TE STANDARD 2L5 HORIZONTAL' HYDRAULIC .
G MACHINE
Referring to general arrangement blue print F-30, we offer the following data for
setting up and operating our standard 2L5 machine*
When machine leaves our factory, position of sliding head B-511 is left at ap~
proximatoly mid-stroke. After filling reservoir C-768 with proper grade .of.oil
valve plunger A-1386 should be depressed to allow air to c scape from hydraulic sys~
tern. When air bubbles stop coming from this valve, motor may be started, making
sure that direction of rotation agrees with arrow.
then be moved slightly forward to cause ran to move slowly toward' cylinder,
ram has moved a few inches, operating handle should be moved in opposite direction
to reverse travel of ram at slow speed. This operation should be repeated several
Operating handle C-1862 should
lifter
times, gradually lengthening stroke of ram until full ram travel is obtained. This
will work all of the air out of the hydraulic system and it will be necessary to add
more oil to the reservoir to bring it up to the proper level. All dirt must be
carefully wiped off of draw rod B-541 to make sure that it will not be scored by
packing in stuffing box, then draw rod should be covered with clean oil to properly
lubricate the packing. Adjusting screws on packing gland B-512 must NOT be any.
tighter than necessary to prevent leakage from stuffing box.
The principle of control of this machine is very simple. When machine is idle,
operating handle C-1862 stands approximately in a vortical position with control of
West Pump in neutral position, at which time this pump is not discharging oil in
either direction. When operating handle is pulled toward front of machine, linkage
attached thereto causes motion of pump control connection A-1470 to make pump dis
charge oil in direction to move ran toward cylinder for broaching -stroke. Speed
control adjusting screw A-1104 regulates the amount of travel of knock-off shaft
A-I4O8, thus regulating volumetric discharge to control broaching speed. Speed
control adjusting screw A
direction to control volumetric discharge of TT
-1269 regulates travel of knek-off rod A-1408, in opposite-
cst Pump during return stroke of ran*
This control provides independent regulation of speed in both directions*
Back pressure valve E-542 Arr*gt located on top of cylinder at rear of reserved.
is for the purpose of slightly throttling exhaust during broaching stroke to provide
a cushion at rear end of cylinder and thus prevent pulsation of ran with intermitt"
ent load as broach teeth entor and leave the work,
should not allow pressure gauge to shov/ more than 100 lbs.
The adjustment cf this valve
per square inch when ram
is moving in direction for broaching but without broach.
To make sure that gusher coolant pump is revolving in proper direction, small
screw on top of motor should bo removed and a match or pencil point inserted to
contact end of rotating shaft. Front knock-off dog A-1114-A automatically stops
travel of ram at end of return stroke. This dog should always be kept in proper
location to got minimum distance of 7
n from face of plate to face of vertical head,
as indicated on enclosed blue print. Adjustable knock-off dog B-1373 is for tho
purpose
of
stopping travel of ran at end of broaching ..stroke and may be set for any
length of broach used with this machine. To obtain maximum travel of ram this ad
justable dog is swung clear so that roar knock-off dog B-1374 will stop rat a.t ex
treme end of maximum stroke*
Hydraulic
oil must have 150 seconds Saybolt Universal Viscosity at 100°F*
