A. LEVELING THE TOOL
This tool is equipped with a lev eling device to adjust for diff er ent hitch heig hts as well as to m ake the tool level. When adjusted pr operly, t he t ool will s tay relatively level thr oughout the heig ht adjustment range.
Note: When leveled, the tool will operate more efficiently in the ground. An unleveled tool ca n
result in improper coulter or sweep function.
1. Remove the hitc h pin from the tongue and attach the t ongue to the hitch on the tow vehic le.
2. This lev eling c an be done by adjusting the top link. Unlock the loc king tab on the top link. Turning the handle on the top li nk counter-clockwise will raise the rear end o f the tool and clock-wise will lower the rear end of the tool. After adjustments are mad e, lock the top link in place. (See Figure 2.)
Note: Depending on gr ound conditi ons , slight adjus tments may need to be made after the tool
is placed in the ground at the desired depth.

B. COULTER FUNCTION
Reversible Point Chisel Sweep
9” Field Cultivator Sweep
Turning Shovel
Bevel Washer Spacers – Mount on
This model is equipped with five separate coult er s . The coulter s serve as cutt ing blades and are meant for light debris cuttin g, ground scor ing for better gr ound shatter and aiding in reduc ing clod size. If the debris is not c ut the shanks t end to collect debris and act as a rake. This in turn will prevent normal operation. In many cases 150-300lbs of added weight is v ery effec tive in helping the coulters to penetrate. If the coulters do not penetrate, t hen t he c oulters will not function as effectively. It may take slight leveling adjustments with the top link to provide goo d c oulter penetration as well as sweep depth.
C. SELECTING THE PROPER SWEEP – Refer to Fi gure 3.
This tool is equipped with two t yp es of sweeps, reversible chisel point sweep s and 9” field cultivator s weeps . Selecting the pr oper sweep is cri t i cal in helping the tool t o per f orm correctly.
The reversible c hisel point sweeps are a good choic e in hard ground c onditions. T hes e s weeps have the ability to easily penet r ate and shatter hard ground c onditions.
The 9” field cultivator sweeps ar e typically used for secondary tillage and are a good select ion to use after initially breaking hard ground wi t h the chisel point sweeps. The f i eld c ultivator sweeps also work well in s hearing off weeds . In softer gro und c onditions, these sweeps can be used for primary tillage. A bevel washer spacer is also provided with thes e s weeps. This s pac er will tip the sweep and pr ovide a steeper more aggressive angle of attack. These was her s s hould onl y be mounted on the top ho l es of the sweeps and placed between the shank and the sweep.
Note: An optional tur ning shovel kit can be purchased (Part # 0038 01). These sweeps are a
good choice when working in sod c onditions. In hard ground conditions it may be necessary to i ns tall the prov ided bevel washer spacers. These spacers will place the shovels at a s teeper more aggressive angle of attack. These washers should only be mounted on the top holes of the shovels and placed between the shank and the shovel.

The shank s and coul t er shanks hav e been designed for quic k adjustme nts. Both removal or maximum depth adjust changes c an be made ver y q uic kly. The shanks can be set at a maxi mu m depth of 2”, 4” or 6” w ith the tool fully lowered. T he c oulter shanks c an be s et at a ma ximu m depth of 2”, 3” or 4” w ith the tool fully lowered. In man y cases the tool will function better if the sweeps are set s everal inches deeper than the coulters.
Note: It is important to re-install the co ulter shanks on the proper side of the shank rec eiver.
The coulters s hould line up with the rear shank s . Improper installation can result in tire coulter interference.

E. SUGGESTIONS FOR PROPER OPERATION
Proper tool adjustment can increase funct ionality and ef f ic iency.
Hard Ground
In hard ground conditions, the revers ible point chisel sweeps sho uld be installe d. The reversible point chisel sweeps have t he ability to penetrate hard ground fairly effor tlessly without added weight. Addit ional weight is recommended to help the coulter s penetrate. This tillage tool h as been equipped with weight rac ks. These weight r ac ks will easily allow for several hundred pounds to be added to the t ool. Depending on what depth the coulters are set at , it is very important to achieve coult er penetration. If the coulters do not penetrate this will be limiting the sweep depth. In these cases it is r ec ommended to rais e the coulters t o the highest setting or remove them. Removing the coulters or limi t i ng t he coulter dept h may create a problem in heavy d ebr is conditions. In t hese conditions it may work bes t to remove the middle shanks to allow for debris clearing.

Heavy Debris Covered Ground
Remove Middle Two
Remove Middle Two
It is recommended these condit ions be mowed firs t if possible t o help chop up the debris. In heavy debris covered conditions, additional weight is r ec ommended to help the coulters penetrate and cut debris. This tillage tool has been equi pped with weight rac ks. These weight racks will easily allow f or s everal hundred p ounds to be add ed to the tool. In certain cases if the debris is too heavy, the coulters may not wor k even with added weight. In these cases it ma y be nec es sary to remove the two middle shank s on the rear of the tool. This will allow the debris to clear the tool with limited collection. Removal or full y raising the middle two coulter s will also be neces s ary to help place more weight on the remaining coulters. (See Fi gure 5.)

Figure 5. – Sugges ted Heavy Debris Configuration
Sod Covered Ground
It is recommended that these conditions be mowed and sprayed with a grass killer. A grass k iller will not only k ill the green growt h but will help to break up the root s tructure as well. S od is also easier to work with in the spring or shortly after a rain. In some soft gr ound or limited s od conditions, it may be possibl e to use the 9” field c ultivator sweeps or r eversible point chisel sweeps. In most c as es t he optional tur ning s hovel kit will work best (Part # 003801). The turning shovels hav e the ability to strip the sod off and roll it to the side to prevent collect ing on the shanks. In hard ground condit ions it may be neces s ary to install t he pr ovided bev el washer spacers shown in Figure 3. These spacers will place the shovels at a steeper more aggressive angle of attac k. In all cases additional weight is very h elpful to maintain coult er penetration. The coulters will cut the sod which h elps prevent coll ec t i on on the shank s and reduces the p ulling load requirements. In heavy sod conditions it ma y work best to only use t wo turning shovels. If only two turning shovels are used place the shovels on the shanks closest to t he c enter of the tool.

conditions
In most cases reversible point c his el sweeps will h ave the best chance of working in heavily rock covered grou nd on the initial pas s . These sweeps will provide the least resistance. It may be necessary to raise or remove t he c oulters. If t he c oulters are being forc ed out of t he gr ound due to rocks, it may be dif ficult to get adequate sweep pe netration. Raising or removing t he coulters can also help prevent damage t o the coulter blad es when striking large r oc ks.

Soft Ground Conditions or Previously Tilled Ground Soft ground co nditions can be performed with a ny of the sweeps. The 9” field cultivator sweeps tend to work the best in these cases. These sweeps will help to full y shear the ground off and create a true seedbed. The optional drag harro w kit (Part # 003800) can be added as well for these conditions. The drag harrow will help to level the ground and reduce cl od size. If there is limited debris, the coulters c an be remov ed. With the coulters r emoved the two cent er s weeps can be moved forward. (See Fi gure 7.)
