Proper Disposal of Your Old Wine Cellar

WARNING

Suffocation Hazard Remove door from your old wine cellar. Failure to do so can result in death or brain damage.

IMPORTANT: Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems of the past. Junked or abandoned wine cellars are still dangerous – even if they will sit for “just a few days.” If you are getting rid of your old wine cellar, please follow these instructions to help prevent accidents.

Before You Throw Away Your Old Wine Cellar:

■ Take off the door.

■ Leave the racks in place so that children may not easily climb

inside.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Location Requirements

WARNING

Explosion Hazard

Keep flammable materials and vapors, such as gasoline, away from wine cellar.

Failure to do so can result in death, explosion, or fire.

To ensure proper ventilation for your wine cellar, allow for a 5" (127 mm) space between the back of the beverage center and the wall. When installing your beverage center next to a fixed wall, leave 13¹⁄₄" (33.7 cm) minimum clearance on the hinge side to allow for the door to swing open.

NOTE:

■ It is recommended that you do not install the wine cellar

near an oven, radiator, or other heat source. Do not install in a location where the temperature will fall below 55°F (13°C). For best performance, do not install the wine cellar behind a cabinet door.

■ It is recommended that you install the wine cellar in a

location that allows the door to have a greater than 45° opening. A limited door swing will keep the shelves from sliding out as intended and may lead to damaging the door gasket.

■ The rough cabinet opening must be on a level floor and at

least 24" (60 cm) deep and 12¹⁄₂" (31.75 cm) wide.

Electrical Requirements

fire, or electrical shock.

Before you move your wine cellar into its final location, it is important to make sure you have the proper electrical connection.

Recommended grounding method

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only, 15– or 20–amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only your wine cellar be provided. Use an outlet that cannot be turned off by a switch. Do not use an extension cord.

NOTE: Before performing any type of installation or cleaning unplug wine cellar or disconnect power.

Unpack the Wine Cellar

Use two or more people to move and install wine cellar. Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.

Remove the Packaging

■ Remove tape and glue residue from surfaces before turning

on the wine cellar. Rub a small amount of liquid dish soap over the adhesive with your fingers. Wipe with warm water and dry.

■ Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable

fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These products can damage the surface of your wine cellar. For more information, see “Wine Cellar Safety.”

■ Dispose of/recycle all packaging materials.

When Moving Your Wine Cellar:

Your wine cellar is heavy. When moving the wine cellar for cleaning or service, be sure to cover the floor with cardboard or hardboard to avoid floor damage. Always pull the wine cellar straight out when moving it. Do not wiggle or “walk” the wine cellar when trying to move it, as floor damage could occur.

Clean Before Using

After you remove all of the packaging materials, clean the inside of your wine cellar before using it. See the cleaning instructions in “Wine Cellar Care.”

Wine Cellar Doors

TOOLS NEEDED: #2 Phillips screwdriver; adjustable wrench IMPORTANT: All graphics referenced in the following instructions

are included later in this section after “Final Steps.” The graphics shown are for a right-hand swing door (hinges factory installed on the right).

Reverse Door Swing (optional)

1. Remove the plastic door pin cap from the top left side of the

door and reinstall it on the right side of the door.

2. Remove the 3 plastic screw caps from the top left side of the

cabinet and transfer them to the top right side of the cabinet. See Graphic 1.

3. Install the top hinge on the left side of the cabinet and secure

with the 3 screws.

4. Install the hinge cover over the top hinge using the 2 screws.

5. Install the 2 plastic screw caps on the hinge cover.

6. Insert the top corner of the door into the top hinge pin and

reinstall the door on the wine cellar.

7. Using the left side bottom hinge supplied with your wine

cellar, insert the hinge pin into the bottom of the door. See Graphic 6.

8. Align the hinge holes with the holes in the cabinet and secure

with 3 screws.

9. Install the leveling leg that was in the right bottom hinge into

the left bottom hinge. See Graphic 4.

10. Install the leveling leg that was on the left side of the wine

cellar onto the right side. See Graphic 5.

Remove Door and Hinges

1. Unplug wine cellar or disconnect power.

2. Place the wine cellar on its back.

3. Unscrew the two leveling legs, one from the bottom hinge on

the right hand side and one from the left hand side of the cabinet. See graphics 4 and 5.

4. Remove the 3 screws from the bottom hinge and remove the

bottom hinge. See Graphic 3. NOTE: Keep the hinge in the event the wine cellar door needs

to be returned to its original door swing.

5. Remove the door by pulling it downward and off the top pin

and set aside.

6. Remove the 2 plastic screw caps located on the top of the

hinge cover. See Graphic 2.

7. Remove the screws holding the hinge cover to the top hinge

and remove the top hinge cover. See Graphic 2.

8. Remove the 3 screws from the top hinge and remove the top

hinge. See Graphic 2.

Final Steps

1. Check the alignment of the door and the door seals.

2. Check that the door lock slides easily into the lock chamber.

3. Tighten all hinge screws.

4. Return the wine cellar to its upright position and wait

60 minutes before reconnecting the power.

Leveling Leg

Door Closing

Your wine cellar has two leveling legs. If your wine cellar seems unsteady or you want the door to close more easily, adjust the wine cellar’s tilt using the instructions below.

1. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

2. Move the wine cellar into its final location.

3. Turn the leveling legs to the right to lower the wine cellar or

turn the leveling legs to the left to raise it. It may take several turns of the leveling legs to adjust the tilt of the wine cellar.

NOTE: Having someone push against the top of the wine cellar takes some weight off the leveling legs. This makes it easier to adjust the leveling legs.

4. Make sure that the door closes as easily as you like. If not, tilt

the wine cellar slightly more to the rear by turning both front leveling screws to the right. It may take several more turns, and you should turn both leveling legs the same amount.

Using the Control

Your wine cellar has electronic temperature controls that allow you to set the temperature in both the upper and lower compartments. This allows you to select the exact temperature to meet your specific wine storage needs.

Adjusting Controls

The temperature of the wine cellar can be set in a range between 39°F (4°C) and 64°F (18°C). Each compartment can be set to a different temperature in that range.

To set the upper compartment temperature, press the Set Upper button. The temperature will change by 1 degree each time the button is pressed.

To set the lower compartment temperature, press the Set Lower button. The temperature will change by 1 degree each time the button is pressed.

WINE CELLAR USE

Normal Sounds

Your new wine cellar may make sounds that your old one didn’t make. Because the sounds are new to you, you might be concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hard surfaces, such as the flooring and surrounding structures, can make the sounds seem louder. The following describes the kinds of sounds and what may be making them.

■ Your wine cellar is designed to run more efficiently to keep

your food items at the desired temperatures and to minimize energy usage. The high efficiency compressor and fans may cause your wine cellar to run longer than your old one. You may also hear a pulsating or high-pitched sound from the compressor or fans adjusting to optimize performance.

■ Rattling noises may come from the flow of refrigerant or items

stored inside the wine cellar.

■ As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurgling sound due to

the refrigerant flowing in your wine cellar.

■ You may hear water running into the drain pan when the wine

cellar is defrosting.

■ You may hear clicking sounds when the wine cellar starts or

stops running.

The temperature separator displays the current temperatures (Fahrenheit or Celsius) for the upper and lower compartments of the wine cellar. To switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius, press and hold the Set Upper and Set Lower buttons simultaneously for approximately 5 seconds until a beep sounds and the display changes.

To view the current temperature setting for a compartment, press the button for that compartment once, and the temperature will flash for 5 seconds and then will return to the current temperature.

Lock

The wine cellar is equipped with a lock that is located behind the door handle. To lock the wine cellar, insert the key all the way into the lock and turn clockwise. To unlock, turn the key counterclockwise.

Wine Racks

To Remove and Replace the Wine Racks

1. To remove a rack, tilt the rear of the rack up and pull forward.

2. To replace the rack, place the rack on the support brackets

and push the rack down until it locks into place.

Stocking the Wine Cellar

The wine cellar has a maximum capacity of 38 bottles of wine, when the humidors are not in use.

NOTE: For optimum wine storage, place white wines at the bottom of the wine cellar, light red wines in the center and red wines at the top.

To Stock the First Four Racks

1. Starting at the left-hand side, place the bottom of the first

bottle against the back of the wine rack in the rear left corner.

2. Place the second bottle beside the first with the bottom of the

bottle aligned with the front trim of the wine rack.

3. Continue in this manner for the next 3 bottles.

4. Place the base of the sixth bottle in the right rear corner of the

rack.

Lighting the Wine Cellar

The wine cellar has an interior light that comes on any time the door is opened.

The light is controlled by a two-position switch.

| Turns the light on. 0 Sets the light to turn on only when the door is

opened.

with the base of the bottle aligned with the front trim of the wine rack.

To Stock the Bottom Two Racks

Starting on the left hand side of the wine rack, place 5 bottles on the rack with the base of each bottle against the back of the wine rack and the front aligned with the front trim.

Humidors

If humidity conditions are low, it will be necessary to use the humidors.

1. Fill the humidors about ³⁄₄ full with fresh water.

2. Place 1 humidor on the bottom most rack of both the lower

and upper compartment. Place the longest side of the humidor so that it runs parallel with the right wall of the wine cellar.

3. Check the water level occasionally and refill as necessary. NOTE: Each humidor reduces the storage capacity of the wine

cellar by 1 bottle when installed according to instructions.

Explosion Hazard Use nonflammable cleaner. Failure to do so can result in death, explosion, or fire.

Clean the wine cellar about once a month to avoid buildup of odors. Wipe up spills immediately.

To clean your wine cellar:

1. Unplug wine cellar or disconnect power.

2. Remove all racks from inside the wine cellar.

3. Hand wash, rinse, and dry removable parts and interior

surfaces thoroughly. Use a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water.

■ To protect wood trim pieces, do not immerse the entire

rack into water when cleaning.

■ Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window

sprays, scouring cleansers, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, bleaches or cleansers containing petroleum products on plastic parts, interior and door liners or gaskets. Do not use paper towels, scouring pads, or other harsh cleaning tools. These can scratch or damage materials.

■ To help remove odors, you can wash interior walls with a

mixture of warm water and baking soda (2 tbs to 1 qt [26 g to 0.95 L] of water).

4. Wash stainless steel and painted metal exteriors with a clean

sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners, or cleaners containing chlorine. These can scratch or damage materials. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. For additional protection against damage to painted metal exteriors, apply appliance wax (or auto paste wax) with a clean, soft cloth. Do not wax plastic parts.

5. Replace the racks.

6. Wash the humidors in warm soapy water. NOTE: To avoid breakage, do not place the humidor into

warm water immediately after removing from the chilled wine cellar.

7. Plug in wine cellar or reconnect power.

Vacation and Moving Care

Vac ations

If you choose to turn the wine cellar off before you leave, follow these steps.

1. Remove all wine bottles from the wine cellar.

2. Unplug the wine cellar.

3. Clean the wine cellar. See “Cleaning.”

TROUBLESHOOTING

Try the solutions suggested here first in order to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call.

4. Tape a rubber or wood block to the top of the door to prop it

open far enough for air to get in. This stops odor and mold from building up.

Moving

When you are moving your wine cellar to a new home, follow these steps to prepare it for the move.

1. Remove all wine bottles from the wine cellar.

2. Unplug the wine cellar.

3. Clean, wipe, and dry it thoroughly.

4. Take out all removable parts, wrap them well, and tape them

together so they don’t shift and rattle during the move.

5. Tape the doors shut and tape the power cord to the wine

cellar.

When you get to your new home, put everything back and refer to the “Installation Instructions” section for preparation instructions.

Your wine cellar will not operate

WARNING

fire, or electrical shock.

■ Is the power supply cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded

3 prong outlet.

■ Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker

tripped? Replace the fuse or reset the circuit.

The lights do not work

■ Is the power supply cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded

3 prong outlet.

The motor seems to run too much

■ Is the temperature outside hotter than normal? Expect the

motor to run longer under warm conditions. At normal temperatures, expect your motor to run about 40% to 80% of the time. Under warmer conditions, expect it to run even more of the time.

■ Is the door opened often? Expect the motor to run longer

when this occurs. In order to conserve energy, try to get everything you need out of the wine cellar at once, keep wine bottles positioned label side up so that they are easy to find, and close the door as soon as the wine is removed.

■ Is the control set correctly for the surrounding

conditions? See “Using the Control.”

■ Is the door closed completely? Push the door firmly shut. If

it will not shut all the way, see “The door will not close completely” later in this section.

Temperature is too warm

■ Is the door opened often? Be aware that the wine cellar will

warm when this occurs. In order to keep the wine cellar cool, try to get everything you need out of the wine cellar at once, keep wine bottles positioned label side up so that they are easy to find, and close the door as soon as the wine is removed.

■ Is the control set correctly for the surrounding

conditions? See “Using the Control.”

■ Is the exhaust vent blocked? For best performance, do not

install the wine cellar behind a cabinet door or block the exhaust vent.

■ Has a large number of warm bottles been added? Limit

the number of bottles being placed into the wine cellar at one time.

There is interior moisture buildup

■ Is the door opened often? To avoid humidity buildup, try to

get everything you need out of the wine cellar at once, keep wine bottles positioned label side up so that they are easy to find, and close the door as soon as the wine is removed. When the door is opened, humidity from the room air enters the wine cellar. The more often the door is opened, the faster humidity builds up, especially when the room itself is very humid.

■ Is it humid? It is normal for moisture to build up inside the

wine cellar when the air is humid.

■ Is the control set correctly for the surrounding

conditions? See “Using the Control.”

The door is difficult to open

WARNING

■ Is the gasket dirty or sticky? Clean the gasket and the

surface that it touches. Rub a thin coat of paraffin wax on the gasket following cleaning.

The door will not close completely

■ Are the racks out of position? Put the racks back into their

correct positions. See “Wine Cellar Use” for more information.
