PUMP INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION
• This pump can be used in ornamental ponds with water containing suspended particles with a maximum diameter of 3/4” (20 mm).
• This pump may be used as a submersible pump for pumping water at temperatures no higher than 35°C (95°F).
• This pump cannot be used for drinkable liquids, sea water, or inflammable, corrosive, explosive or dangerous liquids.
• The motor unit and electrical connections are hermetically sealed with inert epoxy to ensure safe and lasting operation under extreme water conditions. The pump is completely submersible and designed to run continuously in fresh water.
WARNING: Always unplug or disconnect all appliances in the pond from the electrical supply before installing, repairing, maintaining or handling the equipment in the water. Important: To achieve the best pump operation, always use the largest bore hose possible. Avoid sharp bends in the hosing; gradual curves are preferred.
PUMP OPERATION
The pump can operate in Automatic mode or Manual mode, by means of the switch shown in Fig. 1.
Automatic Mode
The pump has an innovative integrated electronic control system. When the water reaches the switch level
(7”/18,5 cm from the base), the electronic control system automatically starts the pump. When the water goes below the switch level, the electronic control system automatically stops the pump within 2 minutes.
Manual Mode
The pump runs continuously and the integrated automatic switch level is disabled. The electronic control system is active to check the correct functioning of the pump.In this mode, the pump will not stop automatically when the water supply runs out.To prevent the pump from running dry, do not operate the pump when the water level is below the minimum water level. The minimum water level is 1”or 2,3 cm from the bottom of the pump.
Anti-blockage Daily Start (ADS): Important: When the pump is plugged in and it is operating in automatic
mode, during periods of inactivity as a result of the water being below the automatic start level, the pump will start once a day for a few seconds to avoid possible shaft blockage due to dirt (limestone) build-up.
Automatic stop feature
The pump also features special sensor devices that stop the pump in case of irregular operation of the impeller due to such conditions as a blocked rotor.
POSITIONING THE PUMP
Always make sure that the pump is placed on a flat and level surface, in a stable and vertical position, with maximum inclination of 15°.
In order to prevent the pump from sucking up dirt directly from the pond bottom, we recommend that you install it on an elevated surface that is at least 4” (10 cm) from the pond bottom.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Do not plug in the pump before it is correctly and fully installed.
1. Screw the supplied hose adapter onto the threaded pump outlet and tighten by hand. Note for 120V/60 Hz model only: apply teflon tape (not included) to the threaded pump outlet.
2. Connect a flexible hose (not included) to the hose adapter, according to your requirement.
3. Select Automatic mode or Manual mode, using the switch at the top of the pump.
4. Place the pump in the pond, on a flat and level surface and in a stable and vertical position.
5. Plug in the pump.
WARNING: Place the pump in such a way that the fish cannot be drawn into the intake openings located at the base of the pump.
Impeller Maintenance
NOTE: The pump motor includes a high quality ceramic shaft that provides long-lasting, reliable performance when properly maintained. However, extreme care should be taken when handling the shaft during maintenance. Avoid dropping or pressing too hard on it to avoid breakage or hairline fractures, which may cause the shaft to snap while in operation.
CLEANING AND MAINTAINING THE PUMP
WARNING: Always unplug or disconnect all appliances in the pond from the electrical supply before installing, repairing, maintaining or handling the equipment in the water.
To avoid shortening the lifespan of the pump, follo w these simples maintenance procedures:
1. Once a week, verify that the pump performance is satisfactory. If you detect decreasing pump performance, clean the impeller, impeller well and impeller cover, following the instructions below.
2. Using a Phillips (cross-headed) screwdriver, unscrew the screw at the base of the pump (Fig. 2). Remove the base from the bottom of the pump (Fig.3).
3. Unscrew the four screws on the impeller cover (Fig. 4) and remove the cover (Fig.5).
4. Remove the impeller assembly by grasping the impeller and pulling out (Fig. 6).
5. Clean all parts indicated in Fig. 7 and 8 in clean water only, using a small,
non-abrasive brush, if necessary.DO NOT USE DETERGENTS OR OTHER CHEMICAL CLEANERS, which could damage the pump and pollute the pond.
6. Reassemble all components with care, by first placing the impeller assembly, then the impeller cover, and, lastly, the pump bas
e (Fig. 9). Be sure that all components are aligned as shown in Fig. 9.Ensure that the O-ring is correctly placed at the bottom of the impeller cover (Fig. 10). Ensure that the slots shown in Fig.11 are aligned and then fasten the base with its proper screw, as per Step 2, Fig 2.
In the event the impeller wears out or is damaged, replace it with an identical one. Do not carry out operations other than those written in the instructions.
REPLACING THE BUSHING AND O-RING
(Replacement pack not included. Part # PT-467) Though the bushing is made of very resistant material, it is prone to wearing in certain
conditions. For this reason,it is recommended that you replace it whenever the impeller unit is replaced. Follow the instructions provided with the replacement parts package. Once you have replaced the Bushing and O-Ring, reassemble all parts with care.
WINTERIZING THE PUMP
1. Unplug and remove the pump from the pond.
2. Gently scrub off any dirt and debris with a soft nylon brush.
3. Thoroughly clean the pump as per instructions in this manual.
4. In addition, soak the impeller shaft and impeller well in white vinegar for 24 hours, then rinse off with water. This procedure will remove calcium and other mineral deposits from the impeller shaft. If these deposits are not removed they may cause the shaft to bind and break when the pump is started again.
5. Lubricate all seals with Laguna Silicone Lube (sold separately/PT-595)
6. Store indoors for best results. Do not store the pump in below-freezing temperatures.
7. When re-opening your pond or water feature in the spring, submerge the pump in the pond for 1 hour prior to starting the pump.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE UK ONLY:
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONNECTION WARNING – THE PUMP LINE CORD IS SUPPLIED WITHOUT PLUG.
The pump must be connected and earthed to the appropriate plug in accordance with the following instructions.
