Introduction
Thank you for purchasing your Xtreme Life HD hidden camera system, before you get started, allow us to introduce you to some of the main components of your hidden camera. Xtreme Life™ HD is a hidden camera with 720P video resolution, making your device a high denition video system. Xtreme Life™ HD was designed to be a long life battery-operated hidden video recorder. To accomplish extended battery life, your system uses a technology known as PIR(Passive Infrared). You’ll nd the PIR sensor located next to or near your camera. The PIR sensor regulates power to the internal video recording components and is the triggering system that initiates recording. When there is no activity in range of the PIR sensor, the camera and the DVR will be powered down. When the sensor is triggered it will send a signal to turn on the camera and begin recording almost instantly. The less activity the longer the system will maintain battery life.
All of our SleuthGear line of hidden cameras are designed and assembled in Nashville, TN USA, and backed by our 1 year warranty. Visit our website to see the full line of SleuthGear hidden cameras at www.mysleuthgear.com
We invite you to explore the Quick Setup Guide below to learn more about how to operate your Xtreme Life™ HD hidden camera.
Quick Setup Guide
1. Take the unit from box and ensure you have received all included items(pg. 3).
2. Open the device to insert the memory card into the memory card slot and connect the battery, turning it on after the connection is made.
3. To conrm the device is ready, connect the provided video cable from the unit to your TV video input and create motion in front of the camera to see a live video feed and make a sample recording.
4. Your device is now ready to be placed in the area of desired surveillance.
5. Default recording setting is PIR detection. Once the power is turned on and the device recognizes the memory card, the DVR will begin to record based on PIR detection(see note below).
**Special Note about PIR (Passive Infrared) Technology**
Each Xtreme Life™ DVR has a built in PIR sensor that detects levels of infrared radiation, the use of which makes the battery life so long. Everything emits some level of radiation. The hotter an object is the more radiation it emits. Changes in radiation levels are considered as motion by the DVR, which will then turn on and begin to record. The PIR sensor requires very little power, so the DVR will be o even though the PIR sensor is still detecting radiation. When the PIR detects a change in radiation, the DVR will turn on and begin to record. The DVR takes approximately 3 seconds to turn on and start recording.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I playback my video?
A. From the device, you can press the play button on the provided remote control to play the recorded les
back on your Television. You must have the output cable plugged into your Television, then select the proper input on your TV to display video from the unit.
Q. What media player software should I use to playback the recorded les?
A. The recorded les are in the .AVI format, which is able to be played back on software such as Windows
Media Player and others often pre-installed on a personal computer. If you are having trouble with playback, try downloadable software such as the free open-source player VLC (videolan.org). (If the les are put on a CD or DVD, some DVD or Blu-ray players are able to directly playback the .AVI format – please consult your device’s user manual for compatibility.)
Q. What happens if there are no video les on my Memory Card?
A. By default the unit is set to PIR detection. If you have had no activity, you will have no video les.
Q. I can’t nd my video les?
A. To directly access your les, you need to remove the memory card from your device and access it from a PC.
If the card is not instantly recognized, go to My Computer and search for devices listed as Removable Storage or drives listed as Removable Disk.
Q. How do I reset my unit back to the way I got it?
A. Restoring the unit to its factory default settings can be done in the menu > Setting> Factory Default > Yes –
see page 10.
Q. Why does my device quickly turn o when trying to access the menu?
A. Any one of the following conditions will automatically put the device into sleep mode:
• No memory card is inserted
• Completely exiting the Menu
• Upon pressing the Menu to exit the Playback mode
• memory card is full and Storage Mode is set to Fullstop
• Recording Schedule is set to ‘None’
For units that have Night Vision (IRs); not all Xtreme Life HD units come with this option, please check your receipt:
Q. Why are my Night Vision images not that bright?
A. Covert placement of the camera and IR sensor aect image quality in each individual product form. Move
the unit to dierent locations to test the video quality. You will experience pixilation with any night vision camera. SleuthGear® strives to maintain a balance between creating a reliable hidden camera and recording in extreme low light conditions.
While SleuthGear® makes a concerted eort to test Night Vision products in dierent low-light situations, we cannot replicate every possible lighting environment at a customer’s location.
