Connecting a
Resolution Series
Loudspeaker to
Your System

IMPORTANT

Do not disconnect signal cables when
the amplifier is on and connected to
the loudspeaker. Doing so will cause
a loud pop that may damage your
components. Tighten loudspeaker
binding posts by hand only.

Resolution 4 loudspeakers are equipped with a single set of binding posts. Make
your connections to the Resolution 4 using a loudspeaker cable that has been
terminated in spades or bare wire.

Resolution 1,2,3, and C loudspeakers are equipped with two sets of WBT bind­ing posts. The top set is connected to the midrange and/or tweeter drivers, and
the bottom set
terminations, remove the plastic pins from the center of each loudspeaker connec­tor. Use a small pair of pliers to grasp the end of each pin and withdraw it from the
connector

Each Resolution loudspeaker is shipped set up for standard operation, with a
jumper connecting the positive binding posts and a second jumper connecting
the negative binding posts. Follow these steps to connect a Resolution Series loud­speaker to your system:

1.Make sure all power sources and components are off before connecting the loud­speakers.

2.Locate the loudspeaker binding posts on the loudspeaker back panel.

3.Connect the loudspeaker cable from the positive binding post on the loudspeaker
to a positive channel output on the amplifier.

4.Connect the loudspeaker cable from the negati v e b i n d i n g p o s t o n t h e l o u d ­speaker to a negative channel output on the amplifier.

Examples follow:
Standard. For the standard operation of a Resolution loudspeaker, using one

set of speaker cables per channel, leave the jumper connecting the positive
and negative binding posts in place. For each loudspeaker, make the positive
and negative connections to the binding posts, and then connect the cable to
the corresponding terminals on the left and right channels of the amplifier.

Bi-wire. To bi-wire a Resolution loudspeaker using two sets of loudspeaker
cable per channel, first remove the jumper connecting the positive and nega­tive binding posts. For each loudspeaker, first make the positive and negative
connections to the top binding post, and then connect the cable to the corre­sponding terminals on the left and right channels of the amplifier. Next make
the positive and negative connections to the bottom binding post for each
loudspeaker, and then connect the cable to the corresponding terminals on
the left and right channels of the amplifier.

Bi-amp. To bi-amp a Resolution loudspeaker using two sets of speaker cable
and two amplifier channels per loudspeaker

The Resolution 1 and Resolution 2 loudspeakers are suited for use either in 2-chan-

nel systems or as the main left and right speakers in a multi-channel home theater
set-up. The Resolution 3 and 4 loudspeakers work well in small systems or as sur­round speakers in a multi-channel home theater system. The Resolution C center
channel speaker features nearly the same driver complement as the Resolution 2,
and can be operated full-range.

The Resolution 1, 2, 3, and C loudspeakers feature heavily braced enclosures with
2-inch thick baffles for superior vibration damping. Driver complements are matched
to the enclosure and customized to Krell’s specifications. All crossovers are highly
current-capable and are designed by Krell.

This document outlines the basic steps for unpacking, placing, connecting, and oper­ating Resolution Series loudspeakers. The owner’s reference for this product, includ­ing a detailed description of features and the product warranty, is available on the

Follow these steps to safely unpack your loudspeaker:

1. Set the shipping box right side up using the arrows on the box as a guide.

2. Use a box-cutting knife to slit the tape along the top seams of the outer carton.

3. Open the flaps to reveal the inner carton.

4. Slit the tape along the top seams of the inner carton.

5. Open the flaps and remove the foam pad containing two cardboard boxes,
marked “accessories” and “grille”, and set aside.

6. Remove the foam pads from the front and rear of the loudspeaker.

7. The loudspeaker is lying on its side, with a foam end cap on each side of the
cabinet. Locate the foam end cap labeled TOP: the top of the loudspeaker.

8. Carefully lift the loudspeaker carton to a standing position, upside down, with
the top foam end cap on the floor. Make certain that the loudspeaker stays
inside the carton as you bring it to the vertical position.

Kneel down and grasp the top foam end cap.

10. Carefully slide the loudspeaker out and away from the inner and outer cartons.
The loudspeaker is still upside down, and the top foam end cap is still in place.

Set the inner and outer cartons aside.

12. Locate the end cap labeled BOTTOM: the bottom of the loudspeaker.
Remove the bottom foam end cap.

Open the band that secures the protective sleeve around the loudspeaker.

15. Gently slide the sleeve down, toward the top foam end cap.
If you are installing feet on a Resolution 1 or 2 loudspeaker, skip to Step 18. If

you are installing brackets on a Resolution 4 loudspeaker

16. Carefully invert the loudspeaker so that the bottom is on the floor.

17. Remove the top foam end cap and sleeve. You are ready to position the loud­speaker in the listening area.

18. Locate the spikes, rubber feet and locking washers, in the small cardboard box
marked “accessories”.

Choose the set of feet you want to use on your loudspeaker.

Thread the washers onto the feet.

21. Screw each foot/washer assembly into the four screw holes located on the bot­tom of the loudspeaker.

22. Carefully invert the loudspeaker so that it is resting on the feet.

23. Spin the washers counterclockwise up the shaft of each foot to fix the height of
the foot.

24. Remove the top foam end cap and sleeve. You are ready to position the
Resoluton 1 or 2 loudspeaker in the listening area.

25. Remove the protective sleeve from the Resolution 4 loudspeaker.

26. Locate the brackets, in the small cardboard box marked “accessories”.

27. Using two back panel screws of your choice, affix one Resolution 4 bracket to
the back of the loudspeaker.

28. Affix the other bracket to the wall using hardware rated for 25 lbs.(11.4 k) or

(not provided).

29. Remove the top foam end cap and mount the Resolution 4 on the wall.

A Resolution Series loudspeaker is simple to set up and use, and is engineered to
perform well in a wide variety of listening environments. The closer a Resolution 1, 2,
3, or C loudspeaker is to the rear wall, the more pronounced the bass response. To
minimize unwanted reflected sound and maximize the width and depth of the sound­stage, be careful not to set the Resolution 1, 2, 3, or C loudspeakers too close to the
side walls. The Resolution 4 loudspeaker has been designed to work well in close
proximity to walls and other room boundaries, and can function as a main, surround,
or center channel loudspeaker. Krell encourages you to experiment and find the
placement that reflects your personal preference.

Attach the grille to the loudspeaker
before you play music. Each Resolution
Series loudspeaker is equipped with a
snap-on grille, which consists of grille
cord (3) strung between two metal grille
blocks (1). This grille is shipped in the
cardboard box marked “grille”.

Attach the Loudspeaker Grille:

cords to the right or left.

5.Gently guide the pins into the grille
holes. You hear a click when the
grille is in place.
