1 Introduction

Welcome to Kramer Electronics! This equipment is to be used only inside a building. It may only be connected to other equipment that is installed inside a building.

2 Getting Started

We recommend that you:

 Unpack the equipment carefully and save the original box and packaging

materials for possible future shipment

 Review the contents of this user manual

2.1 Achieving the Best Performance

To achieve the best performance:

 Use only good quality connection cables (we recommend Kramer high-

performance, high-resolution cables) to avoid interference, deterioration in signal quality due to poor matching, and elevated noise levels (often associated with low quality cables)

 Do not secure the cables in tight bundles or roll the slack into tight coils  Avoid interference from neighboring electrical appliances that may adversely

influence signal quality

 Position your Kramer VM-22H away from moisture, excessive sunlight and

dust

There are no operator serviceable parts inside the unit

Use only the Kramer Electronics input power wall adapter that is provided with the unit

VM-22H - Overview

3 Overview

The VM−22H is a distribution amplifier for HDMI signals. The unit reclocks and equalizes one of two selectable input signals and distributes it to two identical outputs.

In particular, the VM-22H features:

 A maximum data rate of 6.75Gbps (2.25Gbps bandwidth per graphic

channel

 I-EDIDPro™ Kramer Intelligent EDID Processing™, an intelligent EDID

handling and processing algorithm that ensures Plug and Play operation for HDMI systems

 Kramer Equalization & re-Klocking™ Technology that rebuilds the digital

signal integrity to travel longer distances

 3D pass-through  HDMI support for Deep Color, x.v.Color™, Lip Sync, CEC  HDCP compliance  Selected input and active output LED indicators

The VM-22H is 5V DC fed and is housed in a DigiTOOLS® enclosure.

Illuminates when input 2 is selected

OUT 1 LED

Illuminates when output 1 is connected and active (also illuminates or blinks during EDID setup, see Section 5)

VM-22H - Connecting the VM-22H

Always switch off the power to each device before connecting it to your VM-22H. After connecting your VM-22H, connect its power and then switch on the power to each device.

4 Connecting the VM-22H

To connect the VM-22H as illustrated in the example in Figure 2:

1. Connect the HDMI source (for example, a DVD player) to the HDMI IN 1 connector.

2. Connect the HDMI source (for example, a DVD player) to the HDMI IN 2 connector.

3. Connect the HDMI OUT connectors to up to two HDMI acceptors, as follows:

 HDMI OUT 1 connector to an LCD TV  HDMI OUT 2 connector to a plasma display

4. Connect the 5V DC power adapter to the power socket and connect the adapter to the mains electricity.

5. Press the EDID SETUP button to acquire or change the EDID information (see Section 5).

VM-22H - Acquiring the EDID

5 Acquiring the EDID

This is usually done only once, when the machine is being set up in an installation. Once acquired, the EDID is saved in non-volatile memory and further acquisition is not necessary.

Initially, the VM-22H operates with the factory default EDID. This lets you connect the power before connecting one of the acceptors or sources.

You can acquire the EDID from:

 One output (the relevant output illuminates)  The default EDID (both output LEDs blink)  Two connected outputs, the auto-mix mode (both output LEDs illuminate)

The EDID acquired is a weighted average of all the connected outputs. For example, if several displays with different resolutions are connected to the outputs, the acquired EDID supports all the resolutions, as well as other parameters included in the EDID.

When pressing the EDID SETUP button briefly, the OUT LEDs indicate which type of EDID was last acquired. If the:

 OUT 1 LED illuminates, the OUT 1 EDID is stored in the non-volatile

memory

 OUT 2 LED illuminates, the OUT 2 EDID is stored in the non-volatile

 OUT 1 and OUT 2 LEDs blink, the Default EDID is stored in the non-volatile

 OUT 1 and OUT 2 LEDs illuminate, the Auto-Mix EDID is stored in the non-

To acquire the EDID, do the following:

1. Connect the power.

2. Connect the output or outputs from which you want to acquire the EDID.

3. Press and hold the EDID SETUP button to select the desired EDID. The OUT LEDs illuminate in the following cycle: OUT 1, OUT 2, both flash (default) and both illuminate (auto-mix).

4. Release the button when reaching the desired set up. The EDID is now acquired.

If you set the machine to acquire the EDID from an output that is not connected, the default EDID is acquired.
