The IC-5T in-ceiling loudspeaker system shall include
a 5.25" (13.3cm) diameter low-frequency transducer
utilizing a 1" (2.54cm) voice coil on a Kapton® former,
injection-molded graphite cone and butyl rubber
surround. The high-frequency driver shall be of a postmounted, coaxial design utilizing a 1" (2.54cm) aluminum
diaphragm coupled to a 90º x 90º Tractrix horn that shall
be adjustable ±15º off the vertical axis. Signal shall be
applied to the transducers via a passive, internal
frequency-dividing network. Enclosure tuning shall
be of a non-vented design.
Frequency response shall be 95Hz-20kHz±4dB with the
-10dB point at 80Hz. The dispersion angle shall be 90° x
90° nominal (refer to graph). Directivity shall be 8dB
(refer to graph). Sensitivity shall be 83dB SPL, measured
at one meter, half-space anechoic, with a 2.83V input.
Power handling shall be 75W (32.4V) to AES standards,
continuous pink noise, 50Hz to 10kHz, 6dB peaks.
Calculated maximum continuous input at one meter
shall be 104dB SPL. Nominal impedance shall be 16
ohms, with 13 ohms minimum at 20Hz. Internal passive
crossover frequency shall be 2.3kHz, with slopes of
18dB/octave for the low frequency and 18dB/octave
for the high frequency. Full-range connections shall be
made via barrier strip termination. An integral termination box with a removable, screw-down cover plate
that incorporates knock-outs for both entry and exit
fittings for either flex or rigid conduit in both

/2" and 3/4"
fittings shall be formed into the top of the enclosure. The
loudspeaker system shall be capable of being powered
in either of two operational modes: nominal 16 ohm
operation or selectable, multi-tap, 70.7V/100V operation. 16 ohm/70.7/100V operational modes are selected
by connecting to the appropriately marked terminals on
the input barrier strip. Transformer taps shall be selected
by a rotary switch on the front baffle at nominal ratings
of 3.8W, 7.5W, 15W, 30W (70.7V) or 7.5W, 15W and 30W
(100V). For 16 ohm operation, the rotary switch must be
set to 16 ohms.
The enclosure shall be constructed of 18 gauge, zincplated steel and the baffle/surface mounting hardware
of UL94V-0 fire-rated, high-impact polystyrene.
Dimensions for the enclosure shall not exceed 9.625"
(24.4cm) overall depth from the bottom of the ceiling
plane. The loudspeaker assembly shall weigh no more
than 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg) including all provided mounting
mechanisms. A seismic tab shall be provided on the
metal enclosure for cabling to a secondary support
point. Transformer taps are accessible from the front
baffle, underneath the grille.
The recommended diameter for the
IC-5T cut-out area is 8.25
".
For production units manufactured after Q3 2002, the loudspeaker system shall comply with the following listings: UL 1480
(Speakers for fire protective signaling systems); UL 2043 (Fire
tests for heat and visible smoke release for discrete product
and their accessories installed in air handling spaces); NFPA-70
(National Electric Code 1996, Article 300-22(C)); and NFPA 90A
(Installation of air conditioning and ventilation systems, Section
3.10.1(a) Exception 3).
The loudspeaker system shall include a backing support to
reinforce the ceiling material and tile bridge rails for use either

x 4’, 2’x 2’or 60cm x 120cm suspended ceiling structures. All loudspeaker mounting systems shall be installed from
the occupied side of the ceiling structure.
The loudspeaker shall be a Klipsch IC-5T.

SPECIFICATIONS
The IC-5T is a self-contained, in-ceiling, twoway loudspeaker system that incorporates
the traditional Klipsch hallmark of high efficiency due to its Tractrix
®
horn-loaded highfrequency section. The IC-5T’s compact size,
low visual impact and high output make it
ideal for office, retail, hospitality and other
environments where both sound quality and
aesthetics are important.
The low frequency is delivered by a 5.25"
injection-molded graphite cone with a butyl
surround and a 1" voice coil to ensure longterm, high power handling without cone
breakup. The high-frequency aluminum
dome on a 1" voice coil is coupled to a
90º x 90º Tractrix horn for precise pattern
control. The high-frequency section offers a
±15º adjustment off the vertical axis to allow
for architectural considerations or room
acoustics.
The IC-5T is designed to meet all current
requirements for commercial installations,
compliant with the following: UL 1480,
UL 2043, NFPA 70 and NFPA 90-A. Listing is
expected for units produced after Q3 2002.
The input termination cover accommodates
two fittings for either
1
/2" or 3/4" nominal rigid
or flex conduit; both fittings are included.
The IC-5T has been designed with a variety
of features to reduce contractor inventory
and increase job site productivity. The
IC-5Ts are shipped in pairs, complete with
adjustable tile bridges and support rings. This
loudspeaker support structure is suitable for
both domestic and European lay-in ceiling
grids, gypsum board and other ceiling
materials. The transformer taps are accessible from the front baffle underneath the
grille. The optional R-650-IK installation kit is
also available. The only assembly tool
required is a #2 crosshead screwdriver.
The IC-5T loudspeaker assembly is covered
by the Klipsch limited five-year warranty.
