Knoll VI1x6 Installation Guide

VI1x6
Six room speaker-stereo interface Installation instructions
Warning: To be installed and/or used in accordance with appropriate local electrical
codes and regulations.
The VI1x6 stereo interface is also used to set individual volumes in each room. Parallel or series speaker wiring is acceptable. Maximum power input is 150 watts per channel. The VI1x6 features an incredible "ultra" music quality frequency response of DC to 500,000 Hz +/-0.1dB at all power levels up to 200 watts due to its transformer-free topology.
Depending on the quantity and type of speakers chosen, the VI1x6 may offer the amplifier impedance as low as 4 ohms, so we suggest that your amplifier (or receiver) be rated for 4-ohm (or lower) operation. The VI1x6 is usually but does not have to be stacked with the stereo equipment and does not need a power supply.
Basic System Layout and Pre-Wiring: The VI1x6 is usually stacked with the stereo equipment. It may get warm or a bit hot, so it needs ventilation for maximum power and longest life. Don’t cover or block the vent holes. Take care to mount it away from anything that can be damaged by heat.
From each speaker run a fire rated two-conductor speaker wire, ideally 16 gauge or larger for runs up to 33’ (10m) and 14 gauge or larger for longer runs to the VI1x6 stereo interface (or volume control then to the interface). To save time and money, many installers run a four-conductor speaker wire from the volume control to the stereo interface. If there is more than one pair of speakers connected to a single VI1x6 room connection, wire the speakers in series or parallel whichever makes the impedance closest to 4 or 8 ohms.
Do not attempt to make the final combined speaker impedance less than 4 ohms.

speaker connectors. The stereo amplifier or receiver outputs (left and right) are connected to the VI1x6 connector labeled “INPUT”. Be very careful to observe the correct polarity. The VI1x6 uses independent floating grounds so bridged amplifiers can be used safely.
Connection to Speakers: Remove the remaining VI1x6 four-position speaker connectors. Connect the speakers or volume control inputs to any of the six connectors labeled “ROOM” again strictly observing polarity. Check out or web site www.knollsystems.com
for information on series and parallel speaker wiring.
Operation: Except for individual volume control adjustments, the Knöll VI1x6 is completely automatic and does not need any user adjustments after installation. The VI1x6m can turn rooms of speakers on and off and set individual volumes as desired in any combination.
