RL-14
NOTICE
As with any fine tool, reasonable care and maintenance of this product will provide years of dependable service. Please read this manual before using your light. It includes important safety and operating instructions and should be saved.
OPERATIONS
Charge the RL-14 overnight before first use. The RL-14 features a three position switch that allows selection of the high-intensity discharge
lamp of the convenient path finding LEDs.
The center position is the “OFF” position. Operates on high intensity discharge for 1 ¾ hours or
100 hours with the path finding LEDs after a full charge.
Depending on the actual ballast and lamp used in the RL-14 the lamp may flash intermittently or
suddenly extinguish altogether at the end of the run time.
The RL-14 features a swivel head that rotates 270 degrees. ( DO NOT force the head beyond its
swivel stops)
SAFETY
Before using your RL-14 and charger, read all instructions in the manual and all cautionary
markings on the charger.
DANGER: HIGH VOLTAGE The RL-14 requires thousands of volts at startup and has high internal
pressure. DO NOT operate the RL-14 unless the lamp and ballast assemblies are properly mounted inside the head, and the reflector/lens assembly and the lens rings are in place.
While eye damage for the RL-14 is unlikely, you should not stare into the beam. WARNING: Never leave your RL-14 with its lamp facing against any surface including skin while
in operation. The resultant heat build-up can cause a fire or burns.
The RL-14 is not approved for use in hazardous atmospheres. WARNING: Any other AC charger may overheat and fail or cause a burn hazard.
CHARGING
Fully charge your RL-14 before the first use.
1. The RL-14 may be stored in the charger continuously when not in use.
2. To charge the RL-14, first turn it off and insert it into the charger. It will only fit one way into the
rack.
3. Charging will occur only when the lamp is “OFF”.

4. The RL-14 may also be charged without using rack by plugging the charge cord directly into the
socket in the rear of the RL-14.
5. To release the light from the rack, push the black release bar down, slide the light away from the
release bar and lift up.
6. The battery is rated at a nominal 7 ampere-hours and is capable of being recharged up to 500
times.
7. The switch is on the left side of the handle. A pair of charging indicators is located on the
opposite side underneath the information label. The red LED means that the light is charging. The green LED means it is charged and ready for use.
8. It is important to understand that a battery can take from only minutes to a maximum of 24
hours to fully charge depending on the battery’s residual charge and other factors. For some period of time near the end of charge, both the Red and Green LED’s may be on at the same
time. When fully charged, the red LED should turn “off” completely and the green LED should be on steadily.
CHARGER MOUNTING
Before drilling any holes, make sure there is room to insert and remove the RL-14.
Four self-tapping 1 ¼ #8 screws are included with each rack and should be sufficient for most
mounting situations.
Should your mounting situations require heavier hardware, use #8 machine screws. The recommended mounting positions are from horizontal to vertical (with the lamp end facing
up).
VEHICLE CHARGING
The direct wire charge rack is available for permanent installation (The standard charge rack can be used with standard DC cord # 22051, which has a cigarette lighter plug for temporary installations.)
IMPORTANT: Before making electrical connections in a vehicle, keep in mind that a shorted auto battery can easily start a fire.
Make all connections with insulated lugs or other connectors intended for such use. Be sure that
your installation is fused. (A five amp fuse must be used on the positive lead.)
The red or red striped lead is positive and the unmarked lead is negative. When connecting the
charger to a fuse block, the red positive power lead goes to the connector that is dead when the vehicle’s fuse is removed.
The charge body is electrically isolated from the charge circuit and allows positive ground
installations.

We recommend connecting chargers to an unswitched source of power to unsure the RL-14 is
always fully charged.
If the vehicle will not be driven for several days, the light should be removed from the charger to
avoid the vehicle battery from draining.
Charging the light with a fully discharged battery draws approximately 10 ampere hours until
fully charged and up to ¼ ampere continuously in maintenance (green) mode.
MAINTENANCE
While the lead-acid battery supplied with the RL-14 has been specifically selected to tolerate deep discharges, the battery should be charged as soon as possible after use to ensure maximum service life. The battery should never be exercised in an attempt to erase memory which never occurs with lead-acid batteries.
