LTM-5000FS
Blue Flame Pro IEEE 1394 (DV) Bidirectional Media Converter
The LTM-5000FS delivers the world of DV to your desktop, and can add new life to non-compatible DV equipment. Its a state-of-the-art Analog A/V to IEEE 1394 FireWire® signal converter. It is designed to interface with all standard NTSC & PAL compatible equipment. The LTM-5000FS also works bidirectionally for converting DV signals to Analog. The unit accepts YC or Composite video and 2 channel balanced audio and converts it into 100Mbps IEEE1394 DV signals. Front panel controls allow audio level control and VU metering of input audio signals. Balanced audio signals are also converted to unbal-
anced signals for standard amplifier monitoring. The LTM-5000FS is housed in a 1RU cabinet.
FEATURES
The LTM-5000FS will accept NTSC/PAL composite signals or Y/C signals.
Dual channel Balanced (XLR) audio signals can be fed to the L TM-5000FS. An unbalanced high impedance line level pair of outputs is provided for both input and output audio signals. These signals can be fed to standard power amplifier or powered speakers for monitoring purposes.
A front panel LED VU display is provided for monitoring of audio levels in either direction. The LED VU METER automatically tracks the audio signals in either mode of operation of the unit.
Front panel controls allow the adjustment of audio levels entering the unit. This allows the LTM-5000FS to be interfaced with various equipment signal levels.
The LTM-5000FS has two selectable audio encoding sampling rates: 32 KHz or 48 KHz.
A front panel switch allows the user to select either Composite video or YC video. In the DV to analog mode, the LTM-5000FS outputs both Composite and YC video simultaneously.
A front panel switch allows the user to select either NTSC or PAL operation.
The LTM-5000FS is housed in a 1RU(1.75) standard EIA rackmount metal cabinet.
The LTM-5000FS uses an automatic 110/220, 50/60 Hz power supply. The unit will automatically work in either 110VAC or 220VAC

ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE
The LTM-5000FS is designed with thermally stabilized solid state components. However, it should be placed in a cool dry environment that does not exceed the data posted on the specification sheets of the manual.
The LTM-5000FS is perfect where it is desired to convert a standard VTR (Consumer or Professional) to DV. The LTM-5000FS will perfectly interface with such machines and act as a DV I/O port for older or non-DV equipment.
The basic block diagram below shows standard connections for interfacing VTRs with the LTM-5000FS and DV equipment. Carefully study the drawings and determine which one best fits your needs. Please be sure to observe all 75-Ohm signal termination rules for system hookups. The LTM-5000FS does not provide a looping video input: the signals connected are terminated internally.

Once the proper cables have been connected turn the unit on using the front panel power switch. Please be patient as the unit will take up to 5-10 seconds to power up.
The LTM-5000FS conducts a self-diagnostic routine and then turns on the electronics and sets the unit in DIGITAL (DV) to ANALOG mode. Once the ANALOG LED above the associated pushbutton has been illuminated, the unit is ready to operate.
NTSC/PAL Operation Note: To Switch Standards:Power down the unit, change selector switch to NTSC or PAL and then
power up unit.
By pressing the INPUT button the DV LED above it will illuminate. This indicates that the LTM-5000FS is now in DV to Analog Mode of conversion. In this mode, DV signals entering the unit via the 4pin DV port are converted to analog audio and video signals, which are available via the rear output connectors.
Video is provided in YC and Composite video simultaneously. Audio is provided to the dual Male XLRs on the rear panel. At the same time,an unbalanced high impedance signal is provided to the two RCA connectors located adjacent to the output XLRs.

HANDLING NOTE: IEEE1394 CABLES MUST BE HANDLED CAREFULLY:DO NOT FORCE THE CONNECTOR UNDER ANY CIR-
CUMSTANCES. OBSERVE THE HOUSING POLARITY WHEN CONNECTING OR REMOVING THESE CABLES FROM EQUIPPED DEVICES.
The single IEEE1394 (Firewire) 4 pin port functions as a bi-directional DV port. Connect a IEEE1394 4 pin cable between this port and your DV device: Standard devices are DV cameras, DV VTRs and DV equipped Computers. NOTE: THE LTM5000FS IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH IEEE1394 HARDWARE PERIPHERALS SUCH AS: HARD DRIVES, SCANNERS, PRINTERS OR ANY OTHER SIMILAR DEVICE. IT IS DESIGNED FOR MEDIA DEVICES ONLY,AND OPERATES AT 100Mbps ONLY.

In this mode the selected video (YC or Composite; NTSC or PAL) signal is fed to the unit for conversion to DV. In addition, the option of audio encoding rates are available by simply pressing the front panel audio encode button. The LED above the switch will indicate the selected audio encode rate of either 32 or 48 KHz. The LED above the Input Switch indicates that the Analog to DV mode is operational. At this point the converted DV signal is provided to the connected DV equipped device. The front panel VU LEDS will monitor the converted audio signals. The LED meter displays dBVu (Volume Units) and is factory calibrated at 0dBVu.
