Installation Instructions
The Discadoo has a rigid dome and at base with a mounting pad to accommodate slight variations in mounting surfaces. Thus, for proper installation and best performance the antenna should be mounted on the highest at surface of the vehicle. Caution: For proper performance the mounting area must be free of metal obstructions within 4” above or beside the antenna. An adequate metal ground plane must also be provided by the vehicle (approx. 8” circumference) under the Discadoo.
Mounting Instructions:
To determine if a location is at, lay a ruler or other straight edge across the surface. There should be little or no gap between the straight edge and the surface over a span of 4 inches. The mounting
surface must be cleaned thoroughly prior to application.
diameter coax. This allows the coax to make a sharp turn for mounting under headliners without putting pressure on the antenna’s adhesive mounting. It also permits the installer to run the shortest required length of low-loss coax from the pigtail to the transmitter. Maintaining short runs of low-loss cable are very important at high frequencies. When you have decided on a mounting location, mark the center of the location and drill a 5/8” diameter hole. Clean the surface around the hole with a detergent cleaner and follow with a solvent wipe. Let surface dry thoroughly before continuing. Insert the cable and the connector through the hole. Remove the backing material from the foam base of the antenna and press the antenna rmly into place.

Pigtail Mount Side Exit: Looking at the bottom of the unit there is a black line on the protective paper on the foam backing. This line extends from
the center of the housing to the edge. With a razor knife, trim away on both sides of this line to create a slot that lines up with the hidden groove under it. Now remove the caulking material that lls the hidden groove. The coax will lay in the groove when the antenna is installed on any at surface.
Hole Mount: When you have decided on a mounting location, mark the center of the locations and drill an 3/4” hole with the
X-ACT™ HS34 hole saw. Then, using a MB8 mounting kit, screw the show a DC short on the pigtail version and a DC open on the NMO version when measured with an OHM meter between ground and center conductor.

No Ground Plane Model: The no ground plane antenna’s tuning is strongly affected by any metal in the area of the antenna, above, adjacent to or
below it. The same applies to how the coax is draped as it leaves the antenna. Use a wattmeter or other SWR analyzer, take care to position the antenna free from obstructions, and adjust the coax to drape for the best possible installation.
Note: The Discadoo™ can be painted with nonmetallic paint to match any car or to mount in a building, on a wall or on a ceiling.
Warranty: Laird Technologies warrants to the original purchaser that our antennas will
