Instructions for using LD-Systems Pro Series Loudspeakers
Description
The speaker enclosures in the LD Pro Series have been developed as universal passive, or two-way active systems for full-range operation. Eight versions are available:
LDP8-2 With 8“ Bass chassis and 1“ HF-driver, 80W RMS, 8 LDP8-2A As above, but with built-in amplifier 50 + 20W in 4 + 16
LDP10-2 With 10“ Bass chassis and 1“ HF-driver, 150W RMS, 8 LDP10-2A As above, but with built-in amplifier 100 + 25W in 4 + 16
LDPN12-2 With Neodymium 12“ Bass chassis and Neodymium 1“ HF-driver, 250W RMS,
8
LDPN12-2A As above, but with built-in amplifier 160 + 70W in 4 + 8
LDPN15-2 With Neodymium 15“ Bass chassis and Neodymium 1“ HF-driver, 300W RMS,
8
LDPN15-2A As above, but with built-in amplifier 160 + 70W RMS in 4 + 8.
Recessed flanges make the cabinets suitable for mounting on speaker stands, but they can also be flown thanks to the lashing points provided. A floor monitor bracket can be ordered as an optional extra. All cabinets are manufactured from high quality plastic.
Placement
Indoors, you can place the cabinet however you see fit. Use the built-in flange for a speaker stand, hang the cabinet from the flying system using the recessed threads provided in the top of the cabinet (each of which is protected by a rubber cap when not in use) or use the optional monitor stand. Outdoors, you must ensure that the cabinet is placed so that it will be protected against direct exposure to rain and water spray.
Connections
The passive versions of the cabinets are equipped with 2 Speakon jacks; the second jack is used to loop-through the signal to the next cabinet. The active version is first connected to the 230V (UK 240V) AC mains using a mains cable. The following audio inputs are available:
LDP8-2A - Balanced Line In via XLR, balanced Microphone in via XLR, the input sensitivity of both inputs can be adjusted using the adjacent Level control.
LDP10-2A and LDPN12-2A balanced Microphone in via XLR, unbalanced Microphone in via jack, the input sensitivity of both inputs can be adjusted using the adjacent Level control.
LDPN15-2A has two microphone input channels.
The XLR Line in is also a balanced input. Unbalanced Line signals can be connected via RCA/phono sockets. There are two (L & R) for a stereo signal, which are mixed together internally to mono. The gain is also adjusted via the line in Level control. Of course, the line and microphone inputs can all be used at the same time. The Master Volume determines
the output volume of the cabinet. The shared Bass and Treble controls are used to shape the output sound. A Bass Boost switch at LDPN12-2A and LDPN15-2A allows you to enhance the bass response by 3dB @ 100Hz (LDPN12-2A), and 6dB @ 100Hz (LDPN15-2A) which is particularly useful at low to mid volume levels. However at higher levels this should be switched off, as clipping or distortion may occur. Before switching on the power to the unit (the green LED serves as an indicator lamp), all level controls should be set to minimum. Otherwise, microphones already connected to the system may cause undesired feedback. Start with the tone controls in the middle position. Volume balancing between the various input sources takes place using the associated level controls; the master volume controls the final combined output volume. The red LED blinks to indicate amplifier clipping, which should be avoided. Should a low humming noise (ground loop) occur, this can be eliminated by switching the Ground Lift to On. Ground looping is caused by two pieces of equipment being doubly earthed. A blue LED in front of all cabinets shows signal present.
