Extensioncordsandrelateddevices

Ensurethatextensioncords,surgeprotectors,uninterruptiblepowersupplies,andpowerstripsthatyouuse areratedtohandletheelectricalrequirementsoftheproduct.Neveroverloadthesedevices.Ifpowerstrips areused,theloadshouldnotexceedthepowerstripinputrating.Consultanelectricianformoreinformation ifyouhavequestionsaboutpowerloads,powerrequirements,andinputratings.

Plugsandoutlets

Ifareceptacle(poweroutlet)thatyouintendtousewithyourcomputerequipmentappearstobe damagedorcorroded,donotusetheoutletuntilitisreplacedbyaqualifiedelectrician.
Donotbendormodifytheplug.Iftheplugisdamaged,contactthemanufacturertoobtain areplacement.

Byswitchingbetweenlocationprofilesasyoumoveyourcomputerfromplace toplace,youcanquicklyandeasilyconnecttoanetworkwithnoneedto manuallyreconfigureyoursettingsandrestartthecomputereachtime.

Someofthedatastoredontheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivemightbesensitive.Handing yourcomputerovertosomeoneelsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperatingsystemsand applicationsoftware,mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Besuretodeletedatastoredontheharddisk drive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivebeforeyoudisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.
Youcanusethefollowingmethodstodeletedatafromtheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrive:
•MovethedatatotheRecycleBin,andthenemptytheRecycleBin.
•Deletethedata.
•Formatyourharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•UsetherecoveryprogramprovidedbyLenovotobringtheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-state drivebacktothefactorydefaultsettings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethefilelocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The dataisstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseof specialsoftwarefordatarecovery.Thereisariskthatpeopleofbadfaithmightreadandmisusethecritical dataonharddiskdrives,hybriddrives,orsolid-statedrivesforunexpectedpurposes.
Topreventleakageofdata,itisimportantthatyoudeleteallthedatafromtheharddiskdriveorhybriddrive whenyoudisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.Youcandestroythedataphysicallybysmashingthe harddiskdriveorhybriddrivewithahammer,ormagneticallybymeansofstrongmagneticpower,thus makingthedataunreadable.Butitisrecommendedthatyouusethesoftware(payware)orservice(pay service)developedforthatpurpose.Theprocessmighttakeseveralhours.

Makingsuredevicedriversarecurrent

Devicedriversareprogramsthatcontaininstructionsfortheoperatingsystemabouthowtooperateor “drive”acertainpieceofhardware.Eachhardwarecomponentonyourcomputerhasitsownspecificdriver. Ifyouaddanewcomponent,theoperatingsystemneedstobeinstructedonhowtooperatethatpiece ofhardware.Afteryouinstallthedriver,theoperatingsystemcanrecognizethehardwarecomponent andunderstandhowtouseit.
Note:Becausedriversareprograms,likeanyotherfileonyourcomputer,theyaresusceptibletocorruption andmightnotperformcorrectlyifcorruptionoccurs.

Althoughyourcomputerisdesignedtofunctionreliablyinnormalworkenvironments,youneedtouse commonsenseinhandlingit.Byfollowingtheimportanttipsinthistopic,youwillgetthemostuseand enjoymentoutofyourcomputer.
Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
•Storepackingmaterialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic bags.
•Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers (morethan13cmor5inches).
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpurifiers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative ions,itmightbecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemightbedischargedthroughyourhands whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices connectedtoit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofadischargefrom yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,canincreasetheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputer closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomputertotheairfromanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.

Spillsonthekeyboard

Withamobilecomputer,thereareincreasedchancesofspillingliquidsonthekeyboard.Becausemost liquidsconductelectricity,liquidspilledonthekeyboardcouldcreatenumerousshortcircuits,potentially causingirreparabledamagetoyourcomputer.
Ifyouspillsomethingonyourcomputer:
Attention:Besurethatnoliquidcreatesashortcircuitbetweenyouandtheacpoweradapter(ifinuse).
