CERTIFICATION, INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE
1. Certification For Use In Potentially Explosive Atmospheres
These instructions apply to the following models covered by approval certificate number
SIRA03ATEX1152:
18-980006 230V AC 50Hz, 2.3A, time rating – 20 minutes intermittent use
18-980361 110V AC 50Hz, 3.7A, time rating – 20 minutes intermittent use
These models are approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres according to the
following classification:
II 2 G EExd IIB T6
a. The equipment is certified for use with flammable gases and vapours with apparatus
groups IIA and IIB
20ºC to +40ºC and should not be used outside this range.
b. Installation shall be carried out by suitably-trained personnel in accordance with the
applicable code of practice e.g. EN 60079-14:1997.
c. Inspection and maintenance of this equipment shall be carried out by suitably trained
personnel in accordance with the applicable code of practice e.g. EN 60079-17.
d. This equipment must be returned to Klaxon Signals Ltd for repair or replacement of
parts.
e. The enclosure has passed ingress protection test to a minimum of IP65.
f. The certification of this equipment relies upon the following materials used in its
construction: ALUMINIUM LM4M (SAND CAST) TO BS 1490
If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, then it is the responsibility of
the user to take suitable precautions that prevent it from being adversely affected, thus ensuring that the
type of protection provided by the equipment is not compromised.

Protection Concept.
Before opening the enclosure, take note that the mechanical tolerances, finish and fit of the
"spigot' type of joint between the case and the cover are crucial to the Protection Concept
and these surfaces must not be damaged. Therefore, extreme caution must be exercised in
removing the cover. Please use the supplied guide pins for removal as well as for
replacement of the cover. Exchange three alternate (or two opposite) screws for guide pins
before removing the remaining screws and removing the cover. The guide pins can be left in
place while the electrical connections are made. Apply 5Nm tightening torque when
replacing the screws.
a. Electrical connection must be effected as shown in the connection diagram.
b. It is the responsibility of the installer to select the correct equipment for the gas group
involved.
c. Cable entry temperature may exceed 70°C. Select an appropriate cable.
d. Use only suitably certified cable entry glands.
e. Comply with the instructions on the warning label on the equipment.
f. This equipment should only be connected to the supply voltage marked on the rating
plate.
g. The motor in this siren is rated for intermittent use only. The siren incorporates a thermal
cut-out device which will trip when the temperature of the motor exceeds a predetermined level. The exact period of time before the trip activates depends on ambient
temperature but will normally be 15 to 20 minutes. The trip automatically resets once the
motor has cooled down sufficiently.
Failure to comply with these instructions may result in a breach of the
