KMC Controls CTC-4001, CTC-4004 Installation Manual

3-Way, Switching, Duct Thermostat
Installation Guide
CTC-4001/4004
Mounting
1. Drill a 5/8" diameter hole in the duct work.
2. Insert the thermostat in the duct.
3. Secure with sheet metal screws fastened through the two 3/16" (5 mm) mounting holes.
Connections
General
The CTC-4001 and CTC-4004 are not snap-acting.
The unit must be below or above the setpoint range to completely switch. At temperatures within the setpoint range, all three ports are connected.
The setpoint adjustment allows ranges to be moved up 5° F or down 10° from the default values.
The CTC-4001 and CTC-4004 use 1/4" (6 mm) OD polyethylene tubing for all connections. Make necessary connections based on the model.
CTC-4001
• Port C is the (ltered) common
• Port A is closed above 75° F (24° C)
• Port B is closed below 70° F (21° C)
NOTE: For the CTC-4001, when temperature
is below 70° F (21° C), ports A and C are connected, but B is blocked. When temperature is above 75° F (24° C), ports B and C are connected, but A is blocked. Between 70 and 75° F, all ports are connected.

CTC-4004
• Port C is the (ltered) common
• Port A is closed above 70° F (21° C)
• Port B is closed below 65° F (18° C)
NOTE: For the CTC-4004, when temperature
is below 65° F (18° C), ports A and C are connected, but B is blocked. When temperature is above 70° F (21° C), ports B and C are connected, but A is blocked. Between 65 and 70° F, all ports are connected.
Adjustments and Calibration
Sample Application
Minor adjustment is required if a dierent setpoint is desired.
1. Turn the setpoint adjustment clockwise to increase (counter-clockwise to decrease). The range may be moved up 5° F or down 10° F.
2. Obtain two thermometers and two containers of tempered liquid that match the high and low temperatures of the new setpoint span.
3. Move the CTC-4001/4004 thermostat between the containers, allowing sucient time for the element to stabilize.
4. With the element in the “low” container, turn the setpoint adjustment until port B is closed to port C.
5. Then move it to the “high” container and verify that port A is closed to port C.
6. Minor adjustment will be required in both containers to obtain the desired 5° switching band.

Reversing Relay
CTC-400x Duct Thermostat will pass a DA or RA signal to the CSC VAV Volume Controller when the airstream temperature switches between heating and cooling

NOTE: If the ltered port C on the CTC-400x is
used as an “output” (as shown in this example), the air to ports A and C must be from a ltered source or ltered with an external lter (such as an HFO-0006).
NOTE: The CTC-400x is for low-volume
applications. Ports A and B are each restricted with a 0.015" nozzle.
Maintenance
Port C has a non-replaceable built-in lter to prevent dirt from hindering the switching action of ports A and B. If the lter becomes clogged, replace the CTC-4001/4004 thermostat.
No routine maintenance is required. Care should be taken to keep the unit clean from dust during installation. Each component is designed for dependable, long-term reliability, and performance. Careful installation will also ensure long-term reliability and performance.
CAUTION
Pneumatic devices must be supplied with clean, dry control air. Any other medium (e.g., oil or moisture contamination) will cause the device to fail.
