Numeric / Alphabet / Symbol keys
The numeric / alphabet / symbol keys are used for entering numbers, letters and symbols. In a situation where only a number is expected, for example, when dialing a phone number, pressing a key will enter the corresponding digit. For example, pressing will enter the number 2. In a situation where alphabet or symbol or both are allowed - when entering a URL address for example - you will need to press the same key repeatedly to reach the character you want. For example, pressing two times will enter the letter A. To enter alphabets in lower or upper case, you need to be in lower case mode or upper case mode, respectively. A soft key is used to switch between the two modes. The current mode is indicated by one of the following icons shown on the LCD screen.
: Current mode is lower case.
: Current mode is upper case.
: Current mode is numeric.

Speakerphone Key
This key is to let you make/answer a call in speakerphone mode, or switch the mode between hands-free and handset during a call.

Feature Keys
The feature keys provide a quick way to invoke a feature or a function.
Phonebook:
Press to access the phonebook menu.
Video Privacy:
Press to turn on video privacy, the videophone stops sending your video to the recipient. Press again to turn off video privacy.
Flash:
When there is an incoming call, pressing this key followed by a phone number will forward the call to the number.
During a call, if another call comes, you will hear a reminding tone. Press this key to answer the other call, and use this key to switch between two calls.
Redial:
Press to make the last call.

Up:
Move to select a menu item or a menu entry. During a call, increases the speakerphone volume.
Down:
Move to select a menu item or a menu entry. During a call, decreases the speakerphone volume.
Left:
Move to select a menu item. During text entry, moves the cursor left. During a call, decreases the video bandwidth.
Right:
Move to select a menu item. During text entry, moves the cursor right. During a call, increases the video bandwidth.
OK:
Confirms a selection. During a call, shows the current video bandwidth. Press this key at the home page and the picture below will show up. The phone number and IP address will be displayed.
There are four soft keys: F1 , F2 , F3 & F4 .
. Each key performs a specific function indicated by a corresponding icon displayed near the bottom edge of the screen. The specific function is assigned by the internal logic of the videophone and varies from menu to menu. For example, pressing a soft key corresponding to the Phonebook function will cause the videophone to enter the Phonebook menu directly.

There are two LED indicators on the front panel. Their definitons are described below.

Blink Power is on but there are some
problems. The detail will be displayed on the display (LCD or external display).

DC IN:
Plug in the provided external power adapter.
Network:
Plug in a Cat-5 network cable for connecting to an upstream network port.
Line:
Connect a telephone line cord to the wall jack (for the models with PSTN connectivity only.)
A/V Output:
Plug in the AV cable for connecting to an external display.

4 Installation
Step 1 Pick a good spot
Prolonging the lifespan
Avoid storing or operating the XTP8886 in abnormal conditions. High temperatures or excessive humidity could cause the unit to malfunction and shorten its useful lifespan.
Stability
Place your XTP8886 on top of a counter, desk, or table with the CCD camera opening in front.
Lighting condition
Make sure the lighting is sufficient and does not shine directly into camera lenses.
Installing the unit
Connect the handset cable.
Step 2 Connect the handset
Connect the handset and the XTP8886 main unit with handset cable.

Step 4 Plug in for power
Plug the power adapter into the wall outlet. Plug the free end of the power adapter into the power connector (DC IN) on XTP8886.
Connect the power adapter.
Step 3 Connect the Ethernet cable
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable in the port marked with "NETWORK" on the back of XTP8886. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable in the RJ-45 jack of the Ethernet device (hub, router, or ATU-R).
Connect the Ethernet cable to the Internet device.
For the models with PSTN connectivity, you must also connect a telephone line to the telephone jack.

5 System Setup
1. Plug a LAN cable into the network port.
2. Plug in power.
3. It takes about 2 minutes to boot up the videophone. During this period,
please do not touch any key or turn off the videophone.
4. Since the videophone has not been set up, you may see error messages.
Press to go to the Home screen.
Powering Up the Videophone For the First Time

In startup screen the videophone will test self. If any item fails you can press

If the XTP8886 is not connected to the Internet or the connection fails, you will be asked to input the current date and time. Press when done.

In the home screen when you press to go to Settings menu, you will be asked to enter password. There is no password for general users. Just press . The password for administrator is 4321.

IP Telephony Setup
Set Up Videophone to Use a Fixed IP Address
1. Press .
2. Select the "Network Setting" icon.
3. Press to change the Connect Type to Static.
4. Press to move to IP Address. Enter a fixed IP address.
5. Press to move to Subnet Mask. Enter a subnet mask.
6. Press to move to Gateway. Enter a gateway IP address.
7. Press to move to DNS Address. Enter DNS address.
8. Press . Press to confirm and reboot.
Set Up Videophone to Register to a SIP Server
1. Press .
2. Select the "Service Setting" item.
3. Select "SIP Service".
4. Select "Account Setting".
5. Select an account.
6. In SIP Server, enter the IP address of your SIP server (say 192.168.1.1).
7. Press to move to SIP Domain. Enter your SIP server domain name.
8. Press to move to SIP Port. Enter your SIP server port.
9. Press to move to Telephone No. Enter a phone number of your choice.
10. Press to move to Caller ID. Enter an identifier of your choice.
11. Press to move to Login Name. Enter name to login SIP server.
12. Press to move to Login Password. Enter password to login SIP server.

Keep a distance of 0.5 meters away from XTP8886.
Avoid having lights behind you that might shine into the camera lens.

6 Making a Call
Here are a few things you need to consider before making a video call.
Before making a video call
Avoid having a lot of movement in the background and try not to move around excessively. Too much movement tends to slow down the frame rate of the video image, resulting in a jerky picture.

Making and receiving calls
Dialing out
There are four methods of dialing a number: Direct Dial, Speed Dial, Dial from Call List, and Dial from Phonebook. The only difference among the four methods is how a phone number is obtained.
To use the Direct Dial method, press , or pick up the handset, and then enter the phone number or IP address using the numeric keys.
Once a phone number is in place, whether they are entered directly or retrieved from Call Log or Phonebook, you will be presented with three choices: AV, Voice, and Cancel.

Phone numbers are stored in 0 to 9. In the dialing screen, press any number from 0 to 9 and the speed dial options will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

User can use text or numeric mode input IP address in place. If you need to change numeric or text mode, press to change. See the section called "Keypad" chapter.

You can use keypad in text mode to input numeric directly, for example: pressing will enter the numeric "1", and pressing two times will enter the symbol "."

Answering
When a call is received, your screen will show the calling number, the Caller ID, and whether it is a call with both video and audio or with only audio. When it is a call with both video and audio, you can choose to answer it with both video and audio, or with only audio (so you don't want to be seen). Please refer to the two tables below.

When video privacy is turned on, the videophone stops sending your video to the recipient during a call with both video and audio. Video privacy has no effect during a voice only call. To turn on video privacy, press once. The recipient will see a message on his screen indicating that you have turned on privacy. To turn off video privacy, press again. Video transmission will resume immediately. You can think of video privacy as a video mute.

Press the key to increase the volume of the speakerphone, and the key to decrease the volume.

Audio Mute
Press to mute your audio. The recipient will not be able to hear anything on your side. To turn off mute, press the same key again.

Call List
The Call List contains three logs of information. The first log, Inbox, stores information pertaining to incoming answered calls. The second log, Missed Call, stores information pertaining to incoming calls that have been missed (not answered). The last log, Outbox, stores information pertaining to dialed calls. The kind of information stored in all three logs is the same caller ID and date & time of the call. Each log is capable of storing 10 entries.
All three logs can be displayed together or separately. The default is to display all logs together as in the picture below.

In this format, the symbol in front of the log indicates the type of call. You can use to select the call record, then press to make a call directly.
If you want to see the separate call logs, you can press to enter Call Log menu. See the pictures on next page.

To navigate and make selections in the Call Log menu and its sub-menus, use the navigation keys and soft keys as described previously. Referring to the figure above, to enter the Inbox menu, first use to highlight the Inbox icon, and then press .

Because the three logs essentially store the same information and are operated the same way, only the Inbox will be extensively discussed in this document. The same discussions apply to both the Outbox and the Missed Call.
Responding to a Call
This action is also known as Dial from Call Log.
Use to highlight the Inbox log. Press to go to Inbox.
Use to highlight an entry that needs a response.

Press to make a video call. Press to make a voice only

The saving procedure is identical to creating a new entry in the Phonebook menu. See the section named "Create a Contact" in the Phonebook chapter.

Phonebook
The Phonebook menu is the place where you store your contact information. When you enter the Phonebook menu, you will see a contact list with names, phone numbers and type of the phone number (IP or PSTN), or you will be required to add a new contact if the phonebook is empty. The contact can be created manually, or transferred from the Call List. Each contact can store four numbers with the type indication. Select one of the four numbers as the default. The Phonebook is capable of storing 100 contacts.
To navigate and make selections in the Phonebook menu and its sub-menus, use the navigation keys and soft keys as described previously.
Create a Contact
Use to choose the Speed Dial number. Press to add the phone number to Speed Dial. If the chosen number is already used, you will be asked if you would like to replace it. Press when done.

7 Configuration Menu
The configuration menu is the place where you set up the videophone to work in your network and to work with your service provider. It is also where you configure it according to your preferences. To enter the configuration menu, you can press at the Home screen. There are six icons corresponding to six sub-menus. To enter a sub-menu, use the cursor keys to highlight an icon, and then press or .

When you make a change and want to save it, press . The screen will prompt you for confirmation. Press to confirm, or to discard the change.

You can press to enter the Quick Setting menu, where you can quickly configure the essential settings, including SIP Account Setting, Network Setting, and STUN Setting. Please refer to the related chapters for more details.

Photo Setting
The Photo Setting menu contains the settings for displaying photos in the photo browser. The settings here are common to the photos stored in the SD memory card and the USB device connected to the XTP8886.
Play in style
Choose the style the photos are displayed. The options are Normal and Effect.
Speed
Choose the speed at which the photos are displayed. The options are Slow, Medium, and Fast.
Random
Choose whether the photos are displayed in a random order. The options are ON and OFF.
Press when you finish choosing the desired options.

Device Setting
The Device Setting menu contains the general settings for the videophone, including Display Setting, Sound Setting, Time Setting, and Change User Password functions.
Display Setting
The Display Setting menu contains Language and Screen Saving.
Language
This function can change the UI language. You can press the keys to change it.

Screen Saving
You can configure the screen saver here. There are two options: Photo Display and Screen Off. If you choose Photo Display and when the screen saver is triggered, the videophone will play the pictures in the SD memory card if it's present. If you choose Screen Off, the videophone will turn off LCD. You can also set the time for these two functions to be activated, and choose whether to enable Display Effect.
Sound Setting
The Sound Setting menu contains Ringing Volume and Call Volume.
Ringing Volume
This function can increase or decrease an incoming call ringing volume. The range is from vol-0 to vol-9. You can press the keys to change it.
Call Volume
This function can increase or decrease a dialing out phone volume. The range is from vol-0 to vol-9. You can press the keys to change it.

Note: The Photo Display option will only play the pictures in the SD card.
To enable this function, you have to create a "Photo" folder in the SD card and put the pictures you want to display in the folder.
Time Setting
You can input available NTP server address, and set the time zone according to where you are using the phone.
Change Password
The videophone provides a two level password: administrator and user. Administrator can change all of the settings, but user can only change the limited items which are assigned. The following figure shows you how to change the user password by using OSD menu. You need to input the new password twice for confirmation, and then press to save the change. You can also perform this function on the web configuration page. If you want to change the administrator password, then you must use web configuration to perform it.

Connect Type refers to how the IP address/Subnet Mask/Gateway/DNS address for your videophone should be acquired. There are three types of settings.

The Photo menu is the place where you browse and capture pictures. The system memory is capable of storing 100 pictures and the capacity of the external memory depends on the size of the SD memory card and the USB device.

If the picture to be displayed is larger than 640 x 480 pixels, it will not show up, and a message "unsupported size" will appear.
Browse the Pictures in the USB Device
The operations for browsing the pictures in the USB device are essentially the same as the descriptions for browsing the pictures in the SD card.
In the Photo Browser, press to enter the Photo Setting menu, as described in the Photo Setting section.
Choose the options you prefer. Press
when done.
In the Photo Browser, press to automatically play all of the pictures in the SD card.

If you press and choose "Phonebook":
Use to choose the contact for the picture.
Press .
Use to browse the pictures.
Press and choose "SD card" or "USB" to copy the picture to the SD card or the USB device. Choose "Phonebook" to use this picture as the image of a contact in the Phonebook.
Press to enter the Photo Browser.
Use to select "Capture" and press to enter the browser window.
Now the contact will use the picture as his image.
Press to return to the Photo Browser.

Note:
1. The pictures stored in the internal memory of the XTP8886 can be copied to the SD card or the USB device. However, you can not copy the pictures in the SD card or the USB device to the internal memory of XTP8886.
2. If you press and , the "Phonebook" option will not be available.

9 TV Mode
If you connect an AV cable to an external display device (TV or monitor), you can switch to TV mode following the instructions below.
Press at the home screen, and the screen below will appear.
Press to switch to TV mode. The LCD will be turned off.
Use to switch between the built-in LCD and the external display device.

10 Trouble Shooting
Your XTP8886 is reliable and easy to use. If you encounter any problem while using this product, please refer to the table below for possible solutions.
Plug power adapter in the power outlet in the wall.
Plug the power cord in the unit.
Power Indicator OFF
Make sure the power indicator is ON.
If auxiliary video input is used on TV, select the appropriate video input for TV.
No image is displayed on LCD screen
Make sure the power cord is connected.
Be sure the RJ-45 wire is plugged into the "NETWORK" jack directly on the XTP8886.
The unit is not responding when any button is pressed
Plug RJ-45 cable from wall socket into "NETWORK" jack on the unit.
Can not dial an IP address
Increase light on the image and reduce back lighting.
Video of local view is dark
Hang up and call again.
Ask the other party to call you.
Video connection is not established correctly
