WA TER DEMINERALIZER
MODEL PXL · CODE 1129
IN TRO DUC TION
The Model PXL Demineralizer is designed to produce a large volume of
high quality demineralized water. The demineralizer has a faucet adapter
that easily connects to any faucet. As water passes through the column,
all cations and anions are exchanged by or absorbed onto the mixed-bed
resin to produce laboratory-quality demineralized water. The Model PXL
will demineralize about 50 gallons of water of average mineral content
before the resin requires replacement. The mixed-bed ion exchange
resin has an internal indicator which exhibits a color change when the
resin nears exhaustion. Replace the resin as soon as it begins to exhibit
an amber color. To order replacement resin, use Code R-1129.
NOTE: This softener DOES NOT yield water suitable for drinking.
IN STRUC TIONS FOR USE
1. Connect adapter on inlet hose to faucet. Fully open clamp on inlet
hose. Slowly turn on faucet. Adjust the flow of water into softener
chamber until the stream of water is about 1/8 inch in diameter.
2. Fill chamber until a one-inch layer of water is visible over resin
column, then unclamp effluent hose at bottom of demineralizer. Let
effluent run to waste for about 3 minutes to wash out residues from
the previous water sample. During this time, adjust flow from faucet
to maintain the one-inch water level over resin column.
NOTE: If demineralizer was stored with a one-inch layer of water
over resin, unclamp effluent hose as soon as faucet is turned on.
3. After the first volume of effluent has been discarded, start
collection of the demineralized effluent in a suitable container.
4. After a sufficient amount of demineralized water has been collected,
turn off faucet and clamp outlet hose. If demineralizer is to be
stored unused for any length of time, maintain a one-inch layer of
water over resin column to prevent resin from drying and cracking.
5. After demineralizer is disconnected from faucet, clamp inlet hose.
RE PLACE MENT OF RESIN
For best quality demineralized water, replace resin as soon as existing
resin begins to exhibit an amber color. For many practical applications,
unit will continue to produce good quality demineralized water until
most of resin has changed color.
1. Disconnect demineralizer from faucet.
2. Remove plug from top of demineralizer.
3. Unclamp outlet hose and turn demineralizer upside down, allowing
the exhausted resin and water to run to waste.
4. Add more water to the column and shake the column to remove
remaining resin.
5. Use a funnel to add the fresh resin to the column. Tap water may
be added to the resin in the funnel to facilitate filling of the
column.
6. Continue adding resin to column until the resin bed is about 2
inches from top of column. Allow the excess water to drain from
outlet hose.
7. Replace plug in top of column.
8. Connect demineralizer to faucet and proceed with normal use.
