ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
In the United Kingdom, the ELECTRICITY AT WORK ACT 1989 requires all portable electrical appliances, if used on business premises, to be tested by a qualified electrician, using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT), at least once a year. The HEALTH & SAFETY A T WORK ACT 1974 makes owners of electrical appliances responsible for the safe condition of the appliance and the safety of its operator. If in any doubt about electrical safety, contact a qualified electrician.

TROUBLESHOOTING
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Air leaks at connections.
The non-return valve seal is defective.
The overload cut-out has operated because of the motor overheating or the voltage supply to the motor is low.
The motor windings have burnt out.
The capacitor has burnt out.
The air compressors head gasket has broken or the valve is faulty.
The air compressors head gasket has broken or the valve is faulty.
The pressure switch needs adjusting.
The tank is full of water due to condensation.
SOLUTION
Let the compressor build pressure in the tank; to the maximum pressure if possible. Switch off. Brush soapy water on air connections and look carefully for air bubbles. Tighten leaking connections. If the fault persists, contact your local Kobe agent.
Let the air in the tank flow out until all the pressure is released. Then remove the non return-valve plug and clean the valve seat. If necessary replace the ‘O’ ring seal and then remount all the components (See fig. 10).
Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the specifications. An extension cable, which is too thin and too long, can cause the motor to overheat. Leave the air compressor to cool down as the thermal cut out has operated. Use heavy duty extension cables. Ensure that the compressor is plugged into a socket as near to the consumer unit/fuse box as possible.
Contact your local Kobe agent.
Replace the starter capacitor.
Stop the air compressor and contact your local Kobe agent.
Stop the air compressor and contact your local Kobe agent.
Stop the air compressor and contact your local Kobe agent.
Connect an air hose with a low gun fitted and release the pressure. Open the drain valve underneath the air compressor and release the water within the tank.
FAULT
Pressure drops.
The pressure switch valve leaks when the compressor is idle.
The compressor has stopped, does not start or starts slowly
The compressor has stopped, does not start.
The motor does not start and makes a humming noise.
The air compressor is noisy with metallic clangs.
The air compressor does not reach the maximum pressure.
The air compressor doesn’t seem to provide as much air as it did when new and the air compressor cuts off within a much shorter time period.
Repairs must be performed in a dirt-free environment by a qualified person who is familiar with this type of equipment. Make sure the air receiver tank is de-pressurised before carrying out any repairs.

PLEASE NOTE: This air compressor is not designed for continuous use.
The air compressor is oil free and therefore does not require any lubricants for it to run. (Please note: the air tool itself, will still need to be lubricated. Please see your air tool instruction manual for the individual tool requirement).
The air compressor should not be used in dusty e nvironments. The w arranty does not cover damage
caused by a blocked air filter.
It is important that the air compressor is positioned so t hat there is an adequate airflow around the machine. The compressor should be situated so that it has a 50cm of obstacle free space around its air receiver tank and pump/motor unit.
Use extra lengths of hose rather than extension leads. Extension leads which are too long, can cause the motor to overheat.
The air tool that you attach to the air compressor should have a preferred PSI ope rati ng level . 2.5 bar is reco mmen ded for spr ayin g and 6. 0 is recommended for air tools. To determine the correct working pressure and air flow requirements for any piece of equipment, check the corresponding manual. Be aware that the air flow figure stated on tools and accessories ref er s to ‘F ree Ai r Deliv er y’ and not the pis to n displ ac eme nt of the compressor.
STARTING UP
Mak e sure the on/of f lever is in the off posit ion (S ee fig. 5) befo re conne cting to the power supply. Connect the compress or to th e powe r supply.
Mov e the on/o ff lev er to the on po sit io n, the com pre ss or will st art (See fig. 3). Rotate the air outlet pressure regulator to the desired output (See fig. 4) clockwise to increas e the pressure or c ounter clockwise to decrease the pressure and fix with locking ring.
Air is now dr awn from the c ompressor. Check that the mo tor/pump unit automatically starts, when the pressure falls by approximately 2 bar. If the motor does no t cut in and out, but runs continuously when u sing an air app lia nce , the capac ity of the co mpr ess or may be to o small for th e equipment or tool.
Under normal use when the air compressor is running correctly you will hear the following: a) When the air compressor starts from no pressure within the tank, there is
a whistle of ‘leaking’ air from the pressure switch for about 20 seconds (With the air outlet tap closed).
b) Whenever the motor stops there would be a quick sudden discharge of air
(This is the discharge of air from the head).
SAFETY BLOW OFF VALVE
The safety blow off valve (See fig. 7) is preset to release air if the tank exceeds its maximum pressure.
DO NOT try to adjust the safety blow off valve pressure setting.
SHUTTING DOWN
Never stop the air compressor by unplugging it. Turn the on/off lever to the OFF position to switch the air compressor off (See fig. 5). The on/off switch must always be used as this ensures that air is discharged from the head. This makes the starting easier for the motor and prevents motor damage.

AIR TOOLS
OPERATION
Fig. 3
Fig. 4
OFF
Fig. 5
+
Ensure the air compressor is disconnected from the electrical supply and cannot operate accidentally when servicing or cleaning. If a guard or safety feature needs to be removed during maintenance, be sure to replace the guards or safety feature before resuming operation of the air compressor.
THE AIR RECEIVER TANK
Compressin g air causes moisture, which is present in the air t o condensat e on the insi de of the air receiver tank. This water can damage your air tools and produce a poor finish when spraying paint. It also damages the inside of the compressor and reduces its performance. It is important that the air receiver tank is drained daily to increase the life span of the compressor and air tools. This is done by first opening the air outlet pressure regulator to discharge the pressure. Place a container under the brass drain valve on the unde rsi de of the air re cei ver ta nk and then uns cre w the thumb scr ew on the drain val ve anticlockwise (See fig. 6). Any water present in the air receiver tank should now flow out. As there is no lubrication used in this compressor, the water is not polluted and can be disposed of in the sewer system.
THE AIR FILTER
The air filter must be cleaned or replaced monthly, or more frequently if the compressor is in regular use. The air filter elemen t can be access ed easi ly by unscrewin g the wingnut holding the air filter cover assembly and removing the filter element (see Figs.8 & 9). To clean a lightly soiled air filter, use soapy water and leave to dry thoroughly.
SAFETY BLOW OFF VALVE
Occasionally check that the safety blow off valve is working properly by firstly cleaning any dirt or dust from around the valve and then pull the metal ring to ensure the valve will release air (See fig. 7). The pressure safety valve must be replaced if it cannot be pulled, or it leaks after releasing pressure. Releasing the
safety blow off valve can be extremely loud. Make sure you wear hearing protection.
CLEANING
Clean the air compressor with a soft brush or a cloth moistened with a suitable biodegradable solvent. Do not use inflammable liquids like petrol or alcohol, they are a fire risk and will also damage the paint finish and plastic components.
CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS
Check for break age of parts, mou ntings and other conditions that m ay affect the ope ration of the air compres sor. An au thorised service and repair centre should properly repair a damaged part, unless indicated otherwise in this operator’s manual.
STORAGE
When not in use, run the air tool to relieve the air pressure in the hos e, then remov e the to ol and the ai r ho se. The air compressor should be stored in the dry, out of re ach of children and in a frost-free environment.
