Klipsch Complete Home Theater
Klipsch has long been a leader in the manufacture of home theater loudspeakers, building on its heritage of developing custom sound systems for professional movie theaters. This expertise is put to good use in developing integrated speaker systems for home theater applications. While each Klipsch speaker must meet certain specific criteria on its own, it is the careful and deliberate design of the speakers as a system that results in even and all-encompassing sound. Voice, or timbre, matching ensures that the resulting outputs have similar sonic characteristics, meaning as sound moves throughout the listening area from speaker to speaker, it is seamless and enveloping.
For a truly complete home theater, you need closely matched components capable of accurately
reproducing all of the detail and dynamic range of the source material. Klipsch recommends the
following grouping of components to complete your Klipsch Legend Home Theater:

6. Tighten the foot by hand to secure the assembly. Repeat this procedure for the other spike assemblies.
Refer to Figure 1.
The feet can be adjusted to compensate for an uneven floor. For maximum stability and strength, leave as much of the threaded rod in the cabinet fitting as possible. Use just enough exposed spike to penetrate the carpet and pad and lift the speaker off of the carpet.
If the blunt end of the rod does not thread easily into the cabinet fitting, “chase” the threads by threading one of the supplied jamb nuts onto the pointed end of the rod and running it to the other end to clear the threads.
!
The KLF 10 comes with fixed spikes, installed at the factory, with spike covers for hard floors. For best results on carpeted floors, remove these covers after determining the optimal location for your speakers.
HOW TO CONNECT THE LEGEND SERIES TOWERS
Switch your electronics OFF when making all connections! Connect your Legend KLFs to the “Front” or “Main,” left and right channels of your system’s power amplifier. Be sure to observe proper polarity (+ to + and - to -) and avoid having excess bare wire at the connectors which could short together causing possible amplifier damage. Refer to “About Speaker Wire Connections” for more details.
Bi-Wire or Bi-Amp Connections
The KLF 20 and KLF 30 are equipped with two pairs of input terminals to facilitate a bi-wire or bi-amp hookup. In both cases, separate speaker cables are used to carry the high and low frequency signals independently to each speaker. This results in a reduction in distortion and an increase in clarity and detail.
Remove coupling straps for bi-wire or bi-amp connections.
In a bi-wire hookup, the high and low frequency cables are connected to the same channel of one power amplifier or receiver. Please consult your dealer for details regarding connection of multiple speaker cables to the speaker outputs of your specific amplifier. You can also use two pair of “Front” or “Main” speaker terminals on your amplifier (A and B) if they are internally wired in parallel.
In a bi-amp configuration, the high and low frequency cables are connected to separate amplifiers. This type of hookup can increase the dynamic range of your system because of the potential increase in available amplifier power for high and low frequency drivers. It also allows the use of two amplifiers with different tonal qualities to be used for the high and low frequency ranges. Since this often requires the use of differing brands of pre-amp and power amplifiers, which may not be compatible, consult your dealer for guidance.

Klipsch Legend Series Center Channel
The Legend KLF-C7 is designed specifically for use as a center channel. As such, it uses magnetic shielding in all of its drivers to minimize picture discoloration and distortion from stray magnetic fields.
PLACEMENT OF THE CENTER CHANNEL
The center channel should be placed above or below (or behind, in the case of a perforated front projection screen) the center line of the video screen since these sounds are intended to appear to be coming from the central area of the image. A center channel speaker improves the intelligibility of dialogue in complex passages and keeps these sounds anchored to the central area of the screen even when the viewing seat is not centrally located.
Installation of the KLF-C7 Feet
The KLF-C7 is supplied with a pair of adjustable feet to angle the speaker up or down depending on placement. Aim the speaker directly at listening height. If the KLF-C7 does not need to be angled, cover the threaded inserts on the bottom of the cabinet with the self-stick rubber pads supplied.
The Adjustable Foot Kit Contains:
2–Threaded Spikes (one end pointed, the other blunt) 2–Jam Nuts 2–Vinyl Caps 4–Self-Stick Rubber Feet
For Low Placement, angle the KLF-C7 upward by screwing the two threaded rods into the inserts at the front edge of the cabinet.
For High Placement, angle the KLF-C7 down by screwing the two threaded rods into the inserts at the rear edge of the cabinet.
!
To Install the Adjustable Feet:
1. Thread the jamb nut onto the pointed end of the threaded spike.
2. Screw the threaded spikes (pointed end into the cabinet) into

Switch your electronics OFF when making all connections! To use a center channel speaker, your receiver, or signal processor, must have a designated center channel output. Connect your KLF-C7 to the “Center Channel” output terminal of your system’s power amplifier. Be sure to observe proper polarity (+ to + and - to -) and avoid having excess bare wire at the connectors, which could short together causing possible amplifier damage. Refer to “About Speaker Wire Connections.”

Klipsch Dedicated Surround Speakers
Klipsch’s dedicated surrounds are designed for use as surround sound speakers in home theater or multi-channel audio/video applications. They are NOT intended for use as main or front speakers (left, center or right).
Surround speakers work in combination with other speakers adding dynamic realism and special effects impact by virtue of their high efficiency and wide dispersion pattern. The surrounds’ high sensitivity facilitates realistic sound levels (loudness) for surround-channel applications. A 3 dB increase in sensitivity is equivalent to doubling the wattage of your power amplifier.
Klipsch surround speakers feature the exclusive Wide-Dispersion Surround Technology™. This technology utilizes two horn tweeters aligned at 90° to one another to create an optimal 180° soundfield. The resulting wide and evenly dispersed soundfield delivers both the direct, localized sounds and the ambient effects that make it perfectly suited for rear channel surround applications. This unique Klipsch approach is ideal for the latest multi-channel 5.1 (Dolby Digital®and DTS®) soundtracks on DVD and laser disc formats, making Klipsch truly “Digital Ready.”
PLACEMENT OF THE KLIPSCH SURROUND SPEAKERS
One of the principal advantages of Klipsch’s unique Wide-Dispersion Surround Technology is greater placement flexibility. Due to the full 180° coverage pattern, you can place these speakers on the rear wall, side walls or even on the ceiling. The most common placement is on the side walls, adjacent to the listening/viewing area, or on the rear wall facing the front of the room. A height of approximately five to seven feet from the floor to the base of the cabinet is recommended.
An alternative placement would be on the ceiling either directly above or several feet behind the listening area. In a ceiling installation, the speaker can be oriented with drivers facing either the front and rear of the room or the side walls to compensate for room shape and layout. Optimal surround speaker placement is highly dependent upon individual room layout and the resulting acoustics. Experiment with speaker placement until you achieve a desirable balance of envelopment and directional cues. Consult your Klipsch dealer for more specific guidance on placement to suit your particular home theater room.
About Speaker Wire Connections
When making any type of speaker wire connection, be sure to observe the proper polarity. Most speaker wire is color-coded or has some distinguishing feature differentiating the two conductors. Speaker wire connectors on most loudspeakers and amplifiers are also color-coded. Typically, Red is positive (+) and Black is negative (-), or ground. It does not matter which wire conductor is connected to the positive or negative connection of your equipment as long as you are consistent. Be sure that the connections from the amp to the speaker on all of the various channels of your system are connected in a like manner. Be careful not to have excess bare wire or loose strands of wire that could short from positive to negative as this could damage the speaker and amplifier.
If one speaker in a stereo pair is out of phase relative to the other (one speaker has the positive and negative terminals reversed), you will hear no center stereo image and a reduction in the amount of bass. To remedy this, check all the connections to make sure both speakers are connected to the amplifier in the same fashion, with positive to positive and negative to negative. High quality speaker cable can make an audible improvement in the sound of your speakers. Your Klipsch dealer can assist you with selecting the proper cable to ensure optimal performance from your loudspeakers.
Page 10
Your Klipsch dealer can advise and consult on other combinations that will be well-matched, though the above system was designed and tested by Klipsch Engineering for the ultimate in home theater performance.
The demands of the latest source materials, such as six-channel motion picture sound and multi-
channel music recordings, have made matched speaker systems of paramount importance. To duplicate all the effects movie directors and sound engineers have built into today’s films, you need faithful reproduction of the original signals, precise directional information and accurate dynamic expression.
Klipsch design specifies that each of its speakers meet these criteria.
Klipsch Legend Series Towers
The KLF 20 and KLF 30 towers are three-way designs using two distinct horn-loaded compression
drivers, one for high frequencies and another for midrange frequencies. By optimizing each horn for
the frequency range desired, Klipsch has achieved remarkable performance across a wide bandwidth.
The new 90°x 60° Tractrix®Horn is mated to a 1.5" diameter compression driver for unparalleled
dynamics, sensitivity and power handling. An exponential horn with a tighter 90ºx 40º coverage
pattern is used for frequencies above 7000 Hz and is connected to a high performance 1" compres-
sion driver.
The KLF 10 towers and KLF-C7 center channel utilize the same 90ºx 60º Tractrix Horn design for
even, controlled and consistent coverage of the mid and high frequencies in a two-way configuration.
These models also use the high performance 1" compression driver for dynamic and detailed presentation.
All KLF series speakers use dual bass drivers that incorporate large, powerful magnet structures for high output. A proprietary mix of carbon graphite, polypropylene and Santoprene®result in an injec-
tion-molded cone that is rigid, light and well damped.
PLACEMENT OF THE LEGEND KLF TOWERS
Both speakers should be placed on the same wall of the room facing the listening area. Space the
loudspeakers so they are between six and 15 feet apart. In a home theater system, some correlation between the size of the video image and the sonic image may dictate final placement of the speakers.
a higher quality stereo image, angle, or toe in, the speakers toward the listener. Some additional bass
will result if you place the speakers in a corner or near a wall: This provides greater bass coupling
due to the additional reflected energy from the walls and floor. Room acoustics vary, so experiment
with specific placement within the room.
Installation of KLF 20 and KLF 30 Spike Feet
The larger KLF models have four threaded inserts, covered with a soft vinyl cap, on the bottom of
the cabinet. If the speaker will be used on a hard surface, these caps should be left in place to provide a non-skid surface. Also included in the carton are four spike feet. The spike feet will enhance the
performance of your KLF series loudspeaker by concentrating the weight of the speaker on the
spikes, improving the mechanical connection to the floor (especially on carpet). This improves the
definition, clarity and detail of the speaker by channeling cabinet vibration into the floor. The spikes
are intended for use on carpet, but may also be used on hardwood, vinyl or tile floors. Be advised that they will scratch or mar the floor’s surface. In either case, final positioning of the speaker should be determined before the spikes are installed. Mark the speaker’s location on the floor with masking
tape, install the spikes and reposition in the desired location.
