Whenyounishworkingwithyourcomputer,youcanputitintosleepstateor
shutitdown.
Puttingyourcomputerintosleepstate
Ifyouwillbeawayfromyourcomputerforonlyashorttime,putthecomputer
intosleepstate.Whenthecomputerisinsleepstate,youcanquicklywakeitto
resumeuse,andbypassthestartupprocess.
Toputthecomputerintosleepstate,doeitherofthefollowing:
•Click
•PressFn+F1.
andselectSleepfromtheStartmenu.
Note:Waituntilthepowerindicatorlightstartsblinking(indicatingthatthe
computerisinsleepstate)beforeyoumoveyourcomputer.Movingyour
computerwhiletheharddiskisspinningcandamagetheharddisk,causing
lossofdata.
Towakethecomputer,doeitherofthefollowing:

Checkingbatterystatus
Youcandeterminethepercentageofbatterypowerremainingbycheckingthe
batteryiconinthenoticationarea.
Notes:Aseachcomputeruserhasdifferenthabitsandneeds,itisdifcultto
predicthowlongabatterychargewilllast.Therearetwomainfactors:
•Theamountofenergystoredinthebatterywhenyoucommencework.
•Thewayyouuseyourcomputer:forexample,howoftenyouaccessthehard
diskdriveandhowbrightyoumakethecomputerdisplay.
Chargingthebattery
Whenyoundthatthebatterypowerislow,youneedtochargethebatteryor
replaceitwithafullychargedone.
Youneedtochargethebatteryinanyofthefollowingsituations:
•Whenyoupurchaseanewbattery
•Ifthebatterystatusindicatorstartsblinking
•Ifthebatteryhasnotbeenusedforalongtime
Notes:
•Y ouareadvisedtoinsertthebatterypackwhenusingyourcomputerto
preventsmallparticlesfromenteringtheinsideofyourcomputer.
•T oincreasethelifeofthebatterypack,thecomputerdoesnotstartrecharging
thebatteryimmediatelyafteritdropsfromfullycharged.
•Chargethebatteryatatemperaturebetween50°Fand86°F(10°C-30°C).
•Fullchargeordischargeisnotrequired.
Removingthebatterypack
Ifyouarenotgoingtousethecomputerforanextendedperiodoftime,orifyou
needtosendyourcomputertoLenovoforservice,etc.removethebatterypack
fromthecomputer.Beforeremovingthebatterypack,makesurethecomputer
hasbeenshutdown.

Iftherechargeablebatterypackisreplacedwithanincorrecttype,theremaybe
dangerofanexplosion.Thebatterypackcontainsasmallamountofharmful
substances.Toavoidpossibleinjuryanddetrimenttotheenvironment,pay
attentiontothefollowingpoints:
•ReplaceonlywithabatteryofthetyperecommendedbyLenovo.
•Keepthebatterypackawayfromre.
•Donotexposethebatterypacktowaterorrain.

Youcanincreasethestoragecapacityofyourcomputerbyreplacingtheharddisk
drivewithoneofgreatercapacity.Y oucanpurchaseanewharddiskdrivefrom
yourresellerorLenovomarketingrepresentative.
Notes:
•Replacetheharddiskdriveonlyifyouupgradeitorhaveitrepaired.The
connectorsandbayoftheharddiskdrivewerenotdesignedforfrequent
changes,ordriveswapping.
•Thepreinstalledsoftwaresarenotincludedonanoptionalharddiskdrive.
Handlingaharddiskdrive
•Donotdropthedriveorsubjectittophysicalshocks.Putthedriveona
material,suchassoftcloth,thatabsorbsthephysicalshock.
