TRACTOR SET-UP
Moving The Tractor Manually
Yourtractor'stransmissionisequippedwitha hydrostaticreliefvalve
foroccasionswhenitis necessaryto movethe tractormanually.Open-
ingthisvalvepermitsthefluidin the transmissionto bypassitsnormal
route,allowingthereartiresto "freewheel."Toopenthehydrostatic
reliefvalve,proceedasfollows:
1. Locatethehydrostaticbypassrodinthe rearof thetractor.See
Figure1.

Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystemfortheprotection
ofthe operator.Ifthe interlocksystemshouldevermalfunction,do not

• The safetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromcrankingor
startingunlessthe parkingbrakeisengaged,andthe PTO(Blade
Engage)handleisinthedisengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoffif theoperatorleavesthe
seatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
• TheelectricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshut

positionandthetractorwillmaintainthe sameforwardspeed.If it
doesn't,thecruisecontrolis notengaged.Repeatsteps1through4to

Todisengagethe cruisecontrol,lightlypressthedrivepedalor the
brakepedal.
NOTE:Cruisecontrolcannotbesetatthetractor'sfastestground
speed.If theoperatorshouldattempttodo so,thetractorwillautomati-
callydeceleratetothefastestoptimalmowinggroundspeed.
Tochangethedirectionof travelfromforwardto reversewhencruise
controlisengaged,pressthebrakepedalto disengagethecruise
controlandbringthetractortoa completestop.Thenslowlypressthe
reversepedalwiththeballofyourfootto travelinreverse.

Toraisethecuttingdeck,movethedecklift leverto theleft,thenplace
itin thenotchbestsuitedforyourapplication.

• AlwaysoperatethetractorwiththethrottleleverintheFAST
(rabbit)positionwhilemowing.
• Forbestresultsit isrecommendedthatthe first twolaps becut
withthedischargethrowntowardsthecenter.Afterthefirsttwo
laps, reversethedirectionto throwthedischargeto theoutside
forthe balanceofcutting.Thiswillgivea betterappearanceto the
lawn.
DoNOTattemptto mowheavybrushand weedsorextremelytall
grass.Yourtractorisdesignedtomowlawns,NOTclearbrush.
• Keepthebladessharpandreplacethebladeswhenworn.

CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION DRIVE
BELT
Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W20,10W30,etc.)improvestarting
incoldweather,theywill resultinincreasedoilconsumptionwhen
usedabove32°RCheckyourengineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid
possibleenginedamagefromrunninglowon oil.
Tochecktheengineoil,proceedasfollows:
1. Ensurethatthetractoris on a levelsurface.
2. Cleanthe oilfill areaof anydebris.
3. Removethedipstickandwipewitha cleancloth.
4. Insertandtightendipstick.
5. Removethedipstickandchecktheoil level.It shouldbeatthe
Fullmarkon thedipstick.SeeFigure19.
Severalcomponentsmustberemovedandspecialtoolsusedin order
tochangethetractor'stransmissiondrivebelt.Seea Searsor other

Deck Wash System

Usethedeckwashtorinsegrassclippingsfromthe deck'sunderside

stepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Drivethe tractortoa level,clearspotonyourlawn,nearenough
foryourgardenhosetoreach.
Makecertainthetractor'sdischargechuteis directedAWAYfromyour
house,garage,parkedcars,etc.
2. Disengagethe PTO(BladeEngage),setthe parkingbrakeand
stoptheengine.
3. Threadthehosecoupler(packagedwithyourtractor'sOperator's
Manual)ontotheendofyourgardenhose.
4. Attachthe hosecouplertothewaterport onyourdeckssurface.

deck.Adjustif necessaryasfollows:
1. Parkthe tractorparkedona firm,level surfaceandplacethe deck
lift leverinthemiddleposition.
2. Rotatethebladenearestthedischargechutecoverso thatit is
parallelwiththetractor.
3. Measurethe distancefromthefrontof thebladetip totheground
andtherearofthebladetip totheground.Thefirstmeasurement
takenshouldbebetween1/4"and 3/8"lessthan thesecond
measurement.
Determinetheapproximatedistancenecessaryfor properadjustment
and proceed,if necessary.
1. To raisethefrontof thedeck,tighten(threadinward)thelocknut
againstthefronthangerbracket.See Figure26.
2. Tolowerthefrontofthedeck,loosen(threadoutward)thelock

IMPORTANT:Fuelleftinthefueltankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwillcauseseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionoftheengine,thefuelsystemmust
beeithercompletelyemptied,or thegasolinemustbetreatedwitha
stabilizerto preventdeterioration.
If usingafuelstabilizer:
a. Readthe productmanufacturer'sinstructionsand recom-
mendations.
b. Addtoclean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountofstabilizer
forthecapacityofthefuelsystem.
c. Fill thefueltankwithtreatedfueland runtheenginefor2-3
minutestogetstabilizedfuelintothecarburetor.
If emptyingthefuelsystem:
a. Donotdrainfuelwhentheengineis hot.Allowtheengine
adequatetimetocool. Drainfuelintoan approvedcontainer
outdoors,awayfromopenflame.
b. Drainany largevolumeoffuelfromthetankbydisconnect-
ingthefuellinefromthein-linefuelfilterneartheengine.

• Do notusea pressurewasherorgardenhosetocleanyour
unit.
• Storemowerina dry,cleanarea.Donotstorenextto
corrosivematerials,suchasfertilizer.
Gasolineisextremelyflammableandcanbeexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringtheequipmentforextended
periods.Drainfuelonlyintoan approvedcontaineroutdoors,away
fromanopenflame.Allowengineto cool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andother sourcesofignitionpriortodrainingfuel.
Storegasolinein anapprovedcontainerin safelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuellineandruntheengineuntilit startsto
falter,thenusethe choketo keeptheenginerunninguntilall
fuelin thecarburetorhasbeenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuel lineanddrainanyremaininggasoline
fromthesystem.
Gasolineisa toxicsubstance.Disposeof gasolineproperly.Contact
yourlocal authoritiesforapproveddisposalmethods.
Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceofengineoilthrough
thesparkplugholeintothe cylinder.Cranktheengineseveraltimesto
distributetheoil. Replacethe sparkplug.
