General safety instructions
THIS MACHINE MAY CAUSE SE-
RIOUS INJURY. Carefully study the operating instructions to learn how to properly use, prepare, service, start and stop the machine. Acquaint yourself with all adjustable parts and the appropriate use of the machine. Practice using the appliance and, if you are feeling unsure, have an experienced user or expert explain its functionality, method of operation and best practices to you. Make sure you can immediately shut off the appliance in case of emergency.
Exhaust fumes contain poisonous carbon monoxide. Do not inhale the exhaust fumes. Do not start the
machine in closed or badly ven­tilated rooms. Fuel is poisonous. Prevent petrol from coming into contact with your skin and do not inhale petrol fumes. Non-compli­ance may cause a health risk!
Ensure proper ventilation when han-
up or in places where fuel is stored, and keep away all heat sources. Do

Do not allow other persons touch the appliance. Keep the appliance away from humans - mainly from children ­and pets. Keep a safety clearance of 3 m in all directions. Suspend your work when humans or pets are nearby.

Make yourself familiar with your envi­ronment and take heed of possible ha­zards you may not hear when working with the machine.
Carefully inspect the are you are about to trim and remove any wires or other foreign matter.
Wear suitable working clothes such as solid boots with non-slip soles, sturdy long trousers and gloves (e.g. chrome leather gloves). Do not wear long clothing or jewellery because these might be caught by moving parts. Do not operate the appliance bare-footed or when wearing open sandals.
Wear goggles and a head guard to protect yourself against parts darting off. Wear ear protection.
Ensure a safe stand during operation, especially on stairs or ladders. Avoid abnormal postures. Always hold the ap­pliance with both hands. Be particularly careful when working down a slope.
Before turning on the appliance, check that it will not touch any objects. Turn the appliance off before putting it down.
Do not operate the appliance when you are tired or not concentrating or after consuming alcohol or tablets. Have regular breaks. Proceed with a clear mind.
