PRO CE DURE
1 drop = 0.1%
1. Fill test tube (0715) to 5 mL line with sample.
2. Add one drop of *Phenolphthalein Indicator, 0.5% (2258). Mix.
3. While gently swirling tube, add *Sodium Hydroxide, 2.4N (5648)
one drop at a time until solution turns pink. Count the number of
drops added. Hold bottle vertically.
4. Multiply the number of drops used in Step 3 by 0.1. Record as %
Phosphoric Acid or Sulfuric Acid.
To receive result as % hydrochloric acid, multiply number of drops
used in Step 3 by 0.076. Record as % Hydrochloric Acid.
1 drop = 1%
1. Use 0.5 mL pipet (0353) to add 0.5 mL of sample to test tube (0715).
2. Dilute to 5 mL line with tap water.
3. Add one drop of *Phenolphthalein Indicator, 0.5% (2258). Mix.
4. While gently swirling tube, add *Sodium Hydroxide, 2.4N (5648)
one drop at a time until solution turns pink. Count the number of
drops added. Hold bottle vertically.
5. Multiply the number of drops used in Step 4 by 1. Record as %
Phosphoric Acid or Sulfuric Acid.
To receive result as % hydrochloric acid, multiply number of drops
used in Step 3 by 0.76. Record as % Hydrochloric Acid.
