PRO CE DURE
1. Fill test tube (0271) to 40 mL line with sample. NOTE: If sample is cloudy, filter before testing.
2. Add 1 drop of *Phenolphthalein Indicator, 1% (2246). If solution turns pink, add Sulfuric Acid, 0.2N (6289WT) dropwise until solution turns colorless. If colorless, proceed to Step 3.
3. Fill Direct Reading Titrator (0376) with *Sodium Hydroxide, 0.2N (5168). While gently swirling tube, add *Sodium Hydroxide, 0.2N until solution turns pink.
4. Use a 1.0 pipet (0354) to add 2.0 mL (two measures) of *Sulfuric Acid, 0.2N (6289). Solution will be colorless.
5. Use the 1.0g spoon (0697) to add 1 level measure of Glutaraldehyde Test Powder (7114). Cap and shake gently for 40 seconds.
6. Refill Direct Reading (0376) with *Sodium Hydroxide, 0.2N (5168).
7. While gently swirling test tube, slowly depress plunger until the pink
color appears and lasts for 30 seconds. Read the test result directly from the scale where the large ring on the Titrator meets the Titrator barrel. Record amount used.
8. Repeat procedure using a distilled water blank.
9. Subtract test result from blank. Multiply by 250. Record as ppm
Glutaraldehyde.
ppm Glutaraldehyde = (B – A) (250)
B = mL NaOH used for blank
A = mL NaOH used for sample
