Congratulations! You have chosen the KVH TracNet™100 Mobile Internet Receiver, your gateway to Microsoft’s MSN
®
TV service and the Internet when you’re on the go. This guide provides basic setup instructions to get you up and running in just a few minutes.
For detailed installation, setup, and troubleshooting information, refer to the
TracNet 100 User’s Guide
. For complete instructions on using the MSN TV service, refer to the
MSN TV User Guide
.
The EVDO card provides the cellular link to Verizon’s broadband network. Ensure power is not connected to the TracNet 100 receiver. Then insert the EVDO card into the receiver’s PC card slot. The metal bracket beneath the slot will help protect the card.
The external antenna and booster amplify the cell signal to improve performance. Four different antenna kits are available. Refer to Section 2.3 of the
User’s Guide
for installation details for your
particular model.
Antenna installation tips:
Mount the antenna in the highest possible location, away from any obstructions or other antennas.
Seal the cable access hole with silicone sealant or equivalent (if applicable).
1. Pull back the rubber cover on the back of the EVDO card to access the antenna ports. Plug the cell adapter cable into the right-hand port.
2. Connect the other end of the cell adapter cable to the booster’s “Cell Phone” jack.
3. Connect the antenna cable from the external antenna to the booster’s “Antenna” jack.
4. Connect the small plug end of the power “Y” cable to the booster’s “12 VDC” jack. Later, you will connect the other ends of the power cable to the receiver and vehicle/vessel power.
5. Set the booster’s On/Off switch to “On.”
The MSN TV wireless keyboard and remote control need to point at the receiver’s IR eye to send commands. The IR extender allows you to mount the eye remotely and hide the receiver in a cabinet.
1. Plug the IR extender cable into the receiver’s “IR Extender Input” jack.
2. Position the IR extender’s eye in a location within direct line-of-sight to the wireless devices.
TracNet 100 comes with standard audio/video cables.
(If your TV has an S-Video or VGA jack, you
may use those jacks on the receiver instead.)
1. Connect the red and white cables from the receiver’s “Audio R” and “Audio L” jacks to your TV’s audio inputs.
2. Connect the yellow cable from the receiver’s “Video” jack to your TV’s video input.
The WiFi antenna allows you to connect a laptop computer wirelessly to the TracNet 100.
1. Attach the WiFi antenna to the receiver’s “Wi-Fi Antenna” jack. Screw down the base to secure.
2. Adjust the antenna upward for best reception.
The TracNet 100 receiver requires a 12 volts DC power input supporting 25 watts.
1. Connect the large plug end of the power “Y” cable to the receiver’s “Power” jack.
The small
plug end should be connected to the booster.
2. Connect the power cable’s wires to a dedicated 12 VDC circuit. Connect the black negative wire to ground, and connect the red positive wire to +12 VDC.
If installing on a car, connect the black wire to a pillar ground screw and the red wire to switched (accessory) power.
1. Remote Control: Install the two AAA batteries.
2. Keyboard: Pull the white tab on the back of the
keyboard to remove the protective plastic from the battery compartment. Four AA batteries are already installed. Remove the protective plastic from the IR window at the front of the keyboard.

To block intruders from “piggybacking” on your connection, and optimize data speeds, establish basic security settings on TracNet 100, even if you are using MSN TV. Just run the router setup wizard, which walks you through the process step-by-step.
From MSN TV Sign In Page: Go to Settings>Choose Connection Setting>Configure Router. Then select IP address 192.168.0.1 and select Access Router.
From a PC, enter http://192.168.0.1 in the browser.
When finished, turn the receiver off then back on.
Refer to Section 4.3 of the
User’s Guide
for details.
Mount the receiver in a dry, well-ventilated area away from heat sources or electrical devices that generate RF noise (e.g., microwave, plasma TV, or motor). Do not block the receiver’s vents. Ensure both front/back panels are accessible to the user.
1. Attach the two mounting brackets to the receiver’s side vents using #2-56 screws.
2. Secure the brackets to the mounting surface using appropriate
1
4" fasteners.
If you experience a problem with the TracNet 100 system, first check the following:
• Check the signal strength bars on the MSN TV screen. If you have no bars, you are outside the coverage area of the nearest cell tower.
• Check the batteries in the remote or keyboard.
• Check the connections on the receiver rear panel.
• If you are using a computer, check the computer’s network connection (enabled?).
Refer to Section 5 of the
