1 Getting Started

Congratulations on your purchase of the KODAK EASYSHARE DX3700 Digital Camera.

What Can I Do With My Camera?

Capture Enjoy point-and-shoot operation. Store pictures in the camera’s 8 MB internal memory or on an optional, removable MultiMedia (MMC) or Secure Digital (SD) card.
Review Display your pictures on the LCD screen and delete unwanted pictures.
Set Up Select camera settings.

What Can I Do With My Digital Pictures?

After you install the included software:
Transfer pictures to your computer. E-mail pictures to friends and family. Print to your home printer, make prints at a KODAK Picture Maker kiosk, or
take your MMC/SD card to your photo retailer for printing. Have fun! Add special effects; make a slide show; fix red-eye; crop and rotate;
and much more.

Attaching the Wrist Strap and Lens Cap

Thread the wrist strap as shown.
Thread the lens cap string through the loop in the wrist strap as shown in the inset.

Loading the Battery

A KODAK Lithium Battery, KCRV3 (or equivalent) is included.*
1 Open the battery door. 2 Insert the battery as shown. 3 Close the battery door.
NOTE: If the battery is removed after Date/Time
are set (page 27), the camera will retain the settings for approximately 10 minutes.
See page 62 for the types of batteries you can use in your camera. For acceptable battery life and to make sure your camera operates dependably, do not use alkaline batteries.
NOTE: * AA lithium batteries may be provided. If your camera was packaged
with a KODAK EASYSHARE Camera Dock, the KODAK Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack is provided. For details on charging and loading the Battery Pack, see page 42.

Turning the Camera On and Off

Power button
NOTE: The first time the camera is turned on, the Language and Date/Time
need to be set. (See page 27.) If the batteries are removed for an extended time, the Date/Time need to be reset.
1 To turn the camera on, press the power
button until the ready light glows.
The ready light glows orange while the camera performs a self-check. When the ready light glows steady green (and the Mode selector is set to Capture ) the camera is ready to take pictures.
In Capture mode, the status bar is briefly displayed on the LCD. See page 7 for an explanation of the status bar icons.
2 To turn the camera off, press the power
button until the ready light turns off.
The camera completes any Save, Delete, or Copy operations that are in process.

Checking the Battery Level

Check the battery power level before taking pictures. For guidelines on battery usage, see page 62.
1 Turn the camera on. 2 Check the battery status symbol that appears on the LCD.
Full — batteries have adequate power. Low —batteries need to be replaced or recharged soon. Exhausted (blinking) batteries are too weak to power the
camera. Replace or recharge the batteries. When the batteries are exhausted, the ready light blinks red for 5 seconds,
then the camera turns off.
IMPORTANT BATTERY INFORMATION For acceptable battery life and dependable operation, do not use
alkaline batteries.
These activities can shorten battery life:
m Using the LCD as the viewfinder (see page 12) m Reviewing your pictures on the LCD (see page 13) m Excessive use of the flash
NOTE: If you are using a KODAK EASYSHARE Camera Dock, keep your camera
docked there for constant Battery Pack charging. For details on using the EASYSHARE Camera Dock, see page 39.

Automatic Powerdown Saves Batteries

The powerdown feature extends battery life by turning off the LCD or camera power when the camera is inactive.

Checking Camera Status

In Capture mode, press the button on the 4-way controller at any time to check which camera settings are active.
1 Slide the Mode selector to Capture and turn the camera on. 2 Press the button on the 4-way controller.
The current camera status icons are briefly displayed on the LCD. If an icon is not displayed, that camera feature is not currently activated.

Inserting an Optional MMC/SD Card

To insert a card:
1 Turn the camera off. 2 Open the card door.

3 Orient the card as shown. 4 Push the card into the slot to seat the
connector. Close the door.
CAUTION:
The card can only be inserted one way. Forcing the card may damage your camera.
Use only certified cards that carry the MultiMedia (MMC) or Secure Digital (SD) logo. See page 65 for storage capacities.

To remove a card:
1 Turn the camera off. 2 Open the card door. 3 Push the end of the card in, then release it.
When it is partially ejected, remove the card.
CAUTION:
Do not insert or remove a card when the ready light is blinking. Doing so may damage your pictures, card, or camera.

Choosing Internal or Removable Memory

If an MMC/SD card is inserted in the camera, new pictures are stored on the card. If no card is inserted, new pictures are stored in internal memory.
NOTE: You can capture pictures in internal memory, then copy them to an
MMC/SD card (see page 25). You cannot copy pictures from a card to internal memory.

2 Taking Pictures

2 Frame your subject using the viewfinder, or
turn Preview on (see page 12) and use the LCD.

CAUTION:

The ready light blinks orange when the flash is recharging. If necessary, wait for the flash to charge before taking the next picture.

Previewing Your Picture on the LCD

When the Preview feature is on, you can use the LCD as a viewfinder. NOTE: Preview is required when you are using the Digital Zoom (see
page 15) feature.
To turn Preview on:
4-way Controller
1 Slide the Mode selector to Capture . 2 Press the button on the 4-way
controller.
The LCD displays a live image and the status bar.
3 Center your subject in the LCD, and press
the Shutter button halfway down to set the exposure and focus. Press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture.
4 To turn Preview off, press the button.

Displaying the Picture Just Taken

The QuickView feature displays a picture on the LCD immediately after you take it. While the picture is displayed, you can delete it to conserve storage space.

The picture is briefly displayed on the LCD with the icon.
To Delete the picture just taken:
1 While the is displayed, press the Delete
button.

Using the Flash

Use the flash when taking pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows. The flash is effective 1.6 to 7.9 feet (0.5 to 2.4 m).

Auto FlashUse for subjects other than people.
FillUse when bright light comes from behind the subject.
Red-eyeUse for people and animals.
OffUse in existing light or when flash is prohibited.
NOTE: All flash options revert to Auto when the camera is turned off.
Press the button repeatedly to scroll through the flash options.
The flash icon that is displayed on the LCD Status Bar is the active option.

Using the Digital Zoom

This camera provides a 2X and 3X digital zoom.*
1 Set the Mode selector to Capture . 2 Press the button to turn Preview on. Use
the LCD to frame your subject.
3 Press the Select/Digital Zoom button for 2X
zoom. Press again for 3X zoom. Press again to return to 1X (no zoom).

* You may notice a decrease in printed image quality when using digital zoom. See “Resolution and Print Sizes on page 19.
The LCD displays the image and the magnification level.
