Alwaysroutepowercordssothattheywillnotbewalkedon,trippedover,orpinchedbyobjects.
Protectpowercordsandpoweradaptersfromliquids.Forinstance,donotleaveyourpowercord orpoweradapternearsinks,tubs,toilets,oronfloorsthatarecleanedwithliquidcleansers. Extensioncordsandrelateddevices

Ensurethatextensioncords,surgeprotectors,uninterruptiblepowersupplies,andpowerstripsthatyouuse areratedtohandletheelectricalrequirementsoftheproduct.Neveroverloadthesedevices.Ifpowerstrips areused,theloadshouldnotexceedthepowerstripinputrating.Consultanelectricianformoreinformation ifyouhavequestionsaboutpowerloads,powerrequirements,andinputratings.

Plugsandoutlets

DANGER
Ifareceptacle(poweroutlet)thatyouintendtousewithyourcomputerequipmentappearstobe damagedorcorroded,donotusetheoutletuntilitisreplacedbyaqualifiedelectrician.
Donotbendormodifytheplug.Iftheplugisdamaged,contactthemanufacturertoobtain areplacement.
Donotshareanelectricaloutletwithotherhomeorcommercialappliancesthatdrawlargeamounts ofelectricity;otherwise,unstablevoltagemightdamageyourcomputer,data,orattacheddevices.

Ifyouspillsomethingonyourcomputer:

ThinkPadpointingdeviceproblems
Problem:Thepointerdriftswhenthecomputeristurnedonorafteritresumesnormaloperation. Solution:ThepointermightdriftwhenyouarenotusingtheTrackPointpointingdeviceduringnormal
operation.ThisisanormalcharacteristicoftheTrackPointpointingdeviceandisnotadefect.Pointer driftingmightoccurforseveralsecondsunderthefollowingconditions:
–Whenthecomputeristurnedon –Whenthecomputerresumesnormaloperation –WhentheTrackPointpointingdeviceiskeptpressedforalongtime –Whenthetemperaturechanges
Problem:TheTrackPointpointingdeviceortrackpaddoesnotwork. Solution:EnsurethattheTrackPointpointingdeviceortrackpadisenabledintheThinkPadpointing
devicesettingwindow.
Keyboardproblems
Problem:Allorsomekeysonthekeyboarddonotwork. Solution:Ifanexternalnumerickeypadisconnected:
1.Turnoffthecomputer.
2.Removetheexternalnumerickeypad.
3.Turnonthecomputerandtryusingthekeyboardagain.
Ifthekeyboardproblemisresolved,carefullyreconnecttheexternalnumerickeypadandtheexternal keyboard.Makesurethatyouhaveseatedtheconnectorscorrectly.
Iftheproblempersists,makesurethatthecorrectdevicedriverisinstalledbydoingthefollowing:
1.OpenControlPanel.ChangetheviewofControlPanelfromCategorytoLargeiconsorSmallicons.
2.ClickKeyboard.
3.SelecttheHardwaretab.IntheDevicePropertiespane,makesurethatyouseethismessage:
DeviceStatus:Thisdeviceisworkingproperly.
Ifkeysonthekeyboardstilldonotwork,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Anumberisdisplayedwhenyoutypealetter. Solution:Thenumericlockfunctionison.Todisableit,pressFn+NumLock.
Problem:Allorsomekeysontheexternalnumerickeypaddonotwork.
Solution:Makesurethattheexternalnumerickeypadiscorrectlyconnectedtothecomputer.
