NOTE:
correct mount height needed, measure the thickness of the front of the passenger seat. Measure from the top of the rear fender to the top of the passenger seat as in PIC 1. Over 6 inches need the tall mounts, 6 inches and under will use the short mounts.

Locate the left and right side (sitting on bike) mounting brackets. PIC 2

Remove the saddlebags to expose the rear fender struts.
STEP 4
Remove the three OEM fasteners on the right side shown in PIC 3.
STEP 5
button socket cap screws through one of the 5/16” flat washers and into the front hole of the Fixed Mount. PIC 4 Loosely attach the Fixed Mount to the front location on the strut.
Starting with the right side Fixed Mount, insert one of the 5/16”-18 x 1”

flat washer through each rear hole of the mounting bracket. Place one of the included spacers over the threads of each screw (PIC 4) and attach the rear of the Fixed Bracket to the motorcycle. Torque the front and rear hardware to 14 FT/LBS.
Insert one of the 5/16”-18 X 2” button socket cap screws with a 5/16”

Repeat Steps 4, 5 and 6 for the left side.
STEP 8
Backrest should slide easily between the fixed mounts. If it slides in easily, proceed to Step 10. If the Backrest seems to bind or you have to spread the Fixed Mounts apart to insert the Backrest, proceed to the next Step.
Test fit the Driver/Passenger Backrest between the fixed mounts. The

bike and insert one of the remaining 5/16” flat washers between the Fixed Mount and each of the spacers and between the front of the Fixed Mount and the strut, on each button head cap screw. PIC 5 and PIC 6 Torque to 14 FT/LBS.
Remove the button head cap screws securing each Fixed Mount to the

one of the supplied (with the backrest) 5/16”-18 X 7/8” countersunk socket head cap screws through one of the supplied shoulder washers, through the Fixed Mount and threading it to the Driver/Passenger Backrest on each side. PIC 7 Torque to 15 FT/LBS. If these
fasteners are loosened or removed, see WARNING! on the next page!
Install the Driver/Passenger Backrest to the Fixed Mounts by inserting

BOTH PIVOT/HINGE SCREWS MUST HAVE THREADLOCK COMPOUND RE-APPLIED AND RE-TORQUED ONCE REMOVED
AFTER INITIAL INSTALLATION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNINTENDED LOOSENING AND MAY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE FEMALE THREADS IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE BACKREST AND THE THREADS ON THE REMOVED SCREWS WILL NEED TO BE CLEANED TO REMOVE ANY THREADLOCKER RESIDUE BEFORE RE-INSERTING. RE-APPLY LOCTITE® THREADLOCKER BLUE 242® OR EQUIVALENT, AS SHOWN IN PIC 8, RE-TORQUING TO 15 FT-LBS (20.3 NM) USING A TORQUE WRENCH AND 3/16” ALLEN/HEX KEY ATTACHMENT. LET CURE PER THE THREADLOCK MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS AFTER INSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO APPLY THREADLOCKER, THEN ORDER A NEW SERVICE KIT, (P/N 991660) WHICH WILL CONTAIN SCREWS WITH BLUE THREADLOCK ADHESIVE PRE-APPLIED.

to the straight out position. Lower or raise the backrest to the desired location. Fold the locking levers over to lock them in place. Gently rock the Backrest back and forth to ensure the locking pins are engaged in the notches in the Fixed Mounts. Repeat for the other position of the Backrest. Visually inspect the Shoulder Washers and Countersunk
Socket Head Cap Screws at the pivot point for any signs of loosening before each ride. Küryakyn requires checking all backrest attaching fasteners to the torque specifications defined in these instructions every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
NOTE: See instructions for Multi-Purpose Driver/Passenger Backrest,
P/N 1660 or P/N 1661, for adjustment procedures.
Check the operation of the Backrest by folding the locking levers (PIC 9)
