If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and the comp lete door drilling instructions available at ww w.kwikset.com/doorprep.

What is the diameter of the ho le in the door?
Remove battery cover and bat tery pack from interior assem bly. Install interior a ssembly onto mounting plate.
Locate screws for step 3C an d keep them within reach.
Install exterio r touchscreen and mounting plate .

Insert key and test latch. If latch does not exten d or retract smoothly, adjust screws (Q ).
Remove key when inished and make sure the latch bolt is fully extende d.

This step will teach your loc k the orientation of your door and is cruci al to lock operation.
Install 4 AA bat teries in battery pack. Make sure the door is op en, and
insert the batte ry pack.
After a few seconds , the latch bolt will retract and exten d on its own to learn the orientatio n of the door. This is called the door handin g process, and it i s crucial to lock operation.
If the touchscreen i ndicates a failure, attempt this proce dure again.
If the door handing p rocess is still unsuccessful af ter a second attempt, consult th e Programming and Troubleshooting Guide on the SmartC ode 915 page at www.kwikset. com.

During progra mming, if the screen i s not pressed for 20 seco nds, the system will ti me out (indicated by three beeps a nd the “X” pattern la shing three times), an d you will need to restar t the procedure.

4 and 8 digits duri ng your next attempt .
Make sure the lock h as room for an additio nal code. If all use r code
positions are  illed, delete a cod e to make room for this one .

If desired, t his feature can be disab led by turning switch # 4 to the o position. See “Switches” on page 4.
SecureScree n is an added-secu rity feature that displays ran dom digits before you en ter a user code to unl ock the door. This feature ensures that th ere are ingerprints o n all digits so that co des cannot be ident iied by examining the to uchscreen for ing er prints.
Each user cod e must be a unique code between 4 and 8 d igits.
*Beeping s ound will only be heard if sw itch #3 (on the lock interior) is in th e on positon. See “Sw itches and Status LED Col ors” on page 4.
Mastercode
For enhanced security, a maste rcode may be used when adding and del eting user codes. For more information abo ut the mastercode, download the Programmi ng and Troubleshooting Guide on the Smart Code 915 page at www.kwikset .com.

Re-key the lock to work with your existing key. See the supplied SmartKey Re-key instruction s for more information.

CAUTION: Prevent unauthorized entry. Since anyone with access to the back panel
can change the user codes, you must restrict access to the back panel and routinely check the user codes to ensure they have not been altered without your knowledge. The use of a mastercode can help protect your system’s settings.
