Landis Type 1R 30° angular
wheelhead plain grinder will:
a grind diameters and faces or shoulders at the same
time
d
grind multidiameter workpieces
■ grind straight or profiled diameters
*
Advantages
b
machine is tooled for high production grinding of
identical workpieces
h
eliminates extra grinding operations
b
saves work handling time
b
live spindle universal type headstock gives machine
capability to
grind work that must be held in a chuck
or special fixture
Performance
:
-
:
■
b
will grind round to less than 25 millionths
b
will hold size to less than 50 millionths
b
will grind to less than 2 micro inch finish

HEADSTOCK-workpieces ground on this headstock
can be round to less than 25 millionths
■ live spindle operation for grinding on centers, or in
a chuck or special fixture
■ spindle bearings have constant and self-adjusting
preload
■ special thermal barrier motor
■ belt driven for smooth rotation and adequate torque
at low speeds
■ start, stop and jog by control lever
FOOTSTOCK—preloaded ball sleeve footstock
improves roundness, straightness and size control
■
Preloaded ball sleeve design eliminates clearance
normally required for sliding fit of footstock spindle.
Never requires take-up for wear
■
Hardened steel spindle is mounted in precision balls
which
are contained in hardened steel bushings.
This is a preloaded interference fit
■ Allows axial movement of spindle with no radial
clearance
plate to eliminate taper
greatly
■ Quick acting lever control for center movement-
work center force is adjustable
HARD FILM MICROSPHERE wheel spindle bear
ings—rounder work, improved finishes, better size
control
■ guaranteed for the life of the machine in the hands
of the original purchaser with normal care and main
tenance
■
high oil film preload resists normal wheel unbalance,
keeps spindle rotating on its geometric axis
■
displacement of the spindle due to grinding load or
wheel unbalance is confined to low millionths
WHEELHEAD—a self-contained unit which includes
spindle, wheelfeed, drive motor, lubricating pump,
isolated oil reservoir and pressure switch
■ machined on all sides for precise mounting of wheel-
head components
■ V and flatways machined integral with the wheelhead
■ dynamically balanced 3 or 5 hp wheel spindle motor

HYDRAULIC INFEED
■ 1" rapid feed, grinding feed and
sparkout
■ turning handwheel indicates rate
and amount of grinding feed
■ grinding feed rate adjustable by
dial control
■ stock removal range, adjustable
to 0.090" on diameter, is auto
matically reset at end of cycle
■
automatic start and stop of head-
stock
■ stock removal feed automatically
resets in conjunction with reset
of rapid feed
i
MICROFEED
■ a mechanical device that ad
vances the wheelhead in incre
ments of 50 millionths after
sparkout
■ Microfeed advances the wheel-
head until finish size is indicated
on an in-process gage applied to
the workpiece during the grind
ing
operation
■ Microfeed automatically compen
sates for all grinding variables
that affect
ness of the workpiece
size, finish and round
Page 7

LATERAL LOCATOR
■ used for single purpose grinding
when the table needs to be trav
ersed slightly to properly posi
tion the workpiece for plunge
grinding faces and diameters
■ bed mounted with 0.0001" indi
cator
for accurate manual posi
tioning

TRUFORM DRESSER
■
exactly duplicates the form of
the profile bar on the grinding
wheel
■
mounted back of the grinding
wheel
■
dressing is automatically initi
ated after a preselected number
of workpieces have been ground
1
JT
■ automatic compensating feed
advances wheelhead to compen
sate for reduction in wheel diam
eter
from dressing
■
coolant is supplied through the
diamond bar to the diamond
■ preloaded ball slide eliminates
shake

Other 1R Features That Assure
Higher Productivity, Less Downtime
Operator controls are located front and center for
easiest operation
Eye level wheelfeed permits easy
reduces errors
Swivel table and carriage. For accurate response to
swivel adjustments, swivel stud is mounted in tapered
antifriction bearings adjusted to zero clearance
Landis No-Float carriage lubrication for greater carriage
stability
No oil cups or grease fittings on the 1R grinders—
lubrication and maintenance time is practically eliminated
operation, saves time,
Hydraulic reservoir is mounted on an extension of the
bed at the rear to cut down heat transfer to machine
and to maintain machine alignment
Wheelhead ways are automatically lubricated with
filtered oil at each feed cycle
Coolant system has independent coolant tank which
can be rolled away from machine for easy cleanout
Automatic lubrication system for wheel spindle
has separate pump, reservoir and pressure switch
protection
