ThischapterprovidesinformationaboutinstallingthewirelessWANadapter,andinstructionsonhowto congurethewirelessWANadapteronthefollowingoperatingsystems:

Beforeyoubegin

BeforeinstallingthewirelessWANadapter,carefullyreadthefollowinginformation.

Attention:ThewirelessWANadapterisshippedwithanantistaticbag.Whenhandling,takethefollowing precautionstopreventstaticelectricityfromdamagingtheelectronicparts:

•DonotopentheantistaticbaguntilyouarereadytoinstallthewirelessWANadapterintothePCIExpress M.2cardslotinyourcomputer.

•BeforeremovingthewirelessWANadapterfromtheantistaticbag,drainstaticelectricityfromthebag andfromyourbodybytouchingthebagtoametaltableoragroundedmetalobject.

InstallingthewirelessWANadapter

WheninstallingorreplacingthewirelessWANadapter,besuretofollowtheprecautionsbelow.

DANGER

Duringelectricalstorms,donotconnectthecabletoordisconnectitfromthetelephoneoutlet onthewall.

DANGER

Electriccurrentfrompower,telephone,andcommunicationcablesishazardous.Toavoidshock hazard,disconnectthecablesbeforeopeningthecoverofthePCIExpressM.2cardslot.

ToinstallthewirelessWANadapter,dothefollowing:

1.Turnoffthecomputer.

2.InstallthewirelessWANadapterfollowingthestep-by-stepinstructionsonthesetupposters.

Note:IfyourServiceProviderrequiresaSIMcard,installtheSIMcardprovidedintheoptionpackage followingtheinstructionsintheuserguideforyourThinkPadcomputer.

Attention:IfyouareusingaVerizonSIMcard,usetheLenovo programtoactivatethecardin24hoursafterinstallingthecardinyourThinkPadcomputer.Otherwise theVerizonSIMcardwillbecomeinvalid.ForinstructionsonhowtodownloadandinstalltheLMBA program,see“ConguringthewirelessWANadapteronWindowsoperatingsystems”onpage4

ConguringthewirelessWANadapteronWindowsoperatingsystems

TocongurethewirelessWANadapterontheWindows7orWindows8operatingsystem,dothefollowing:

FortheWindows7operatingsystem:

1.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriverforthewirelessWANadapterandLMBAbydoingoneofthe following:

•Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support/wireless,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

•StarttheThinkVantage

a.ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools.

b.Double-clickUpdateandDrivers.Then,followingtheinstructionsonthescreen.

2.StarttheLMBAprogramtoactivatethewirelessWANadapter.Anaccountwithamobilebroadband ServiceProviderisrequired.

3.StarttheThinkVantageAccessConnections™programtoconrmyourwirelessconnectionortoassist inresolvinganyconnectionproblems.Fordetailedcongurationinstructions,refertotheAccess Connectionshelpinformationsystem.

Notes:T oopentheAccessConnectionshelpinformationsystem,dothefollowing:

a.ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageT ools.

b.Double-clickInternetConnections.TheAccessConnectionswindowopens.

c.Clickthequestionmark(?),andthenclickAccessConnectionsHelp.

SystemUpdateprogrambydoingthefollowing:

FortheWindows8operatingsystem:

1.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriverforthewirelessWANadapterandtheLenovoMobileAccess (LMA)programbydoingoneofthefollowing:

•Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support/wireless,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

•UsetheSystemUpdateprogrambydoingthefollowing:

a.Right-clickanywhereontheStartscreen,andthenclickAllappsonthebottombar.TheApps

menuisdisplayed.

b.ClickSystemUpdate,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

2.StarttheLMAprogramtoactivatethewirelessWANadapter.Anaccountwithamobilebroadband ServiceProviderisrequired.

Note:IfthereisnoLMAprograminstalledonthecomputer,searchtheLMAprogramintheWindows Storeandinstallitbeforeyoubegin.

3.ClickLenovoMobileAccessfromtheStartscreen,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

Chapter3.Troubleshooting

IfyouexperiencethefollowingproblemwiththewirelessWANadapter,trythesolutionprovidedtosolve theproblem.

Problem:IhavecorrectlyinstalledthewirelessWANadapteronmycomputer,butthecomputerfailsto recognizethewirelessWANadapter.

Solution:ResettheUniedExtensibleFirmwareInterface(UEFI)BasicInput/OutputSystem(BIOS) congurationofyourcomputertothedefaultsettingsbydoingthefollowing:

1.Turnonthecomputer.

2.WhenyouseetheThinkPadlogoscreen,pressF1toentertheBIOS.

3.PressF9,andthenselectYestoloadthedefaultconguration.

4.PressF10tosavecongurationchangesandexit.TheSetupConrmationwindowopens.

5.SelectY esintheSetupConrmationwindow.Thecomputerrestarts.

Note:Afterthecomputerrestarts,theBIOSchangesareautomaticallysaved.Thereisnoneedtoreset theBIOScongurationagainthenexttimeyoustartyourcomputer.
