The World of TAG™
With every touch of the
TAG Reader, words talk, pictures
sing and stories live out loud!
The TAG Reading System engages children’s senses to make reading
a rich, fulfi lling experience. It allows children to learn at their own pace,
building confi dence. Well-loved characters and engaging stories
inspire children to read and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Activity Storybooks, Kid Classics
and games
The TAG Reading System features two types of books and a line of games and activities, all sold separately. Activity Storybooks combine fun stories with learning activities created to help your child build vocabulary, decode words and learn other
core reading skills. Kid Classics are stories you know and love, brought to life with
the TAG Reader. Because reading happens beyond books, the TAG Reading System
offers games like activity cards and a Super Speller board.

Installing the LEAPFROG® Connect Application*
The LEAPFROG Connect Application on the included CD allows you to download audio for the entire TAG™ book and game library, see the rewards your child has earned for playing with the TAG Reader and connect to your child’s unique LEAPFROG Learning Path.
1. Use the included CD to install the application on your computer.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation (NOTE: you will need an Internet connection for the installation to work).
3. After you’ve installed the LEAPFROG Connect Application, you will be directed through some setup screens that require creating a LEAPFROG account. A LEAPFROG account is not required to use the application. However, this account allows LEAPFROG to create a customized LEAPFROG Learning Path for your child, providing you with detailed play data and insights into what your child is learning. The LEAPFROG account and setup is also necessary in order to access TAG rewards.
*If you already have the LEAPFROG Connect Application installed for another device, you will still need to insert the included CD to get your TAG Reader software.
Connecting Your TAG Reader
Once you have installed the LEAPFROG Connect Application, connect the TAG Reader to the computer with the USB cable that was provided with your device. The Reader will automatically turn on and remain powered on for fi ve minutes. (If the green light is glowing, it is on.)
After fi ve minutes of inactivity, the TAG Reader will turn off to conserve battery power. If you want to perform an action that requires the Reader to be connected, you must turn it back on again, or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
Select a Player Profi le to Begin
Once you have created your child’s TAG player profi le, each time you open the LEAPFROG Connect Application you will see that player profi le listed on the Home page.
Click the button showing the player profi le that you want to use to enter the TAG view. If you have more than one TAG player profi le, or player profi les for other devices (e.g., DIDJ™, LEAPSTER®2 or CRAMMER™ devices) you may need to use the scroll bar to the right of the player profi les to fi nd the one you want to explore.
Create a Player Profi le
The fi rst time you connect a TAG Reader to your computer, the LEAPFROG Connect Application will ask you to create a TAG player profi le for that device. Think of this as a nickname for the TAG Reader.
Each TAG Reader must have a unique player profi le. Type a player profi le name in the fi eld and click the OK button. You can use any combination of letters, numbers, dashes or spaces when creating a TAG player profi le.
6
7
Switch Player Profi les
To switch to a different player profi le, click the Home button at the top of the LEAPFROG® Connect Application window. From the Home page you can select another player profi le and enter that device view. You can also switch player profi les by connecting a second device. A message will appear asking if you would like to switch to the player profi le associated with that device.
Note: You can distinguish which player profi le is in use by looking at the greeting in the title bar of the LEAPFROG Connect Application window. There will be a message that reads: Welcome [player profi le]
Change a Player Profi le Name
In the future, you may want to change the name of your child’s TAG™ player profi le. To do this, click the Settings button at the top of the LEAPFROG Connect Application window and select the TAG tab. You must be signed in using the original TAG player profi le to perform this function, however, your TAG Reader does not need to be connected to your computer.
Entering the TAG View in the Connect Application
After selecting a player profi le and entering the TAG view, you will see four tabs on the left side of the application window: TAG Home, Audio Downloads, On My TAG, and Rewards. Clicking one of these tabs will open the associated page in the area to the right. Some of the tabs require an Internet connection and/or require that the TAG Reader be connected, and others do not.
TAG Home. This page is always accessible; however, for rewards totals to be
updated and visible, an Internet connection is required and the TAG Reader must be connected.
Audio Downloads. An Internet connection is required to access this page.
On My TAG. You can always see a list of fi les that are stored in your library (on your
computer); however, the TAG Reader must be connected to your computer to save fi les to the device.
Rewards. An Internet connection and Adobe Flash Player 8.0 or later are required to
enter the Rewards page, and a LEAPFROG account must be set up so your child can access earned rewards.
TAG Home Page
The TAG Home page welcomes you to your child’s TAG player profi le, supplies a few quick links to the most commonly-used areas within the TAG view, and shows a total rewards count. You can return to this screen at any time by clicking the TAG Home tab on the left side of the screen.
Multiple TAG Readers
Each TAG Reader is assigned to one child and has a unique TAG player profi le name. However, the LEAPFROG Connect Application supports multiple TAG player profi les. This means that many TAG Readers can be managed using one LEAPFROG Connect Application. You will see all of the TAG player profi les listed on the Home page.
It is recommended that you connect only one TAG Reader to your computer at a time. If you connect a second device while the fi rst Reader is connected, the second TAG Reader might not be recognized. If this is the case, you will need to turn the second Reader off and then on again, or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable for it to be recognized.
