Introduction and Important Notes about Safe Operation
Before using the Leaf AFi digital camera system, you must read this guide and
understand it.
When using the camera system, you must follow all of the safety precautions and
recommended procedures. This guide must be accessible to anyone who operates
the camera system.
Your failure to read, understand, and follow the information in this guide may result
in the incorrect operation of this product and could create a dangerous situation.
This could result in serious injury as well as damage to the equipment.
The following symbols are used in this section:
Advice for the Prevention of Injuries
The Leaf AFi digital camera system is not waterproof and is not suitable for
underwater photography. Avoid operating the camera system around water.
If the camera system has come into contact with water, disconnect the power
supply and/or remove the battery to prevent the danger of an electrical shock.
Do not use the Leaf AFi digital camera system. Contact Leaf Customer Support
for advice.
If you experience any abnormal behavior in the Leaf AFi digital camera system,
for example smoke, noise, or smell, immediately stop using the camera system.
Disconnect the power supply and/or remove the battery. Contact Leaf Customer
Support for advice.
WARNING: Indicates a hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in death

Caring for the Leaf AFi Digital Camera System
The Leaf AFi digital camera system is a sensitive, high-precision optical instrument.
Handle your camera system with care and in compliance with the care instructions
provided here.
When using the camera system, follow the guidelines outlined in this section.
Temperature and Humidity
Do not expose the Leaf AFi digital camera system to extreme temperature
conditions, below 0°C/32°F or above 40°C/104°F.
Do not expose the Leaf AFi digital camera system to extreme humidity. Operate
the Leaf AFi digital camera system only when the relative humidity is between
15% to 85%.
High temperatures and extreme humidity can lead to damage. Do not store the
Leaf AFi digital camera system in high temperature, humid, or dusty conditions.
Do not leave the camera system in a car where the temperatures can get very high.
Exposure to Water
The Leaf AFi digital camera system is not waterproof and is not suitable for underwater
photography. Avoid operating the camera system around water.
If there is water on the camera system, gently wipe it away with a dry, soft, woodfree tissue.
If the camera system has been exposed to saline air, wipe the casing with
a lightly-moistened tissue.
Condensation can impair the camera system operation, and can lead to irreparable
damage. In order to avoid condensation, do not expose the camera system to rapidly
changing environment temperatures. Store the camera system in a sealed
plastic bag.
If your camera system has been exposed to condensation, remove the lens, digital
camera back, and battery from the camera body. Do not use the camera system until
the condensation has completely evaporated.
Exposure to Magnetic Fields
Avoid magnetic fields. Do not use the Leaf AFi digital camera system near devices
that produce a high electro-magnetic field. Strong magnetic fields can damage the
camera functions or destroy recorded data.
CAUTION: With the exception of the removal of the digital camera back and lenses,
never open or disassemble the Leaf AFi digital camera system parts, in particular the
protective infrared (IR) filter glass. Any arbitrary opening of the Leaf AFi digital camera
system casing nullifies the warranty. No liability will be assumed for personal injury
or equipment damage resulting from opening the casing.
CAUTION: The Leaf AFi digital camera system contains a magnet. Be advised that
magnetic fields may cause damage to watches, the magnetic strips of cards, and so on.

Keeping the Leaf AFi Digital Camera System Clean
Avoid contact with sand, dust, and toxic gas.
Avoid any agitation or soiling of the optical surfaces.
To avoid soiling or damage to the focusing screen, shut the waist-level finder when
not in use.
To clean the camera, use a soft and dry, or slightly moistened, piece of cloth. Do not
use cleaning agents containing organic solvents, benzyl, or diluting agents.
General Advice for Handling
If extension tubes are used with the Leaf AFi digital camera system, always
remove the tube from the camera body before releasing the tube from the lens.
Do not establish or release the connection between the tube and the lens while
the tube is attached to the camera body.
To avoid scratches or other damage, use the lens cap when the lens is not in use.
Do not leave the camera system in the sun.
Do not store the camera system with preserving agents or chemicals.
Do not store the camera system near heat sources. Storing the system near heat
sources can cause the cables or instruments to become deformed or damaged.
Spare Parts and Accessories
Use only the spare parts and accessories that are included in the Leaf AFi digital
camera system, or that are recommended by Leaf for use with the camera
system. No liability will be assumed for injuries or damages caused by the use
of non-authorized parts. Please contact your dealer for questions regarding
spare parts and accessories.
When using the camera system with parts that are not included, such as a flash
device, please observe the safety advice supplied with these components.
No liability will be assumed for injuries or damages caused by the non-observance
of safety information provided with third-party parts.
CAUTION: Do not touch the internal parts of the Leaf AFi digital camera system while
the lens and/or digital camera back are removed.
CAUTION: Leaving the Leaf AFi digital camera system in the sun without the lens cap
can cause a fire.
CAUTION: Damaged equipment can cause a fire or electrical shock.

Battery Label Caution Statement
The battery label caution statement is located on each battery.
Use the battery with the Leaf AFi digital camera system only. The battery should not
be used with other devices.
Battery Charger Safety Information
• Do not use this charger for charging battery packs other than a lithium
ion battery pack for an AFi camera system. A fire or explosion may result.
• Never disassemble or modify the charger in any way.
• Keep the charger free from moisture and water.
• Do not drop your charger, or give it a strong shock or vibration.
• Never apply excessive force when connecting or disconnecting the battery.
• Avoid direct sunlight or high temperatures (e.g. inside a car with closed
windows.) This may cause deformation, discoloration and malfunction.
• Do not expose to excessive heat or naked flame.
• Lithium battery packs are small yet have a large power capacity. However,
if exposed to extreme cold (below 10°C/50°F), the effective operational time
decreases significantly. Exposure to temperatures below 0°C/32°F will render
the battery inoperative. If you are planning to shoot in an environment at these
temperatures, carry the battery pack in a pocket to keep it warm, then attach
it just prior to shooting.
• Carry the battery pack in a plastic bag when transporting it.
• If the surrounding temperature is low during recharging, recharging may take
longer, or may not work at all. It is recommended that you recharge the battery
pack at room temperature (10°C to 30°C).
• Do not short circuit; may cause burns.
• Keep the charger out of reach of children.
• Once charging is complete, unplug the charger from power source.
• Only use original mains adaptor 12V DC or car lead to power the charger.
• Keep all contacts clean.
• Do not force any of the contacts.
• Never store the battery connected to the charger for an extensive period of time.
WARNING: The battery can explode, leak, or catch on fire if exposed to high
temperatures or fire, if opened, or if disassembled.
WARNING: The battery may explode or release toxic chemicals if disposed in fire.
Use the specified power supply and battery only. To prevent injury or burns, do not allow
metal objects to contact the charger terminals. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover (or back). There are no user-serviceable parts.
Do not disassemble. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

Avant d’utiliser l’Leaf AFi digital camera system, vous devez lire ce manuel

Ne laissez pas l’camera system au soleil.
N’entreposez pas l’camera system avec des produits chimiques ou des agents

La Leaf AFi digital camera system è uno strumento ottico di alta precisione e
sensibile. Maneggiare la camera system con cura e in accordo con le istruzioni qui
fornite.
Durante l'uso della camera system, seguire le linee guida esposte in questa sezione.
Temperatura e umidità
Non esporre la Leaf AFi digital camera system a condizioni di temperatura estreme,
sotto a 0°C/32°F o sopra a 40°C/104°F.
Non esporre la Leaf AFi digital camera system a condizioni estreme di umidità.
Utilizzare la Leaf AFi digital camera system solo quando l'umidità relativa è
compresa tra 15% e 85%.
Temperature alte o condizioni estreme di umidità possono causare danni.
Non riporre la Leaf AFi digital camera system in luoghi con alta temperatura,
umidità elevata o in condizioni polverose.
Non lasciare la camera system all'interno dell'automobile dove si possono

Esposizione all'acqua
La Leaf AFi digital camera system non è a tenuta d'acqua e non è adatta alla

Se si trova dell'acqua sulla camera system, rimuoverla delicatamente con un panno
asciutto, soffice e privo di fibre di legno.

La condensa può compromettere il funzionamento della camera system, e
provocare danni irreparabili. Per evitare la formazione di condensa non esporre la
camera system a cambiamenti rapidi della temperatura dell'ambiente. Riporre la

Se la camera system è stato esposta a condensa, smontare l'obiettivo, togliere il
retro della telecamera digitale e la batteria dal corpo della telecamera. Non utilizzare
la camera system fino a quando la condensa non è evaporata completamente.
ATTENZIONE: salvo il caso in cui si debba rimuovere il retro della telecamera
digitale e gli obiettivi, non aprire o smontare mai i componenti della Leaf AFi digital

Esposizione a campi magnetici
Evitare i campi magnetici. Non utilizzare la Leaf AFi digital camera system in
prossimità di apparecchiature che producono campi elettromagnetici intensi. Campi
magnetici forti possono compromettere le funzioni della telecamera o distruggere i
dati già registrati.
Come mantenere pulita la telecamera digitale Leaf AFi
Evitare che entri in contatto con sabbia, polvere o gas tossici.
Non agitare in alcun modo e non sporcare le superfici ottiche.
Per evitare sporcare o danneggiare lo schermo di messa a fuoco, chiudere il mirino a
pozzetto se non è in uso.
Per pulire la telecamera, utilizzare un panno morbido e asciutto o leggermente
umido. Non utilizzare detergenti con solventi organici, benzile o diluenti.
Consigli generali per maneggiare la telecamera
Se si utilizzano anelli adattatori con la Leaf AFi digital camera system, togliere
sempre l'anello dal corpo della telecamera prima di separarlo dalla lente. Non
montare o smontare l'anello dall'obiettivo mentre quest'ultimo è montato sul corpo
della telecamera.
Per evitare graffi e altri danni coprire la lente con il cappuccio protettivo quando
non è in uso.
Non lasciare la camera system esposto al sole.
Non riporre la camera system insieme a reagenti chimici o a conservanti.
Non riporre camera system in prossimità di sorgenti di calore. Riponendo il sistema
in prossimità di sorgenti di calore è possibile che i cavi o gli strumenti si deformino o
si danneggino.
ATTENZIONE: la Leaf AFi digital camera system contiene un magnete. Tener conto che
i campi magnetici possono danneggiare gli orologi, le strisce magnetiche delle carte
bancarie e così via.
ATTENZIONE: non toccare le parti interne della Leaf AFi digital camera system mentre

• I blocchi batteria al litio hanno dimensioni ridotte, ma elevata capacità di
alimentazione. Tuttavia, se esposti a temperature molto basse (al di sotto dei
10°C), la durata operativa effettiva potrebbe risultare notevolmente ridotta.
L'esposizione a temperature inferiori a 0°C rende inutilizzabili le batterie.
Per l'uso in ambienti con le caratteristiche di temperatura di cui sopra,
trasportare il blocco batteria in una tasca per mantenerlo caldo, quindi
inserirlo nella telecamera subito prima di utilizzarla.
• Trasportare il blocco batteria utilizzando un sacchetto di plastica.
• Se la temperatura circostante è bassa durante il processo di ricarica,
è possibile che quest'ultimo richieda più tempo oppure che non venga
eseguito. Si consiglia di caricare il blocco batteria a temperatura ambiente
(compresa tra 10°C e 30°C).
• Evitare il verificarsi di cortocircuiti, che potrebbero causare incendi.
• Conservare il caricabatteria fuori dalla portata dei bambini.
• Quando la batteria è carica, scollegare il caricabatteria dalla fonte

Inleiding en belangrijke opmerkingen voor een
veilige werking
Voordat u de Leaf AFi digital camera system gebruikt, dient u deze handleiding
te lezen en te begrijpen.
Wanneer u de camera system gebruikt, moet u alle veiligheidsmaatregelen en
aanbevolen procedures volgen. Deze handleiding moet toegankelijk zijn voor
iedereen die de camera system bedient.
Als u de informatie in deze handleiding niet leest, begrijpt en volgt, resulteert dit
mogelijk in een onjuiste bediening van dit product en kan er een gevaarlijke situatie
ontstaan. Dit kan weer leiden tot ernstig letsel alsook schade aan het apparaat.

De Leaf AFi digital camera system is niet waterdicht en niet geschikt voor

De Leaf AFi digital camera system is een gevoelig optisch instrument met hoge
precisie. Behandel uw camera system met zorg en in overeenstemming met de
omgangsinstructies die hier worden weergegeven.
Volg, wanneer u de camera system gebruikt, de richtlijnen die worden weergegeven
in deze sectie.
Temperatuur en vochtigheid
Stel de Leaf AFi digital camera system niet bloot aan extreme temperaturen (onder
0°C/32°F of boven 40°C/104°F).
Stel de Leaf AFi digital camera system niet bloot aan extreme vochtigheid. Gebruik
de Leaf AFi digital camera system alleen bij een relatieve vochtigheid tussen de 15%

Condensatie kan de werking van de camera system negatief beïnvloeden
en tot onherstelbare schade leiden. Stel de camera system, om condensatie
te voorkomen, niet bloot aan snel veranderende omgevingstemperaturen.
Bewaar de camera system in een gesloten plastic tas.
Als uw camera system is blootgesteld aan condensatie, verwijdert u de lens,
de achterkant van de digitale camera en de batterij uit de body van de camera.
Gebruik de camera system pas weer als de condensatie volledig is verdampt.
WAARSCHUWING: U mag de onderdelen van de Leaf AFi digital camera system nooit
openen of uit elkaar halen (dit geldt vooral voor het beschermende infraroodfilterglas).
Alleen de achterkant en de lenzen van de digitale camera mag u verwijderen. Als u de
behuizing van de Leaf AFi digital camera system zomaar opent, is de garantie niet meer
geldig. Er wordt geen aansprakelijkheid geaccepteerd voor persoonlijk letsel of schade
aan de apparatuur die het gevolg is van het openen van de behuizing.

Blootstelling aan magnetische velden
Mijd magnetische velden. Gebruik de Leaf AFi digital camera system niet in de buurt
van apparaten die een sterk elektromagnetisch veld genereren. Sterke magnetische
velden kunnen de camerafuncties beschadigen of vastgelegde gegevens vernietigen.
Het digitale camerasysteem Leaf AFi schoonhouden
Vermijd contact met zand en stof en blootstelling aan giftige gassen.
Voorkom beschadiging of bevuiling van de optische oppervlakken.
Sluit, om het bevuilen of beschadigen van het focusscherm te voorkomen,
de 'waist-level finder' (zoeker die op de hoogte van het middel wordt gehouden)
wanneer u deze niet gebruikt.
Gebruik, om de camera schoon te maken, een zachte en droge, of licht bevochtigde,
doek. Gebruik geen schoonmaakmiddelen die organische oplossingen, benzyl of
verdunningsmiddelen bevatten.
Algemeen advies met betrekking tot de omgang
Als u tussenringen gebruikt voor de Leaf AFi digital camera system, dient u altijd
eerst de ring van de body van de camera te verwijderen voordat u de ring van de lens
verwijdert. U mag de ring niet op de lens draaien of hiervan verwijderen zolang de
ring vastzit aan de body van de camera.
Gebruik, om krassen of andere beschadigingen te voorkomen, de lenskap wanneer u
de lens niet gebruikt.
Laat de camera system niet in de zon liggen.
Bewaar de camera system niet in de buurt van preserveringsmiddelen
of chemicaliën.
Bewaar de camera system niet in de buurt van warmtebronnen. Als u het systeem
bewaart in de buurt van warmtebronnen, raken de kabels of instrumenten mogelijk
vervormd of beschadigd.
WAARSCHUWING: De Leaf AFi digital camera system bevat een magneet. Let erop dat
magnetische velden schade kunnen veroorzaken aan horloges, de magnetische strook
van pasjes, enzovoort.

de Leaf AFi digital camera system of die worden aanbevolen door Leaf voor
gebruik in combinatie met de camera system. Er wordt geen aansprakelijkheid
geaccepteerd voor letsel of schade die wordt veroorzaakt door het gebruik van
niet-goedgekeurde onderdelen. Neem contact op met uw dealer voor vragen over
reserveonderdelen en accessoires.
Wanneer u de camera system gebruikt met onderdelen die niet zijn meegeleverd,
zoals een flitser, dient u de veiligheidsinstructies in acht te nemen die zijn
meegeleverd bij deze onderdelen. Er wordt geen aansprakelijkheid geaccepteerd
voor letsel of schade die wordt veroorzaakt door het niet in acht nemen van
veiligheidsinformatie die is meegeleverd bij onderdelen van derden.
Waarschuwingslabel voor de batterij
Op iedere batterij is het volgende waarschuwingslabel aangebracht.
Gebruik de batterij alleen voor de Leaf AFi digital camera system. Gebruik de batterij
niet in andere apparaten.
Veiligheidsinformatie over de batterijlader
• Gebruik deze oplader alleen voor het opladen van lithium-ionbatterijen voor een
camera system. Als u dit niet doet, kan brand of een explosie het gevolg zijn.
• Haal de lader nooit uit elkaar en breng er geen veranderingen in aan.
• Breng de lader niet in contact met vocht of water.
• Laat de lader niet vallen en stel het apparaat niet bloot aan sterke schokken
of vibraties.
• Pas nooit overmatige kracht toe wanneer u de batterij aansluit of loshaalt.
• Vermijd rechtstreeks zonlicht of hoge temperaturen (bijvoorbeeld in een auto
met de ramen gesloten). Dit kan vervorming, verkleuring of een onjuiste werking
tot gevolg hebben.
• Stel het apparaat niet bloot aan bovenmatige hitte of vlammen.
WAARSCHUWING: De batterij kan ontploffen, gaan lekken of vuur vatten wanneer
deze wordt blootgesteld aan vuur of hoge temperaturen, of wanneer deze wordt
geopend of uit elkaar wordt gehaald.
WAARSCHUWING: De batterij kan exploderen of er kunnen giftige chemicaliën
vrijkomen als de batterij in aanraking komt met vuur. Gebruik uitsluitend de aangegeven
voeding en batterij. Laat metalen voorwerpen niet in contact komen
met de contactpunten van de batterijlader om verwondingen of brandplekken
te voorkomen. Verwijder nooit het deksel (of de achterkant) om eventuele risico's op elektrische schokken te vermijden. Er zijn geen onderdelen die door
de gebruiker kunnen worden onderhouden. Haal het apparaat niet uit elkaar.
Laat onderhoudsbeurten altijd door bevoegd onderhoudspersoneel uitvoeren.

• Lithiumbatterijen zijn klein maar hebben een grote voedingscapaciteit.
Als u ze echter blootstelt aan lage temperaturen (onder 10°C), kan de
effectieve werkingsduur aanzienlijk korter worden. Bij blootstelling aan
temperaturen onder de 0°C zal de batterij niet meer werken. Als u van
plan bent te fotograferen in een omgeving met dergelijke temperaturen,
kunt u de batterij het beste in uw zak bewaren zodat de batterij warm
blijft en deze pas plaatsen vlak voor het fotograferen.
• Doe de batterij tijdens het transport in een plastic zak.
• Als de omgevingstemperatuur laag is tijdens het opladen, kan het opladen
langer duren of helemaal niet werken. U kunt de batterij het beste opladen
bij kamertemperatuur (10°C tot 30°C).
• Voorkom kortsluiting vanwege het brandgevaar.
• Houd de lader buiten het bereik van kinderen.
• Wanneer het opladen is voltooid, haalt u de lader uit de stroomvoorziening.
• Gebruik alleen de originele elektriciteitsadapter (12V DC) of de autolader.
• Houd alle contactpunten schoon.
• Forceer de contactpunten niet.
• Berg de batterij nooit gedurende langere tijd op terwijl deze nog op de lader
is aangesloten.

техники безопасности и рекомендованные процедуры. Настоящее
руководство должно храниться в месте, доступном для всех
пользователей камеры.

камеры и травмам.

Общие рекомендации по обращению с камерой
При снятии промежуточных колец с цифровой камеры Leaf AFi после
их использования необходимо сначала отсоединять кольцо от корпуса
камеры, а затем – кольцо с объектива. Не соединяйте и не разъединяйте
кольцо и объектив, пока кольцо прикреплено к корпусу камеры.
Во избежание царапин и прочих повреждений, закрывайте
неиспользуемый объектив крышкой.
Не оставляйте камеру под прямыми солнечными лучами.
Не храните камеру вместе с консервантами или химикатами.
Храните камеру вдали от источников тепла. Хранение камеры вблизи
источника тепла может привести к повреждению кабелей, а также
деформации или повреждению приборов.
ОСТОРОЖНО: В цифровой камере Leaf AFi имеется магнит. Воздействие

12 Chapter 2 – Getting Started
Powering your AFi
There are four ways to power your AFi digital camera system:
•Using a single battery solution using a battery located in the handgrip.
•Using a split supply solution using a battery in the handgrip, and a
second battery on the AFi back. This solution gives you the flexibility
to remove the AFi back and continue working while the power is still
on. For more information on the AFi back battery, see Chapter 4, Power Supply.
•Using a 12 V DC split power supply. For more information, see
Connecting the AFi Back to a Power Supply on page 61.
•Using a split supply and tethered solution using a battery in the
handgrip, and by powering the AFi back using a FireWire cable.
Inserting the Battery in the Handgrip
Note: Before using the camera system for the first time, you must charge the
battery. This may take a few hours.

Open the case of the handgrip by squeezing and pulling the battery
compatment door downwards.

1.Press the lens release button and rotate the body cap counterclockwise
to remove the cover on the front of the camera system.
2.Remove the rear lens cap from the lens.
3.Align the red arrow on the rear of the lens with the red arrow on the

¾ Place the viewfinder horizontally on the top of the camera, and press it
downwards.
You will hear a "click" when the viewfinder is locked.
Note: Make sure that the viewfinder is locked on both sides.
¾ To remove the viewfinder, press the buttons on each side of the camera,
and pull the viewfinder off the camera body.

¾ Gently pull the top rear side of the waist-level viewfinder.
The viewfinder opens and locks in place.
¾ To open the pop-up loupe, gently lift the tab in the upper right side of
the viewfinder. The loupe opens and locks in place.
The viewfinder is equipped with a hinge joint on each side and can be
folded and shut.
¾ To shut the viewfinder, push the hinge joints on both sides of the
viewfinder inwards.
The viewfinder folds shut.

Removing the AFi Back
The Leaf AFi digital camera is provided with the back attached to the
camera, and does not need to be assembled. If you wish to remove the
back, do the following:
Rotating the AFi Back
¾ Holding the AFi camera securely, push the back release inwards and
upwards, and gently pull the AFi back away from the camera body.
Note: It is highly recommended to use the covers provided to protect the back
of the camera and the front of the AFi back when not in use.
1.Holding the AFi camera securely, push the back release inwards and
upwards, and gently pull the AFi back away from the camera body.
2.Rotate the AFi back counterclockwise by 90°.
3.Line up the AFi back and the camera.
4.Insert the pins of the AFi back into the holes on the rear end of the
camera.
5.Hold the back parallel to the body, and push the back and the camera
together making sure that each pin is locked at the same time.
Tip: When the back is detached from the camera and not in use, please use the
protection cap.

Adjusting the Handgrip Position
1.Holding the AFi camera securely, push the handgrip release button.

Attaching the AFi Camera to a Tripod
The AFi camera suitcase contains a quick-clamping mounting tripod plate
with 1/4" and 3/8" tripod thread. The tripod mounting plate is compatible
with the Novoflex Q Base System.

Attaching a Neck Strap
The neck strap included in your AFi camera suitcase can be attached to the
camera.
1.Insert the metal lugs at either end of the neck strap into the slots
located on each side of the camera.

Push each metal lug down until you hear a click.

The metal lug is locked in place. It is important to ensure that the lugs
are locked in order to prevent the camera from accidentally falling.

Formatting a CompactFlash Card
Format a CompactFlash® card in the following circumstances:
•If the CompactFlash card is new.
•If you have used the CompactFlash card on a non-Leaf digital camera.
You can format the card on a computer running either Mac OS or
Windows. When formatting the CompactFlash card, you can use either a
card reader, or the Leaf AFi to read the card.
Notes:
•If you use the Leaf AFi as a card reader, we recommend that you use a
computer running Mac OS X.
•Formatting the CompactFlash card erases all data on the card.
If you have been using the CompactFlash card with your AFi back, and
wish to erase all the data on the card, perform a quick format.
Formatting in Mac OS X
1.Insert the CompactFlash card into the card reader or the Leaf AFi.
2.On the desktop, double-click the system disk.
3.Select Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
4.On the left panel of the Disk Utility dialog box, select the removable
disk that you want to format.

5.Click the Erase tab.

Camera Controls
Turning Your Camera System On and Off
Before you turn on your digital camera system, make sure that you have
inserted a charged battery.
1.Turn the On/Off dial to single shot or continuous mode.

Briefly push the shutter release button.
The display on the AFi camera body and back turn on, and the camera
system is ready for use.
Note: The camera system will enter sleep mode if it is not used for three
minutes. You can set the sleep mode in the camera menu.
To turn the camera off:

Turn the shutter release dial to OFF.
Selecting the Shutter Release Mode
¾ Using the On/Off dial (Figure 18), select the desired shutter release
mode:
Single shot: takes a single shot when you push the shutter release
button
Continuous: the camera shoots continually until you release the
shutter release button

Exposure bracketing:
a.Set the On/Off dial to red dot mode.
b.Press and hold down the On/Off button.
c.Set the rear dial to Exposure Bracketing.
d.Set the front dial to the desired bracketing:
•three exposures in one third, two thirds, or full stop
increments
•five exposures in one third, two thirds, or full stop increments
Self timer:
a.Set the On/Off dial to red dot mode.
b.Press and hold down the On/Off button.
c.Set the rear dial to Self timer.
d.Set the front dial to the desired timer length, from ¼ second to 128
seconds.
Ultrafast: shoot continually with the mirror locked up:
a.Set the On/Off dial to red dot mode.
b.Press and hold down the On/Off button.
c.Rotate the rear dial and select Ultra Fast in the handgrip LCD.
d.Release the On/Off button and start shooting.
Focus bracketing: take a series of photos with the camera adjusting
the focus to be on either side of the plane of focus of the first shot.

Selecting the Focus Mode
¾ Move the AF switch to select the desired focus mode:
S—Single focus: the camera automatically focuses on an object
until it reaches sharpest focus
C—Continuous focus: the camera automatically and continually
focuses on a moving object for as long as you hold down the shutter
release button halfway
M—Manual focus: you focus the camera manually by turning the
focusing ring on the lens
Tip: To focus automatically when in manual focus mode, push the AF button.
The lens focuses and then you return to manual focus mode.
Red dot—use to set the autofocus:
a.Set the AF switch to red dot.
b.Set the rear dial to one of the following:
•Single
•Continuous
•Manual
Tip: To lock the focus, press the AF button when the AF switch is set to S or C.

Setting the Focus Trap
Focus trap is a useful feature for when you are photographing a moving
subject at a specific distance from your camera. Focus trap enables you to
set the camera to shoot automatically when your subject reaches the preset
focus distance.
1.On the AF switch, set M (manual focus) mode.
2.Set the On/Off dial to red dot.
3.Press and hold down the On/Off button.
4.Rotate the Rear dial to select Focus Trap in the handgrip LCD.
5.Release the On/Off button.
The Focus Trap icon appears on the LCD screen.
6.Manually focus on the desired point for trapping.
7.Point the camera so that the focus area is on an out of focus area.
8.Push the Shutter Release button all the way in.
The shutter is not released.
9.Keep holding the Shutter Release button down.
10. Move the camera so that the focus area falls on an object that is at the
same distance from the camera as the desired point for trapping.
The shutter is automatically released.

Selecting the Exposure Mode

¾ Move the AE switch to select the desired exposure mode:
P—Programmed auto exposure: The optimal aperture and shutter
combination is automatically selected by the camera system. If you
change the shutter time or the aperture setting, the other value is
automatically adjusted.
S—Shutter priority exposure control: In this mode you set the
shutter speed using the rear dial; the camera automatically shuts the
aperture.
A—Aperture priority exposure control: In this mode you set the
aperture using the front dial; the camera automatically selects the
shutter speed.
M—Manual setting of exposure control: In this mode you can set
the aperture using the front dial and the shutter speed using the
rear dial. On a non-AFD lens, you can set the aperture by using the
aperture ring of the lens and the shutter speed using the rear dial.
Red dot—use to set the auto-exposure settings:
a.Push and hold down the AE button.
b.Set the rear dial to one of the following:
•Manual
•Aperture priority
•Shutter priority
•Program
•Bulb
•Time

Tip: To lock the exposure, hold downthe AE button while the camera is set to
P, S, or A. The exposure is locked for as long as you hold the button.
Note: If you are working with an AF-lens, the aperture ring has to be set to A to
enable the automatic functions (program, aperture priority and shutter priority
modes). If the aperture ring is not set to A, the aperture has to be set manually at
the lens.
Focus Modes
Shooting with Single Focus
1.Set the AF switch to S.
2.Look through the viewfinder and position the focus area over the
subject.
3.Push the shutter release button until you encounter light resistance.
The lens focuses automatically.
Sharp focus has been detected when the two arrows of the focus
indicator in the viewfinder LCD display appear simultaneously. If the
camera system is unable to focus on the subject, the focus indicator
arrows blink.
4.Push the shutter release down fully to take the shot.
5.To refocus, release the shutter release button, and push it again lightly.
Note: In poor light conditions, the internal IR illuminator assists the auto-focus.

Tip: If you are unable to focus, reposition the focus area over a welltextured or higher-contrast area at the same distance. Keep the shutter
release pressed slightly before taking your shot. If necessary, perform
manual fine-tuning.

Shooting with Continuous Focus
1.Set the AF switch to C.
2.Look through the viewfinder and position the focus areaover the
subject.
3.Push the shutter release button until you encounter light resistance.
The lens focuses automatically and continues to refocus if the subject
in the viewfinder moves.
Sharp focus has been detected when the two arrows of the focus
indicator in the viewfinder LCD display appear simultaneously. If the
camera system is unable to focus on the subject, the focus indicator
arrows blink.
Shooting with Manual Focus
1.Set the AF switch to M.
2.Using the viewfinder as an aid, aim the camera at the subject.
3.When the focus area is on the subject, adjust the lens focusing ring.
4.To help you focus, use the loupe in the waist-level viewfinder.
Sharp focus has been detected when the two arrows of the focus
indicator in the viewfinder LCD display appear simultaneously. If the
camera system is unable to focus on the subject, the focus indicator
arrows blink.

Move the Meter Mode switch to select the desired meter mode:
•Average: The exposure for the image is calculated using an average
meter reading.
•Center-weighted light metering: The exposure for the image is
calculated with 75% metering from the central area, and 25%
metering the remaining area.
•Spot metering: The exposure for the image is calculated on the
metering of a spot approximately represented by the circle in the
viewfinder.
•Red dot—use to change the ISO setting for film: Press the Meter
Mode button, and rotate the front dial to the desired ISO.
Note: To change the ISO for digital shooting, use the controls on the AFi
back. For more information, see Setting the ISO on page 38.
2.
Push the shutter release button until you reach the half-way position
and encounter light resistance.
The camera system measures the light and stores the reading as long as
the shutter release button is kept in the half-way position. At the same
time, the auto-focus is also locked.

Setting the EV Compensation
¾ Push the Meter Mode button and rotate the rear dial to select the
amount of EV compensation.
You can compensate +/-5 EV. EV compensation is indicated in the
viewfinder LCD as well as the handgrip LCD.
Setting the Flash Mode

¾ Push and hold the Flash button, and rotate the front dial to select one
of the following:
•Normal Sync: The flash is triggered immediately as the shutter
opens.
•Rear Sync: The flash is triggered just before the shutter closes.
Note: The Leaf AFi can use TTL flash via a Rollei SCA 3562 adapter connected to
the Flash Shoe on the side of the camera. Electronic flash can also be used by
connecting a PC cord to the Flash Sync socket or via a wireless remote device
connected to the Flash Shoe.
Setting the Flash EV Compensation
¾ Push and hold the Flash button, and rotate the rear dial to select the
desired amount of EV compensation. You can compensate +/-3 EV.
