Class B Declaration of Conformity
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. License
EFI grants you a non-exclusive license to use the Software and accompanying documentation (“Documentation”) included with the Product. The Software is licensed, not sold. You may use the Software solely for your own customary business or personal purposes. You may not rent, lease, sublicense or lend the Software or use the Software in any time sharing, service bureau, or similar arrangement.
You may not make or have made, or permit to be made, any copies of the Software or portions thereof, except one (1) copy for backup or archive purposes in support of your use of the Software as permitted hereunder. You may not copy the Documentation. You may not attempt to localize, translate, disassemble, decompile, decrypt, reverse engineer, discover the source code of, modify, create derivative works of, or in any way change any part of the Software.
The terms, conditions, and restrictions in the License Agreement apply to all bug fixes, patches, releases, release notes, updates, and upgrades related to the Software.
Proprietary Rights
You acknowledge and agree that all rights, title and interest, including all intellectual property rights, in and relating to the Software, Documentation and all modifications and derivative works thereof are solely owned by and shall remain with EFI and its suppliers. Except for the express limited license granted above to use the Software, no right or license of any kind is granted. You receive no rights or license under any patents, copyrights, trade secrets, or trademarks (whether registered or unregistered). You agree not to adopt, register, or attempt to register any EFI trademark or trade name (“EFI Mark”) or any confusingly similar mark, URL, internet domain name, or symbol as your own name or the name of your affiliates or products, and not to take any other action which impairs or reduces the trademark rights of EFI or its suppliers.
Confidentiality
The Software is confidential, proprietary information of EFI and you may not distribute or disclose the Software. You may, however, permanently transfer all of your rights under this Agreement to another person or legal entity provided that: (1) such a transfer is authorized under all applicable export laws and regulations, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations, (2) you transfer to the person or entity all of the Software and Documentation (including all copies, updates, upgrades, prior versions, component parts, the media and printed materials, and this Agreement); (3) you retain no copies of the Software and Documentation, including copies stored on a computer; and (4) the recipient agrees to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
Remedies and Termination
Unauthorized use, copying, or disclosure of the Software, or any breach of this Agreement will result in automatic termination of this license and will make available to EFI other legal remedies. In the event of termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software, Documentation, and all component parts thereof. All provisions of this Agreement relating to disclaimers of warranties, limitation of liability, remedies, damages, governing law, jurisdiction, venue, and EFI’s proprietary rights shall survive termination.
Limited Warranty and Disclaimer
EFI warrants to the original purchaser (“Customer”) for thirty (30) days from the date of original purchase from EFI or its authorized retailer that the Software will perform in substantial conformance to the Documentation when the Product is used as authorized by EFI’s specifications. EFI warrants the media containing the Software against failure during the above warranty period. EFI makes no warranty or representation that the Software will meet your specific requirements, that the operation of the Software will be uninterrupted, secure, fault-tolerant, or error free, or that all defects in the Software will be corrected. EFI makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of any third party products (software or hardware. THE INSTALLATION OF ANY THIRD PARTY PRODUCTS OTHER THAN AS AUTHORIZED BY EFI WILL VOID THIS WARRANTY. IN ADDITION, USE, MODIFICATION, AND/OR REPAIR OF THE PRODUCT OTHER THAN AS AUTHORIZED BY EFI WILL VOID THIS WARRANTY.

Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EFI AND ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOST PROFITS, COST OF COVER OR OTHER SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE SALE, INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE, USE, PERFORMANCE OR FAILURE OF THE SOFTWARE, HOWEVER CAUSED AND ON ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY. THIS LIMITATION WILL APPLY EVEN IF EFI HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT REFLECTS THIS ALLOCATION OF RISK. ADOBE WILL HAVE NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER TO YOU FOR ANY ADOBE SOFTWARE OR TECHNOLOGY LICENSED HEREUNDER.
Export Controls
EFI’s Products are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations, as well as foreign export laws and regulations. You agree that you will not use, distribute, transfer, export, or re-export any portion of the Product or the Software in any form in violation of any applicable laws or regulations of the United States or the country in which you obtained them.

Use, duplication, or disclosure of the Software by the United States Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in FAR 12.212 or DFARS 227.7202-3 -
227.7202-4 and, to the extent required under U.S. federal law, the minimum restricted rights as set out in FAR 52.227-14, Restricted Rights Notice (June 1987) Alternate III(g)(3)(June 1987) or FAR 52.227-19 (June 1987). To the extent any technical data is provided pursuant to the Agreement, such data is protected per FAR 12.211 and DFARS 227.7102-2 and to the extent explicitly required by the U.S. Government, is subject to limited rights as set out in DFARS 252.227.7015 (November 1995) and DFARS 252.227-7037 (September 1999). In the event that any of the above referenced agency regulations are modified or superceded, the subsequent or equivalent regulation shall apply. The name of the Contractor is Electronics for Imaging.
General
The rights and obligations of the parties related to this Agreement will be governed in all respects by the laws of the State of California exclusively, as such laws apply to contracts between California residents performed entirely within California. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and any other similar convention does not apply to this Agreement. For all disputes related to this Agreement, you consent to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state courts in San Mateo County, California and the federal court for the Northern District of California. This Agreement is the entire agreement held between us and supersedes any other communications or advertising with respect to the Software. If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid, such provision shall be deemed modified to the extent necessary to be enforceable and the other provisions in this Agreement shall continue in full force and effect.

Introduction

This manual describes how to install user software for the Fiery X3e Color Server, and how to set up printing from Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS computers. For information about setting up network servers and clients to use the Fiery X3e Color Server, see the using the color copier, your computer, application software, or network, see the manuals that accompany those products.

The term “Fiery X3e” is used in this manual to refer to the Fiery X3e Color Server. The name “Aero” is used in illustrations to represent the Fiery X3e. The term “Windows” is used to refer to Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, wherever appropriate.
The Fiery X3e includes support for Fiery WebTools™ and software for Command WorkStation, which enables an operator to manage all jobs sent to the Fiery X3e. Although it may not be the case at all sites, the documentation for this product assumes the presence of an operator who controls and manages jobs sent by users from remote workstations.

This chapter describes the procedures for installing software and setting up printing from a computer using a supported version of Windows. For the Windows versions supported, see the
The general steps for installing the software are as follows:
•Install the PostScript printer driver or PCL printer driver and corresponding printer driver files and set up the printer driver to communicate with the Fiery X3e.
•Install Fiery utilities and user software—EFI Fiery Mail Port, Fiery Remote Scan, Fiery Downloader, Fiery Printer Delete Utility, ColorWise Pro Tools, and Command WorkStation.
• Configure the connection for Fiery utilities and user software.
• Copy additional files from the User Software CD as required.
In addition to using the User Software CD, you can download printer drivers from the Fiery X3e with the Installer WebTool (if the administrator has enabled Internet access to the Fiery X3e). For instructions, see “Using the Fiery WebTools Installer” on page 3-2. Once you download the printer files, the installation process is identical to installing from the User Software CD.

Setting up PostScript or PCL printing with Windows 98/Me
To set up the Fiery X3e as a PostScript or PCL printer, you must install the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows 98/Me and the corresponding printer description files. You must also configure either a local connection for printing directly or a network connection for printing over the network.
If you are printing using SMB (Server Message Block), you can connect to the Fiery X3e and install the printer drivers in a single procedure. For more information, see “Setting up SMB printing with Windows 98/Me” on page 1-14.

Installing the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows 98/Me
The following procedure describes installing the printer driver from the User Software CD or from the Installer WebTool. Subsequent procedures describe configuring installable options and setting up the printer connection.

1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Printers.
2. In the Printers window, double-click the Add Printer icon and click Next.
3. Specify printing using a Local printer and click Next.
This procedure describes the installation of a local printer. You can modify the connection later, according to your network type.
4. In the dialog box displaying lists of manufacturers and printers, click Have Disk.
The Install From Disk dialog box prompts you for the disk.
5. If you are installing from the CD, type the name of the CD-ROM drive (for example, D:\), and click Browse. Browse to English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr\Win_9x_ME.
If you are installing from the files you downloaded using the Installer WebTool, browse to prntdrvr\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr\Win_9x_ME.
6. Make sure “Oemsetup.inf” is selected and click OK.
The path is copied to the Install From Disk dialog box.
7. Verify the path is correct and click OK.

8. Select the Fiery X3e printer driver appropriate for your printer and click Next.

9. Select the LPT1 port and click Next.
You will configure the port later, according to your network type.
10. Enter a name for the Fiery X3e.
11. Specify whether to make the Fiery X3e the default printer, and click Next.
12. Select No to printing the Test page and click Finish.
The necessary PostScript or PCL files are installed to your computer.
Configuring installed options
After you have completed the printer driver installation, you must configure the Fiery X3e for the options installed on the copier. This allows the Fiery X3e to take advantage of the copier options. You can configure the options manually. Or, for TCP/IP network connections, you can use the Two-Way Communication feature to configure the options automatically.

Configuring installed options manually
The following procedure describes how to manually configure the Fiery X3e for the options installed on the copier.

3. Click the Configuration tab.

Configuring installed options and updating print options settings automatically
If you have a TCP/IP-enabled network, you can automatically update your printer driver to reflect the options currently installed on the copier. When the printer driver is first installed, the options have default settings that were set up in Fiery X3e Setup or ColorWise Pro Tools. When you update the printer driver with the Two-Way Communication feature, you allow the Fiery X3e to complete the actual setting.
The Two-Way Communication feature also updates Expert Color Settings options to reflect the current color settings on the Fiery X3e. To access the Expert Color Settings options, click the Expert Settings tab in the ColorWise print option bar of the Fiery printing tab of your printer driver. For more information, see the Color Guide.
TO CONFIGURE INSTALLED OPTIONS AND UPDATE PRINT OPTIONS
SETTINGS AUTOMATICALLY FOR WINDOWS 98/ME
1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Printers.
2. In the Printers window, select the icon for the Fiery X3e PostScript or PCL printer driver.
3. Choose Properties from the File menu.
4. Click the Configuration tab.

5. Select Two-Way Communication.
6. Type the Fiery X3e IP address or DNS name.
7. To display the printer’s current default settings when opened, select Update Fiery Driver When Opened.
8. Click Update.
9. To receive an e-mail notification after your job has been printed, select Enable E-mail Notification, and type in the e-mail address to which notification should be sent.
You will also receive e-mail notification of any errors that occur during printing.
NOTE: Enable E-mail Notification is displayed only if Email Service is enabled at Setup.
10. Click OK.
Completing the Windows 98/Me printer connection
To print from Windows 98/Me, you should already have set up network servers, if any, and set up the Fiery X3e to accept print jobs from your computer.
To complete the Windows 98/Me connection, you must configure a connection on each Windows computer for the network.

Completing the Windows 98/Me parallel port connection
Preparing a parallel port connection for Windows 98/Me requires specific BIOS settings on your computer, and specific port and printer settings for Windows 98/Me. In addition, the administrator may need to change the parallel port timeout in Fiery Setup if you choose to spool files to the Fiery X3e, rather than print directly.
TO PREPARE THE FIERY X3E AND YOUR COMPUTER
FOR PARALLEL PORT PRINTING
1. Connect the Fiery X3e to the parallel port on your computer.
For instructions, see the Configuration Guide.
2. In Network Setup> Port Setup>Parallel Port Setup on the Fiery X3e Control Panel, set Enable Parallel Port to Yes.
For more information about Fiery X3e Setup, see the Configuration Guide.
3. If you want to spool files to the Fiery X3e, set Port Timeout in Seconds to 10. If you want to print directly to the Fiery X3e, set Port Timeout in Seconds to 5.
4. In your computer’s BIOS settings, set Parallel Port Mode to ECP.
To access the BIOS settings, restart the computer and press the key indicated on your monitor as soon as the computer starts up. You may have to scroll through several menus to reach the parallel port settings. After setting the Parallel Port Mode to ECP, save your changed setting and exit.
TO PREPARE THE PRINTER FOR PARALLEL PORT PRINTING
1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Printers.
2. Click the Fiery X3e printer icon and choose Properties from the File menu.
3. Click the Details tab, and in the “Print to the following port” menu, select LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port).

OTE: Check this selection carefully. It may read LPT 1: (Printer Port), which is not
equivalent to LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port).
If this box does not read LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port), change the port setting now, as described in “To prepare the port for parallel port printing” on page 1-9, and then return to this procedure. You may need your Windows System CD.

4. If you changed the selection in the “Print to the following port” menu, click Apply.
5. Click Spool Settings.
6. Select either “Spool print jobs so program finishes printing faster” or “Print directly

8. Click Apply.
You are now ready to print from your applications to the Fiery X3e with the parallel port. To confirm the connection, print a Test page.
9. Click the General tab.
10. Click Print Test Page and click OK.
11. In the Job Notes field, type user and job identification information, and click OK.
If the Test page prints successfully, you are ready to print from the computer.
Perform the following procedure in Windows 98/Me only if the LPT1 port is not currently set to ECP Printer Port.

TO PREPARE THE PORT FOR PARALLEL PORT PRINTING
IN WINDOWS 98/ME
1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
The System Properties dialog box appears.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. Double-click Ports.
5. Double-click the port with LPT1 in its name.
6. In the (LPT1) Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab and then click Update Driver.
The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box appears.

7. Click Next.
8. Select “Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want,” and then click Next.
9. Select “Show all hardware.”
10. From the Manufacturers list, select “(Standard port types).” From the Models list, select “ECP Printer Port” (not Printer Port). Click Next.

11. Click Yes in the Update Driver Warning dialog box.
12. Click Next.
13. Click Finish, then close the Printer Port Properties and System Properties dialog boxes.
You must restart your computer to activate the new settings. After Windows 98/Me restarts, complete the procedure described in “To prepare the printer for parallel port
printing” on page 1-7.
Completing the Windows 98/Me IPX/SPX or IPX (Novell) connection
If you are printing through a Novell server, the Novell network and file server should be set up before you begin. The file server should be configured with a print server and print connection for the Fiery X3e. For details, see your NetWare documentation and the Configuration Guide.
To print from Windows 98/Me computers over IPX (Novell), you must first set up IPX/SPX protocols, and then configure the Fiery X3e by choosing the IPX frame type and entering the settings for the port you use.
TO SELECT A FRAME TYPE FOR IPX/SPX PRINTING
FOR WINDOWS 98/ME
1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Network icon.
Make sure that IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol is listed in the installed network components pane.

3. Double-click the IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol icon.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Select Frame Type in the Property list.
6. In the Value menu, choose the Frame Type that corresponds to the one set in Fiery X3e Network Setup.
If necessary, print the Configuration page from the Fiery X3e Control Panel to determine which frame type(s) are configured.

NOTE: Do not select Auto. Auto may not select the frame type specified on
the Fiery X3e.
7. Click OK and close the Network Control Panel.
8. When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
TO SET UP A PORT FOR IPX (NOVELL) PRINTING WITH WINDOWS 98/ME
1. Click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Printers.
2. Click the Fiery X3e printer icon and choose Properties from the File menu.
3. Click the Details tab and click Add Port.
A list of connection options appears.
4. In the Add Port dialog box, specify the network path or click Browse for a display of your network environment.
5. If you are using a NetWare file server, double-click the icon for the NetWare file server to use for printing to the Fiery X3e.

6. Click the printer icon for the NetWare print queue you want to use, and then click OK.
7. In the Add Port dialog box, verify that the network path is updated and click OK.
8. To confirm the connection, click the General tab, click Apply, and then click Print
Your print jobs are transmitted to the specified print queue on the Novell file server. The Fiery X3e polls the file server, and if jobs are present, they are transmitted to the Fiery X3e.
Test Page.
After the Test page prints successfully, you are ready to print from the computer.
Setting up SMB printing with Windows 98/Me
SMB printing (also known as Windows or WINS printing) allows you to install the PostScript or PCL printer driver and printer description files on your computer from the Fiery X3e using Point and Print, and print to a particular connection (Hold, Print, or Direct). To set up SMB printing, you must have the TCP/IP protocol and Client for Microsoft Networks installed.
Each connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) requires a new printer driver and printer description file. Repeat the procedure “To set up SMB printing on Windows 98/Me” for each connection. If you install more than one printer, give each a descriptive name during printer driver installation, such as Aero-Print or Aero-Hold, so you can easily identify printers.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Configure the Fiery X3e for SMB printing in Run Setup> Network Setup>Service Setup > Windows Setup.
SMB printing is referred to as Windows Printing in Setup, on the Control Panel Map, and on the Configuration page.

TO SET UP SMB PRINTING ON WINDOWS 98/ME
1. Double-click the Network Neighborhood icon to display your network environment.
2. Browse for the printer you want to print to.
Browse for the name entered in Network Setup> Service Setup> Windows Setup>Server Name. For this information, see the Configuration page.
NOTE: You can also locate the printer using the Find feature on your Windows
computer. Click Start, choose Find, and then choose Computer. Enter the name of the printer, and click Find Now.
If you are not able to locate your Fiery X3e, contact your network administrator.
3. Double-click the name of the printer to display enabled print connections.

4. Double-click the name of the connection you want to print to.
5. Select Yes to install the PostScript or PCL printer driver and printer description file for the selected connection.
The Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears.
6. Specify whether you print from MS-DOS based programs and click Next.
If you choose Yes, you must capture a printer port before proceeding with the installation. For details, see your Windows documentation.

IPP printing is supported on Windows 2000/XP but can be enabled on Windows 98/Me computers by installing the wpnpins.exe client file (available on the Windows Me CD or the Windows 2000 Server CD). For more information about obtaining and installing this client, contact the Microsoft Corporation or Microsoft Technical Support.
NOTE: The IPP setup procedures are performed after installing the appropriate printer
drivers. See “To install the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows 98/Me” on page 1-2.

If you are printing directly to the printer, you must configure a parallel port connection.

Installing the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows NT 4.0
The following procedures describe the installation of a local printer. Adding a printer to a local system requires that you log in to your local Windows NT 4.0 computer (not the network server domain) and that you are a member of the Administrators group. The procedure for adding a network printer is similar to adding a port. See
“Completing the Windows NT 4.0 TCP/IP and LPR connection” on page 1-26.

Configuring installed options

Configuring installed options and updating print options settings automatically
If you have a TCP/IP-enabled network, you can automatically update your printer driver to reflect the options currently installed on the Fiery X3e. When the printer driver is first installed, the installable options have default settings that were set up in Fiery X3e Setup or ColorWise Pro Tools. When you update the printer driver with the Two-Way Communication feature, you allow the Fiery X3e to complete the actual setting.
The Two-Way Communication feature also updates Expert Color Settings options to reflect the current color settings on the Fiery X3e. To access Expert Color Settings options, click the Expert Settings tab in the ColorWise print option bar of the Fiery printing tab of your printer driver. For more information, see the Color Guide.

To print from Windows NT 4.0, you must:

•Prepare the Fiery X3e for IPX printing.
•Set up the IPX connection on the computer.

Setting up SMB printing on Windows NT 4.0
SMB printing (also known as Windows printing) allows you to install the PostScript or PCL printer driver and printer description files, and print from your computer to a particular print connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) on the Fiery X3e. These instructions assume you have installed the TCP/IP protocol and Client for Microsoft Networks.
Each connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) requires a new printer driver and printer description file. To set up printing to a second or third print connection, repeat the procedure “To set up SMB printing on Windows NT 4.0” on page 1-31. If you install more than one printer, give each a descriptive name during printer driver installation, such as Aero-Print or Aero-Hold, so you can easily identify printers.
NOTE: To change printer defaults and configure installable options from Windows
NT 4.0, you must log on with the special log-in name, ‘efi_admin_efi’ (instead of Administrator) and use the password specified in Fiery X3e Setup. If you log on as a User, you can install the printer driver through Point and Print, but you cannot modify printer defaults and configure installable options.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Configure the Fiery X3e for SMB printing in Run Setup> Network Setup>Service Setup> Windows Setup.

The printer name you are browsing for is the name entered in Network Setup>Service Setup>Windows Setup>Server Name. For this information, see the Configuration page.
The amount of network traffic determines the amount of time required for the Browse function.
NOTE: You can also locate the printer with the Find feature on your Windows
computer. Click Start , choose Find, and then choose Computer. Enter the name of the printer, and click Find Now.
If you are not able to locate your Fiery X3e, contact your network administrator.

Setting up PostScript or PCL printing with Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003

To set up the Fiery X3e as a PostScript or PCL printer, you must install the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 and the corresponding printer description files. You must also configure the print connection between the computer and the Fiery X3e. If you are printing over a network, you must configure a network connection. If you are printing directly to the printer, you must configure a parallel port connection.
NOTE: For Windows Server 2003, use the Windows XP printer driver.
NOTE: The procedures for configuring the options for the PostScript and PCL printer
drivers are similar. The following illustrations show the PostScript driver. Differences are noted.

NOTE: The Digital Signature Not Found dialog box indicates that the printer driver for
Windows 2000 does not have a Microsoft digital signature. However, printing to the Fiery X3e is processed correctly, so click Yes to continue with installation.
11. If this is the first printer driver you are installing on the computer, you may be prompted to install files from the Windows 2000 CD. Insert the CD-ROM, browse to the win2000\english\i386 folder, and then click OK.
When installation is complete, the Printers window appears with an icon for the newly installed printer. You must now configure the options installed on your copier.

Setting up SMB printing on Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003
SMB printing (also known as Windows printing) allows you to install the printer driver and associated files, and print from your computer to a particular print connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) on the Fiery X3e. These instructions assume you have installed the TCP/IP protocol and Client for Microsoft Networks.
Each connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) requires a new printer driver and printer description file. To set up printing to a second or third print connection, repeat the procedure, “To set up SMB printing on Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003”. If you install more than one printer, give each a descriptive name during printer driver installation, such as Aero-Print or Aero-Hold, so you can easily identify printers.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Configure the Fiery X3e for SMB printing in Network Setup>Service Setup>Windows Setup.
SMB printing is referred to as Windows Printing in Setup, on the Control Panel Map, and on the Configuration page. For more information, see the Configuration Guide.
TO SET UP SMB PRINTING ON WINDOWS 2000/XP/SERVER 2003
1. Open My Network Places.
2. Browse for the printer you want to print to.
The printer name you are browsing for is the name entered in Network Setup > Service Setup> Windows Setup >Server Name. For this information, see the Configuration page.
The amount of network traffic determines the amount of time required for the Browse function.
NOTE: You can also locate the printer using the Search feature on your Windows
computer. Right-click My Network Places and click Search for Computers. Type the name of the printer and click Search Now.
If you are not able to locate your Fiery X3e, contact your network administrator.
3. Double-click the name of the Fiery X3e to display enabled print connections.

Setting up IPP printing with Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003
With Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), print jobs are sent to the Fiery X3e over the Internet.
IPP printing is supported directly for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 computers. IPP printing is not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
NOTE: The IPP setup procedures are performed after installing the appropriate printer
drivers (see “To install the PostScript or PCL printer driver for Windows
2000/XP/Server 2003” on page 1-33).
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
1. Prepare the Fiery X3e for TCP/IP printing.
2. Make sure the Fiery X3e is configured for IPP printing. For more information, see the
Configuration Guide.
3. Specify the printing destination on your computer.

The URL for the printer is the IP address or DNS name followed by “ipp” and the connection you want to print to (print, hold, or direct). Insert slashes between the different elements.

The Connect to Printer dialog box appears.
6. Click OK.
The Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears.
7. If you are installing the PostScript printer for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 for the first time, follow the procedure described on page 1-33.

Installing EFI Fiery Mail Port

The E-Mail Service provides a method to print and control the Fiery X3e remotely. Jobs are sent to the Fiery X3e in the form of e-mail attachments. You can set up e-mail printing on Windows computers by adding the EFI Fiery Mail Port software as a printer port.
To set up the Fiery X3e for e-mail printing, see the Configuration Guide. After Setup has been performed, install the software from the User Software CD onto your Windows computer, and then add a port.
NOTE: Procedures are given for Windows 98/Me and Windows NT 4.0. Procedures for
Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 are similar to those for Windows NT 4.0.
TO INSTALL THE E -MAIL PORT MONITOR ON WINDOWS COMPUTERS
1. Open the EFI Fiery Mail Port folder on the User Software CD.
2. Double-click the Setup icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
When installation is complete, you are ready to configure the connection for the e-mail port monitor.

Installing Fiery utilities

From the User Software CD, you can install the following Fiery utilities and user software:
• ColorWise Pro Tools
•Fiery Downloader

• EFI Fiery Mail Port (see “Installing EFI Fiery Mail Port” on page 1-51)
• Command WorkStation
•DocBuilder Pro (available as an option)
NOTE: Do not attempt to install DocBuilder Pro from the User Software CD (by
starting the setup.exe from the DBPro folder); it is automatically installed when you install Command WorkStation. Installing DocBuilder Pro from the User Software CD can cause unpredictable results. To use DocBuilder Pro, you must install Acrobat v5.0.5 and PitStop from the Fiery DocBuilder Pro CD. To install Acrobat, see “A dobe
Acrobat” on page 1-59. To install PitStop, see “PitStop” on page 1-59.
The Fiery utilities must be separately installed on each user’s computer. The installation of each utility is similar. Before you begin each installation, determine where you want to install each item on your hard disk. Otherwise, the software is placed by default in the Fiery folder inside the Programs folder except for the Fiery Remote Scan TWAIN plug-in module. The Command WorkStation installer also installs the Java files necessary to use Fiery Setup from Command WorkStation.
NOTE: To install the software on a Windows 2000 computer, you must have Service
Pack 2 installed on your computer. If not, a warning message alerts you to install Service Pack 2.

The TWAIN Fiery Remote Scan Module installer automatically creates a folder named Twain_32 in the Windows folder on your hard disk, and then installs the Fiery Remote Scan plug-in module into the folder.
NOTE: Before installing the TWAIN Fiery Remote Scan module, make sure the
TWAIN plug-ins (installed with TWAIN-compliant application software) are located in the correct Plugins subfolder. If the TWAIN plug-ins have been deleted, you must reinstall the TWAIN-compliant application software in order to use Fiery Remote Scan.
You access the Fiery Remote Scan plug-in from the TWAIN-compliant software using the TWAIN module. For details, see the Printing Guide.
TO INSTALL FIERY UTILITIES
1. Open the appropriate folder for the software you want to install.
2. Double-click the Setup.exe icon.

Adobe Acrobat

In Command WorkStation, the DocBuilder Pro feature and PitStop software plug-in work with Adobe Acrobat v5.0.5. To use DocBuilder Pro, you must install Adobe Acrobat v5.0.5, the PitStop plug-in, and Command WorkStation. Acrobat and PitStop are included on the DocBuilder Pro CD.
NOTE: To use DocBuilder Pro, you must have the dedicated dongle installed to the
parallel port on your computer. If the dongle is not installed, refer to the documentation packaged with the dongle.
For more information about Acrobat for Windows, see the Readme.pdf file on the DocBuilder Pro CD.
TO INSTALL ACROBAT
1. Insert the DocBuilder Pro CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Open the Acrobat folder, and double-click AutoPlay.exe.

PitStop

PitStop is a plug-in for Acrobat v5.0.5 for use with DocBuilder Pro. You must first install Acrobat v5.0.5 as described in the previous section. PitStop software is included on the DocBuilder Pro CD.

1. On the DocBuilder Pro CD, double-click to open the PitStop folder.
2. Open the PitStop folder and choose the setup icon for the language you want to install.
English, French, German, and Spanish languages are supplied and are indicated by a two-letter identifier. For example, in the file name, pp_5.setup_de.exe, “de” represents German. The identifiers for the other languages are: us (English),
fr (French), and es (Spanish).
3. Double click the PitStop setup icon you want.
The Welcome to Enfocus PitStop Setup dialog box appears,

The Information dialog box appears.
NOTE: Make sure to complete the Enfocus Certified PDF Personal Information form.

Using Fiery utilities for the first time
Before you can use the newly installed software, you must configure the connection to the Fiery X3e.
Configuring the connection for Fiery utilities
The first time you start one of the Fiery utilities, you must configure the connection to the Fiery X3e. Similar configuration is used for all Fiery utilities, so a change in one configuration affects all the other connections. Configuration for most Fiery utilities is described in the following procedure.
For configuration of specific Fiery utilities, see “Configuring the connection for
Command WorkStation” on page 1-64.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Print the Configuration page from the Fiery X3e Control Panel.
This page contains information you need when configuring the connection, such as the IP address. For TCP/IP installations, you can use the DNS name of the Fiery X3e instead of the IP address. Make sure the Fiery X3e is already registered in a Domain Name Server (DNS) on your network. For more information, see your Windows system documentation.

TO CONFIGURE THE CONNECTION FOR FIERY UTILITIES
1. Start the utility for which you want to configure a connection.
For Fiery Remote Scan, start the supported TWAIN-compliant software.
For details, see the Printing Guide.
2. If the No Servers Configured dialog box appears, click OK.
If the Choose Printer Device dialog box appears, click Add.
3. Enter the appropriate information for the Fiery X3e.
Nickname—Enter a name for the Fiery X3e. This name does not have to match the
actual Server Name of the Fiery X3e.
NOTE: The nickname cannot contain any of the following seven characters:
[ ] _ " ' <space> <tab>
Protocol—Choose the type of network protocol you are using from the menu.
NOTE: Fiery utilities are not supported over IPX/SPX. Command WorkStation is
supported on Windows computers over TCP/IP.
Server Name—Enter the IP address (or DNS name) of the Fiery X3e.
New Device—Enter the name of the device the Fiery X3e is connected to: 50C-K.
NOTE: Type 50C-K exactly as shown because the device name is case-sensitive.
4. When you have entered all the information, click Add.

5. With the device name (50C-K) selected in the Devices list, click OK.
The Fiery X3e appears in the list of available servers. The first line of the entry displays the nickname you gave the server, followed by the protocol you chose. The second line displays the device name.
6. With the device name selected in the list of Available Servers, click Select to begin using the utility.
Modifying the configuration
Edit the configuration whenever there is any change to your Fiery X3e server or network, such as a server name or IP address. If you change Fiery X3e Setup information, do so before reconfiguring the connection.
TO MODIFY THE CONFIGURATION
1. To edit information for a Fiery X3e in the list of available servers, select the Fiery X3e by its nickname and click Modify.
2. Make the necessary changes in the Modify Server Settings dialog box and click OK.
3. To add a new Fiery X3e to the list of available servers, click Add. Configure the Add New Server dialog box as outlined in steps 3 through 5 in the previous procedure.
4. To remove a Fiery X3e, select the Fiery X3e by its nickname and click Remove.

The first time you start Command WorkStation, you are prompted to configure the connection to the Fiery X3e.

Installing color files from the User Software CD
You can copy additional color files from the User Software CD to your hard disk. Many of the files are PostScript files that you can download and print using Fiery Downloader.
ICC folder ICC monitor settings file and a device profile specially designed
for use with the Fiery X3e and particular copier models. For instructions on installing, see “Installing the ICC profiles on a
Windows computer” on page 1-69.
Clrfiles folder (inside the English folder)
Cmyk.ps, an 11-page, letter-size PostScript file to use for reference when defining CMYK colors in applications.
Pantone.ps, a 19-page, letter-size PostScript file that indicates the closest equivalent of PANTONE coated colors that the Fiery X3e and your copier model can produce. The method used to print the Pantone.ps file differs depending on the Spot Color Matching setting. For more information, see the Printing Guide and the Color Guide.
Calibrat folder (inside the English\Clrfiles folder)
Rgb_01.doc, a file you can print from Microsoft Word 97 or later to view available RGB colors.
Rgb_02.ppt, a file you can print from PowerPoint 6.0 or later to view available RGB colors.
Four PostScript files of color patches for obtaining measurements: Custom21.ps, Custom34.ps, Stand21.ps, and Stand34.ps. The numbers in the file names refer to the number of patches on the page. The Custom files allow you to download measurement patches that incorporate the copier’s current calibration set. The Standard files allow you to download standard measurement patches that bypass the copier’s current calibration set. For information on using these files, see the Color Guide.
NOTE: These files are provided for expert users and should not be
used for day-to-day calibration.

Installing the ICC profiles on a Windows computer
The ICC profiles included in the Icm folder on the User Software CD are for use with ColorWise Pro Tools. You can also use the ICC profiles with applications that support ICC standards, such as Photoshop. For most ICC-aware applications, the files must be installed in a folder named Color in the System folder. For use with ColorWise Pro Tools, you can copy the files to a folder of your choice.
You can upload additional ICC profiles with the Profile Manager in ColorWise ProTools. For more information on uploading and using ICC profiles with ColorWise Pro Tools, see the Color Guide.
TO INSTALL THE ICC PROFILES ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER
1. On the User Software CD, open the ICC folder.
2. If you are using Windows 98/Me, copy the profiles to the Windows\System\Color folder on your hard disk.
If you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000, copy the profiles to the Winnt\System32\Color folder on your hard disk.

install the profiles into it.

1. On the User Software CD, open the English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr folder. Select the folder that corresponds to the system you are using.
For Windows 98/Me, select English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr\Win_9x_ME or English\Prntdrvr\Pcl6_drvr\Win_9x_ME.
For Windows NT 4.0, select English\Prntdrvr\Ps_drvr\Win_NT4x or English\Prntdrvr\Pcl6_drvr\Win_NT4x.

The general steps for installing the Fiery X3e user software and setting up printing on a Mac OS computer are as follows:
•Install the PostScript printer driver and printer description file.
•Set up the Fiery X3e in the Chooser (Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X Classic mode) or in
the Print Center (Mac OS X Native mode).
•Install the Fiery utilities (Fiery Remote Scan, ColorWise Pro Tools, Fiery
Downloader, Command WorkStation LE, and Fiery Spooler).
• Configure the connection for Fiery utilities.
•Install the printer and screen fonts.
•Install the ColorSync profiles.
•Install additional color reference and application-specific files.
In addition to using the User Software CD, you can download printer drivers from the Fiery X3e with the Installer WebTool (if the site administrator has enabled Internet access to the Fiery X3e). For instructions, see page 3-2.
Once you download the printer files, the installation process is identical to installing from the User Software CD.
Setting up the Fiery X3e as a PostScript printer
To set up the Fiery X3e as a PostScript printer, you must install the PostScript printer driver and the printer description file that corresponds to your copier. The PostScript printer driver and printer description files are provided on the User Software CD. Printer drivers provide a way to communicate information on print jobs between your applications, the Fiery X3e, and any other PostScript printer connected to your computer.
When you install printer files from the User Software CD or printer files downloaded using the Installer WebTool, use the following procedures.

Setting up Mac OS 9.x printer drivers and printer description files
Instructions that follow are for Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X Classic Mode.
TO INSTALL THE ADOBEPS PRINTER DRIVER AND PRINTER
DESCRIPTION FILE FOR MAC OS 9.X
1. Quit all open applications.
After you have completed installation, restart your computer.
2. On the User Software CD, open the English: Printer Driver folder.
If you are installing from files you downloaded using the Installer WebTool, open the Printer Driver folder on your hard disk.
3. Double-click the AdobePS Installer icon.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
The AdobePS Installer installs the Adobe PostScript printer driver, and the printer description file that corresponds to the Fiery X3e.
NOTE: If you operate the Fiery X3e in a copy shop, quick print shop, or service bureau,
provide your customers with copies of the printer driver, printer description file, or ICC profiles you use for printing images, as well as any relevant documentation. This ensures that jobs they create and print to files are properly formatted for printing to the Fiery X3e.
Setting up the Fiery X3e in the Chooser
After you install the Adobe PostScript printer driver and printer description file (see
page 2-1), you must set up the Fiery X3e in the Chooser in order to take full advantage
of its features. This section describes how to set up the Fiery X3e with the AdobePS printer driver.

TO SET UP THE FIERY X3E IN THE CHOOSER
1. Select Chooser from the Apple menu.
Make sure AppleTalk is set to Active.
2. Select the correct AppleTalk Zone, if necessary.
3. Click the AdobePS icon.
The Fiery X3e appears in the Select a PostScript Printer list in the form of <server name>_<print connection>.
NOTE: Only the print connections (Direct, Hold, and Print) that have been enabled
in Setup appear in the Chooser.
4. Select a Fiery X3e connection from the “Select a PostScript Printer” list and click Create.
Select the correct printer description file for your printer.
NOTE: You must set up each print connection separately. Repeat this step for all
enabled connections.

5. With the same printer selected, click Setup, and then click Configure.
6. In the Installable Options dialog box, select the appropriate settings from the menus and click OK.

Setting up Mac OS X printer drivers and printer description files
The instructions that follow are for Mac OS X v.10.2.1 and later Native Mode.
The User Software CD contains the following software for Mac OS X:
• OSX Installer—this application installs the PostScript Printer Description files
(PPDs) necessary to print from Mac OS X v.10.2.1.
• Language folders—these folders contain copies of the files that will be installed by
the PPD Installer. It is not necessary to open these folders or install them on your computer; the appropriate files will be installed by the PPD Installer.

TO INSTALL THE PRINTER DESCRIPTION FILES FOR MAC OS X
1. Quit all open applications.
2. Make sure that Print Center is not running on your computer.
Print Center updates the list of available printers when it restarts; if a printer description file is added while Print Center is running, you cannot select the associated printer model until you restart Print Center.
3. Insert the User Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
4. Open the Printer Driver folder inside the OSX folder on the User Software CD.
5. Click the OSX Installer icon to start installing printer description files.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
The PPD Installer installs the printer description files that correspond to the Fiery X3e.
7. After you have completed installation, restart your computer.
Setting up the Fiery X3e in the Print Center
After you install the printer description file (see page 2-1), you must set up the Fiery X3e in the Print Center in order to take full advantage of its features. This section describes how to set up the Fiery X3e and configure installable options.
TO SET UP THE FIERY X3E IN THE PRINT CENTER
1. Start Print Center.
Click the Print Center icon. You can also select Applications from the Go menu, select Utilities, and then select Print Center.

2. Click Add in the Printer List window.
3. Select AppleTalk or IP printing in the pop-up menu.
For AppleTalk, choose the AppleTalk Zone and choose the name of the Fiery X3e.
For IP Printing, enter the IP address or DNS name for the Fiery X3e in the Printer’s
Address
field. Clear the Use default queue on server field. In the Queue Name field, enter print or hold. Make sure that LPR printing and the specified queue are enabled on the Fiery X3e. For more information about configuring TCP/IP printing, see the
Configuration Guide.
4. For Printer Model, select the appropriate file for your language and Fiery X3e, using one of the following methods:
Select a manufacturer name to display the list of all printer models for that manufacturer. Scroll through the list to select your copier model name. If you cannot find your printer model in the list for your copier manufacturer, look in the Fiery folders.
You can also choose Auto Select to have the system select the correct file for your printer. If there is more than one file that corresponds to your printer, a dialog box will display a list of all valid files. If there are multiple files with identical names, cancel the Auto Select and choose the correct file from the Printer Model list as described above.
5. Click Add.

Installing Fiery X3e software and fonts
The Mac OS installers function essentially the same for each type of software. Before you begin each installation, determine where you want to install each item on your hard disk. Otherwise, the software is placed by default as follows:
• ColorSync profiles—ColorSync Profiles folder
If you are using ColorSync 2.5, install the profiles into the ColorSync Profiles folder inside the System folder. If you are using an earlier version of ColorSync, install the profiles into the ColorSync Profiles folder inside the System:Preferences folder. The printer profile can be moved to a folder of your choice.
•Fiery Spooler, Fiery Downloader, Command WorkStation LE, and ColorWise Pro

1. Insert the User Software CD in the CD drive and double-click the Installer icon of the item you want to install, and then follow the instructions in the installer dialog boxes.
2. If prompted, click Quit to close the software installer.
In order to use ColorWise Pro Tools, Fiery Link, or Fiery Spooler, you must have Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) installed on your computer.
If you do not have the appropriate MRJ installed, the installer automatically initiates the MRJ installation process.
3. To Install MRJ, follow the instructions in the installer dialog boxes.

Installing MRJ on your computer

In order to use ColorWise Pro Tools, Fiery Link, or Fiery Spooler, you must have Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) installed on your computer.
If you do not have MRJ installed, the ColorWise Pro Tools, Fiery Link, or Fiery Spooler installer automatically initiates the MRJ installation process.
NOTE: The respective installer prompts the MRJ installation from the User Software
CD. MRJ 2.2.4 is provided on the User Software CD.
TO INSTALL MAC OS RUNTIME FOR JAVA
1. Open the MRJ folder on the User Software CD and double-click Installer.
2. Read the Apple Computer Inc. License Agreement and click Agree to install the software.
3. Click Install.
Some files are installed.
4. Click Quit.
You are now ready to configure the ColorWise Pro Tools, Fiery Spooler, and Fiery Link connections to the Fiery X3e.
We recommend that you use the version of MRJ provided on the User Software CD with the Fiery X3e software.
If you have a newer version of MRJ (such as 2.2.5) already installed on your computer and experience some difficulty using the Fiery X3e software, either remove or relocate the MRJ files currently installed and reinstall the version of MRJ provided on the User Software CD. Use the following procedure to uninstall MRJ.
TO UNINSTALL MAC OS RUNTIME FOR JAVA
1. Locate the System Folder on your hard disk.
2. Inside the Extensions folder, locate MRJ Libraries and remove it or move it to another folder.

NOTE: If you find the “MRJ Enabler” file under Extensions, remove it or move it to
another folder.
3. On Mac OS 8.6, locate the Apple Extras folder on your hard disk. On Mac 9.x, locate the Apple Extras folder inside the Applications folder on your hard disk.
4. Inside the Apple Extras folder, locate Mac OS Runtime for Java, and remove it or move it to another folder.
5. Restart your computer.
Configuring a connection for ColorWise Pro Tools
The first time you use ColorWise Pro Tools, you are prompted to configure a connection to the Fiery X3e.
NOTE: ColorWise Pro Tools are supported only over TCP/IP networks.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Print the Configuration page from the Control Panel and note the IP address of the Fiery X3e.
TO CONFIGURE A CONNECTION FOR COLORWISE PRO TOOLS
