecomputer,thendisconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.

2.Closethecomputerdisplay,andturnitover.

3.Removethebattery.See“Replacingthebattery”onpage72.

4.Loosenthetwoscrewsonthememoryslotcover,andthenremovethecover.

5.Ifamemorymodulealreadyisinstalledinthememoryslot,pressoutonthelatchesonbothedgesof thesocketatthesametime.Thenremovethememorymoduleandsaveitforfutureuse.
