Connect0Vonthe24 Vfeedtotheground,see4indrawingabove. Thisoffersthreeadvantages:
Safetyisincreased. The24Vfeedwillnotbeliveintheeventofafaultyconnectionor shortcircuit

Transientsonthe24Vfeedareconnectedtotheground.
Noriskthatthe24Vfeedisatahighlevelinrelationshiptotheground. Thisisnotunusualsince

Ifanumberofunitsareconnectedthathavea0Vandagroundconnection,andtheseareconnected tovariousgroundingpoints,thereisasubstantialriskofproblems. Groundingcurrentsgothrough communicationcables,therearplateofthecontroller,andinternallyintheoperatorpanel,andcan causeerrors.
Useexternalunitstoimprovecommunicationandachievegalvanicisolation. Westermohasgood industry-standardinsulatorsthatarealsoinsulatedfromthe24VDCfeed.
Note:
Itisveryimportant tomakesure thatthe24 Vfeedinthe externalinsulationunitisnotconnectedtoone ofthe communicationoutlets. Ifitdoes nothave100% insulationagainstthe24Vfeed,disturbancesandgrounding currentsfromthe0Vonthe24Vsidewilldisruptcommunication. Usingthistypeof unitsolvesone problembutcreates alargerproblem! Asubstandardinstallationmayworknow, butproblemsmayarisewhenotherdevicesareconnected.
