Safety
WARNING! For Your Own Safety Read Instruction Manual before Operating Tablesaw.
(a) DANGER – Never place your hands in the vicinity or in line with the s aw blade.
(b) WARNING – "Wear eye protection" or the s ign M004 of ISO 7010.
(c) WARNING – Always use a properly functioning saw-blade guard, riving knife and anti-kickback device for
every operation for which it can be used, inc luding all through sawing.
(d) WARNING – Use a pus h-stick or push-block when required.
(e) WARNING – Do not perform any operation freehand.
(f) WARNING – Pay particular attention to instructions on reducing risk of kickback .
(g) WARNING – Never reach around or over saw blade.
(H) WARNING – Turn off tool and wait for saw blade to stop before moving workpiece or changing settings.
(I) WARNING – Never stand directly in line with the saw blade. Always position your body on the same side
of the saw blade as the fence.
In addition, use hearing protection and wear gloves whe n handling saw blades.
Guarding Related Warnings
1. Keep guards in place . Guards must be in working order and be properly mounted. A guard that is loose,
damaged, or is not functioning correctly must be repaired or replaced.
2. Always use s aw blade guard, riving knife and anti-kickback device for every through-cutting operation. For
through-cutting operations where the s aw blade cuts completely through the thick ness of the workpiec e,
the guard and other safet y devices help reduc e the risk of injury.
3. Immediately reattach the guarding syst em after completing an operation (such as rabbe ting, dadoing or
resawing cuts ) which requires removal of the guard, riving knife and/or anti-kickback device. The guard,
riving knife, and anti-kickback device help to reduce the risk of injury.
4. Make s ure the saw blade is not contac ting the guard, riving knife or the workpiece before the s witch is
turned on. Inadvertent contact of these item s with the saw blade could cau se a hazardous condition.
5. Adjust the riving knife as des cribed in this instruction manual. Incorrect spacing, positioning and
alignment can mak e the riving knife ineffective in reducing the likelihood of kickback.
6. For the riving knife and anti-kickback device to work, they must be engaged in the work piece. The riving
knife and anti-kickbac k device are ineffective when cu tting workpieces that are too s hort to be engaged
with the riving knife and anti-kickback device. Under these conditions a kic kback cannot be prevente d by
the riving knife and antikickbac k device.
7. Use the a ppropriate saw blade for the riving knife. For the riving knife to function properly, the saw blade
diameter must ma tch the appropriate riving knife and the body of the saw blade must be thinne r than the
thicknes s of the riving knife and the cutting width of the saw blade mus t be wider than the thickne ss of
the riving knife.
Cutting Procedures Warnings
1. DANGER: Never place your fingers or hands in the vicinity or in line with the saw blade. A moment of
inattention or a slip could direct your hand towards the sa w blade and result in serious personal injury.
2. Feed the work piece into the saw blade or cutter only against the direction of rotation. Feeding the
workpiece in the same direction that the saw blade is rotating above the table may result in the
workpiece, and your hand, being pulled into the saw blade.
3. Never use the mitre gauge to fee d the workpiece whe n ripping and do not use the rip fence a s a length
stop when cros s cutting with the mitre gauge. Guiding the workpiece with the rip fence and the mitre
gauge at the sa me time increases the likelihood of saw blade binding and kickback.
4. When ripping, always apply the workpiece feeding force between the fenc e and the saw blade. Use a
push stick when the distance be tween the fence an d the saw blade is less t han 150 mm, and use a push
block when this distance is less than 50 mm. "Work helping" devices will keep your hand at a safe
distance from the s aw blade.
5. Use only the push s tick provided by the manufacturer or constructed in ac cordance with the instructions .
This push stick provides sufficient distanc e of the hand from the saw blade.
6. Never use a damaged or cut pus h stick. A damaged push s tick may break caus ing your hand to slip into
the saw blade.
7. Do not perform any operation "freehand". Always use e ither the rip fence or the mitre gauge to position
and guide the workpiec e. "Freehand" means using your hands to s upport or guide the workpiec e, in lieu of
a rip fence or mitre gauge. Freehand s awing leads to misalignment, binding and kickbac k.
8. Never reach around or over a rotating saw blade. Reac hing for a workpiece m ay lead to accidental
contact with the moving saw blade.
9. Provide auxiliary workpiece s upport to the rear and/or sides of the saw table for long and/or wide
workpieces to keep them level. A long and/or wide workpiece has a tendency to pivot on the table’s edge,
causing loss of control, s aw blade binding and kickback.
10. Feed workpiec e at an even pace. Do not bend or twist the work piece. If jamming occurs, turn the tool off
immediately, unplug the tool then clear the jam . Jamming the saw blade by the workpiece can ca use
kickbac k or stall the motor.
11. Do not remove pieces of cut-off material while the s aw is running. The material may become trapped
between the fence or inside the saw blade guard an d the saw blade pulling your fingers into the saw
blade. Turn the saw off and wait until the saw blade s tops before removing material.
12. Use an auxiliary fence in contact w ith the table top when ripping workpieces les s than 2 mm thick. A thin
workpiece ma y wedge under the rip fence and creat e a kickback .
Kickback Causes and Related Warnings
Kickbac k is a sudden reaction of the w orkpiece due to a pinched, jammed s aw blade or misaligned line of cut
in the workpiece with respect to the sa w blade or when a part of the workpiece binds between the saw blade
and the rip fence or other fixed object.
Most frequently during kickbac k, the workpiec e is lifted from the table by the rear portion of the saw blade and
is propelled towards the operator.
Kickbac k is the result of saw m isuse and/or incorrect operating procedure s or conditions and can be avoided
by taking proper precautions as given below.
1. Never stand directly in line with the saw blade. Always position your body on the same s ide of the saw
blade as the fenc e. Kickback may propel the work piece at high velocity towards anyone standing in front
and in line with the saw blade.
2. Never reach over or in back of the saw blade to pull or to support the workpiec e. Accidental contact with
the saw blade m ay occur or kickback m ay drag your fingers into the saw blade.
3. Never hold and press the workpiec e that is being cut off against the rotating saw blade. Pressing the
workpiece be ing cut off against the saw blade will create a binding condition and kickback .
4. Align the fence to be parallel with the s aw blade. A misaligned fence will pinch the workpiec e against the
saw blade and cre ate kickback .
5. Use a feath er-board to guide the workpiece against the table and fence wh en making non-through cuts
such as rabbeting, dadoing or resawing cuts. A feather-board helps to control the workpiec e in the event
of a kickbac k.
6. Use extra caution whe n making a cut into blind areas of asse mbled workpieces. The protruding saw
blade may cut objects tha t can cause k ickback.
7. Support large panels to minimize the risk of saw blade pinching and k ickback. Large panels t end to sag
under their own weight. Support(s) must be place d under all portions of the panel overhanging the table
top.
8. Use extra caution whe n cutting a workpiece that is twisted, knotted, w arped or does not have a straight
edge to guide it with a mitre gauge or along the fenc e. A warped, knotted, or twiste d workpiece is
unstable and caus es misalignment of the ke rf with the saw blade, binding and kickba ck.
9. Never cut more than one workpiec e, stacke d vertically or horizontally. The saw blade could pick up one or
more pieces a nd cause kickba ck.
10. When restarting the saw with the saw blade in the workpiece, cent er the saw blade in the ke rf so that the
saw tee th are not engaged in the material. If the saw blade binds, it may lift up the workpiec e and cause
kickbac k when the saw is restarted.
11. Keep sa w blades clean, sharp, and with sufficient set. Never use warped s aw blades or saw blades with
cracke d or broken teeth. Sharp and properly set saw blades minimize binding, stalling and kickbac k.
Tablesaw Operating Procedure Warnings
1. Turn off the table saw and disconnec t the power cord when removing the table inse rt, changing the saw
blade or making adjustments to the riving knife, anti-kickback device or s aw blade guard, and when the
machine is left unatte nded. Precautionary measures w ill avoid accidents.
2. Never leave the table saw running unatte nded. Turn it off and don’t leave the tool until it comes to a
complete stop. An unatten ded running saw is an uncontrolled hazard.
