Knoll VC200 Installation Guide

VC200 Series Digital Stereo Volume Controls
The digital volume control is a two-piece system consisting of a VC220 or VC220pm controller and a VC200 keypad, VC201 keypad or VCI28 computer interface. The controller is usually located in an electrical room, low voltage panel, closet or near the stereo. From one to three VC200 or VC201 keypads can be connected to each VC220/VC220pm. The keypad is connected to the VC200/VC220pm controller with low cost cat3 or cat5 wire. The VC220/VC220pm V-pad design does not generate heat like a transformer or L-pad that can dissipate large amounts of power in low and off positions creating early failures, wall damage or even a fire hazard. Nor is there any sonic degradation at low operating levels. Instead the VC220/VC220pm presents the listener with a full frequency response and original dynamic range at all volume positions and power levels. The stereo signal passes to the speakers without the compression effect associated with all transformer based volume controls. Knöll V-pad transformer-free technology is the best and most reliable solution for new construction, renovations and upgrades of existing stereo systems.

Wire Requirements
Speaker wire for the VC220/VC220pm should be copper, 14-18 gauge. Runs longer than 33' (10m) should be minimum 14 gauge wire. Two wire pairs (left & right) are run from the stereo amplifier or receiver (or looped from any other VC220pm input) to the VC220pm inputs, then one wire pair continues to each speaker. When "pre-wiring", leave an extra 3' (1m) at each end to allow easy component installation. A cat 3 or cat 5 eight conductor wire is run from the VC200pm to the nearest keypad. Wire from multiple keypads can be lopped or home run. Keypads with internal infrared receivers do not require any extra wiring from the keypads to the controllers. A 12VDC power supply (such as the PS1202) for the VC220/VC220pm's needs to be located at the stereo and plugged into the receiver and plugged into the receivers switched outlet. One PS1202 can power upto 5 VC220pm's.
