Prepare your door
Determine the parts needed for your door
Make sure your exist ing deadbolt is comp atible. If you have a stan dard deadbolt moun ted separately from th e handle below it, it is c ompatible with Kwikset Co nvert.
Make sure your doo r is aligned before proceeding with installation.

Make sure your doo r is open and extend your latch b olt. Make sure your key is NOT in the deadbo lt exterior.

Measure to con irm that your door is eith er 13/8" or 13/4" (35 m m or 44 mm) thick.

You should be abl e to lock and unlock your door smoothly without any res istance, and without pushing, pulling or lifting you r door.

Install the mounting plate and test your latch

Note: A D-shap ed torque blade is shown, but in stallation is the same for all mod els.

Place the mounting plate on th e door so that the torque blade insert s through the center hole.
Kwikset & Weiser On ly:
To determine which mounting screws to use, test o ne of the thicker screws irst .
If the thicker screw its , continue installing the thicker s crews. If the thicker screw doesn' t it, install the thinne r screws.
Remove the masking tape fro m the exterior deadbolt, and i nsert your key and test the latch for smo oth operation.
Remove your key and make sure the bolt is fu lly extended.

If the latch does n ot extend or retract smoothly, adjust t he mounting screws.

Tighten screws evenly.
Secure the mounting plate with th e mounting screws.

Install the interior assembly

Secure with two (2) inte rior assembly screws.

Align the adapter with the torq ue blade and push the interior as sembly onto the mounting plate.
Schlage Deadbolts Only:
You may need to rotate the adapter to align with the torque blade.

Add the lock to your smart home system
window
If you wish to unlock the window, you can slide it up for more convenient access to the programming buttons while the cover is installed.
To unlock the window, remove the security screw.
The window on the interior cover is locked by default to prevent someone from tampering with your lock's settings.
Important Information about th e interior cover

Note: You may need to rotate the turnpie ce to align with the turnpie ce shaft.

Check the Status LED
This step will teach the loc k the orientation of your door and is crucia l for lock operation.

The Status LED blinks every s ix seconds to communicate whether the door is lo cked or unlocked.
Use your key to lock and unlo ck your door, and verify that the Status LED is communicatin g correctly.
If the Status LED is displaying the wro ng door lock status, lip switch # 4 to the ON position.

Install 4 AA ba tteries in the battery p ack.
Ensure correc t polarity.
For best resul ts, use new, non-rechargeable Alkaline batteries o nly.
Make sure the door i s open. Insert th e battery pack while PRESSI NG AND HOLD ING the Program but ton.
Keep pressing th e button for three seco nds after the battery pac k is installed, the n release the button .
The Status LED will  lash red and green, and th e lock will beep.
Press and re lease the Prog ram button again.
The latch bolt will re tract and extend on its own to learn the orien tation of the door. Did the Status LED turn gree n or red?
If the bolt doe s not move, make sure the batterie s are installed correc tly, and perform ste ps 5A5D again.

BALDWIN ESTATE DEADBOLTS:
If your latch bolt is to the RIGH T of your interior assembly, and the Status LED is solid red af ter door handing, press a nd release the Program button again. The door handing process wi ll restart.
If you are unsure if your lock i s Baldwin Estate, see chart on page 1 or com patible deadbolt list online.

If the Status LED is solid red a fter door handing, make sure the batteries are inst alled correctly and the lock interio r is correctly install ed. Perform steps 5A5D again.

Initiate the process to ad d the lock to your system at your smar t home controller. Refer to your smart home system in structions for more inform ation.
When prompted by your sm art home system to add the lock, press but ton “A” on the lock interior one tim e. The red LED will illuminate when th e lock enters Add Mode.
If successful, re -name the lock in your system (if applicable).
If unsuccessful , follow your system's instructions to remove the lock from the control ler and any other network, then pres s button “A” on the lock one time.
Perform steps 7A7C again.
If still unsucces sful, see "Troubleshooting: Addi ng the Lock to a Smart Ho me System" on page 4.

These features c an be adjusted in som e smart home apps .
Factory Reset
A factory reset will re move your lock from your smart home system .
Some ZWave® systems require that the lock be with in 12" of the controller during the addin g process. If this is th e case, follow the steps below to rem ove the lock interior from the door to perform the proce ss closer to the controller:
1. Remove the small screws that se cure the interior assembly to th e mounting plate.
2. Rem ove the interior assembly from the door. 3. H old the interior assembly a maximum of 12 " (305 mm) from your smart home contro ller for the rest of this process.

Keep holding the but ton
for 30 seconds until the lock beeps an d the status LED lashes re d.
3 Press the Program
button once more . When the LED lashes gree n and you hear one be ep, the lock has bee n reset.
4 Per form the door handing process
again to teach the lock th e orientation of the door a nd pair the lock to your smarthom e system.
1. Read all instructions in their entirety.
2. Familiarize yourself with all warning and caution statements.
3. Remind all family members of safety precautions.
4. Always have access to your lock’s standard key.
5. If using the Auto-Lock feature, make sure to have your standard key with you to prevent locking yourself out.
6. Replace low batteries immediately.
CAUTION: Prevent unauthorized entry. Restrict access to your lock’s back panel and
routinely check your settings to ensure they have not been altered without your knowledge.

by itself. This lock may be defeated by forcible or technical means, or evaded by entry elsewhere on the property. No lock can substitute for caution, awareness of your environment, and common sense. Builder’s hardware is available in multiple performance grades to suit the application. In order to enhance security and reduce risk, you should consult a qualiied locksmith or other security professional.

Door lock status LED blinks every 6 seconds. ON position is factory default.

Removing the lock from the network
Follow your smart h ome system’s instructi ons to remove the lock from t he network. When prompted by the sys tem, press button A” on the lock interior once.
Please allow time for the con troller to add the lock.

4. Initiate the proc ess to add the lock to your system at your smart home co ntroller. Refer to your smart home system instruct ions for more information.
5. Whe n prompted by your smart home syste m to add the lock, press but ton “A” on the lock interior one tim e. The red LED will illuminate when th e lock enters Add Mode.
6. Once succes sful, re-name the lock in your system (if applica ble). Then, reinstall the lock interior on the inte rior assembly.
