Your safety and the safety of others are very important.

We have provided many important safety messages in this manual and on your appliance. Always read and obey all safety messages.

Do not wash plastic items unless they are marked “dishwasher safe” or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked, check the manufacturer's recommendations.

■

Do not touch the heating element during or immediately after use.

■

Do not operate the dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are properly in place.

■

Do not tamper with controls.

Do not abuse, sit on, or stand on the door, lid, or dish racks of the dishwasher.

To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children to play in or on the dishwasher.

■

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period, before using the dishwasher turn on all hot water faucets and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.

■

Remove the door or lid to the washing compartment when removing an old dishwasher from service or discarding it.

■

Refer to Installation Instructions for instructions pertaining to grounding.

START-UP GUIDE

Before using your dishwasher, remove all packaging materials. Read this entire Use and Care Guide. You will find important safety information and useful operating tips.

NOTE: Each drawer has its own control panel and can run independently of the other.

Using Your NewDishwasher

1. Rinse aid is essential for good drying. Be sure to fill the rinse

aid dispenser before you use your new dishwasher. Each filling will last about 1 to 2 months depending on your usage. (See “Rinse Aid Dispenser.”)

2. Scrape large food soil and hard items (toothpicks or bones)

from dishes.

3. Check drain filter and spray arm. (See “Cleaning.”) Ensure the

drain filter is flush with the filter plate, and the spray arm can rotate about the center easily.

4. Properly load the dishwasher. (See “Dishwasher Loading.”)

Load dishes with space in between so water will reach the soiled surfaces. Make sure nothing prevents the spray arm(s) from spinning freely.

6. Run hot water at the sink until the water is hot. (See

“Performance Tips.”) Turn off water.

7. Press the Power pad on the front of the drawer to turn the

dishwasher on or off. When the drawer is opened, the dishwasher will automatically power up for 30 seconds even if the Power pad has not been pressed. If no program selection is made, it will power off again.

8. Press the (Cycle Select) or the HI TEMP pad on the top of

the drawer opening to select the desired wash cycle. Continue to press the (Cycle Select) or the HI TEMP pad, and the indicators will progress through the different cycles until the desired cycle is selected. The next time you use the dishwasher, it will remember the last cycle used. (See “Wash Cycles.”)

9. Push drawer firmly closed. Press the Start/Pause button on

the front of the drawer to start the wash cycle.

5. Add powdered detergent. Always use a high quality brand

detergent. (See “Dishwasher Use.”) IMPORTANT: Only use powdered detergent recommended

for dishwashers. Do not use liquid or tablet detergents. Wash performance could be negatively impacted if you use anything other than powdered detergent.

NOTES:

■ If the dishwasher is operating and a power failure occurs,

it will stop. You may not be able to open the drawer at this time. When the power supply is resumed, the dishwasher will start in the same part of the wash cycle.

■ To end the wash cycle in mid-cycle, press the Power pad.

Any water in the drawer will be pumped out.

10. The dishwasher will beep 6 times to indicate the end of the

wash cycle. At the end of the wash cycle, the drying fan will continue to run for a set time or until the drawer is opened. The fan assists with drying and uses small amounts of energy.

NOTE: It is normal for some water to remain in the drain filter area after the wash cycle is complete.

The wash system provides excellent cleaning results. Two levels of filtration filter the wash water and prevent food particles from redepositing on the clean dishes.

■ A filter plate prevents bones, pits, and other large objects

from entering the pump system.

■ Items small enough to pass through the filter plate are caught

in the drain filter.

■ The wash water continuously flows through the drain filter,

trapping food particles.

IMPORTANT: Before each wash load, check the drain filter for evidence of food particles and clean. (A small amount of water will remain in the drain filter area.) Food scraps may collect on the filter plate, and the spray arm and filter plate may need cleaning. The spray arm and filter plate may need cleaning about once a month in normal use or more often, should the need arise. (See “Cleaning the Spray Arm, Drain Filter and Filter Plate.”)

Quiet operating tips

To avoid thumping/clattering noises during operation:

■ Make sure lightweight load items are secured in the rack.

■ Make sure pot lids and handles, etc., do not touch interior

walls or interfere with the rotation of the spray arm.

■ Load dishes so they do not touch one another.

Loading Rack

NOTE: If the rack is incorrectly placed in the drawer, the rack can block the spray arm rotation. The rack is properly installed if it is sitting flat on the bottom of the drawer.

The rack is designed for cups, glasses, plates, pans, casseroles and utensils. Many items, up to 11" (28.38 cm), fit in the rack. (See recommended loading patterns shown.)

IMPORTANT: Do not load anything above the inside top edge of the drawer as it may prevent the drawer lid from properly closing.

Sound System

The WHISPER QUIET® sound insulation system helps to maintain a quiet home environment during dishwasher operation.

NOTE: If you do not load dishes properly, the quiet operation of your dishwasher could be affected. (See “Dishwasher Loading.”)

Drying System

At the end of the selected wash cycle, the drying fan will continue to run for a set time or until the drawer is opened. The fan assists with drying and uses a small amount of energy.

DISHWASHER LOADING

Loading Suggestions

■ Remove leftover food, bones, toothpicks and other hard

items from the dishes. To conserve water, energy and save time it is not necessary to rinse dishes before putting them into the dishwasher.

NOTE: Dishes soiled with tomato-based products should be prerinsed to avoid staining.

■ It is important for the water spray to reach all soiled surfaces.

■ Load dishes so they are not stacked or overlapping if

possible. For best drying, water must be able to drain from all surfaces.

■ Use special care when loading heavy pots and pans. Heavy

items can damage the interior of the door if they are dropped or bumped.

■ Make sure pot lids and handles, etc., do not interfere with the

spray arm rotation.

■ Conserve water, energy and save time over hand rinsing by

running a rinse cycle to keep dishes moist if you do not plan to wash them soon. Foods such as eggs, rice, pasta, spinach, and cooked cereals may be hard to remove if they are left to dry over a period of time.

Fold-Down Cup Shelves

Fold down the cup shelves on the sides of the drawer to hold additional cups, stemware or long items such as utensils and spatulas. Fold up when you need room for larger items in the main rack.

SURE-HOLD® light item clips

The light item clips hold lightweight plastic items such as cups, lids, or bowls in place during washing.

To move a clip

1. Pull the clip up and off the tine.

2. Reposition the clip on another tine.

SURE-HOLD® base rack and removable rack inserts

The SURE-HOLD® removable rack inserts (see illustration below) allow you to adjust the rack for the type of load you are washing. You can remove one or more of the inserts to customize the rack for a particular load. This is useful when washing a variety of dishes, pots and pans, or roasters.

■ Place items so open ends face down for cleaning and

draining.

■ China, crystal, and other delicate items must not touch each

other during dishwasher operation. Damage may occur.

■ Load small items in the rack only if they are secured in place.

■ Load plastic items so the force of the spray does not move

them during the cycle. Only plastic items marked “dishwasher safe” are recommended.

■ To avoid chipping, do not let stemware touch other items.

■ Small bowls, pans, and other utensils can be placed in the

rack.

■ Load plates, soup bowls, etc., between tines.

■ Overlap the edges of plates for large loads.

■ Load soup, cereal, and serving bowls in the rack in a variety

of ways depending upon their size and shape. Load bowls securely between the rows of tines. Do not nest bowls because the spray will not reach all surfaces.

■ Load cake pans and other large items at the sides and back.

Loading such items in front can keep the water spray from reaching the rinse aid dispenser.

■ Secure heavily soiled cookware face down in the rack.

NOTE: The removable inserts are not designed to be lifted out of the drawer while loaded with dishes.

To remove either insert

1. Gently pull in and up on the handle to release the insert

handle from the base rack.

2. Once the handle is lifted up, tilt the insert to the left or right to

release the insert legs on the other end from their position under the base rack wire.

To install either insert

1. Tilt the rack insert end to the left or right to insert the legs

under the base rack wires as shown below.

Load the silverware basket while it is in the rack or take the basket out for loading on a counter or table. The silverware basket can be removed for easy unloading.

Use the center section with cover down to load silverware in set positions and avoid nesting. Mix items in end sections of the basket with some pointing up and some down to avoid nesting. Spray cannot reach nested items.

Place small items such baby bottle caps, jar lids, corncob holders, etc., in the middle section with the hinged cover. Close the cover over the section to hold small items in place.

2. Straighten the insert into position along the bottom of the

base rack.

3. Gently pull in and push down on the insert handle until the

insert locks into position in the base rack.

Loading SilverwareBasket

The FLEXI-BASKET™ silverware basket can be separated and placed into the rack in several locations. Hold joined basket firmly and slide each basket until the tab aligns with the keyhole on the back of each basket and pull apart. Now use both sections or just one to load silverware.

To remove the center basket cover

1. Slide the cover to one side until one hinge end pops out of

the holder.

2. Tilt cover and slide in the opposite direction until the other

hinge end pops out of holder. Remove cover.

To install the center basket cover

1. Insert a cover hinge end into holder on one side.

2. Slide the cover until you can insert the opposite hinge end

into the holder on the other side and slide into place.

IMPORTANT: Always load items (knives, skewers, etc.) pointing down.

NOTES:

■ Do not load silver or silver-plated silverware with stainless

steel. These metals can be damaged by contact with each other during washing.

■ Some foods (such as salt, vinegar, milk products, fruit juices,

etc.) can pit or corrode silverware. Run a rinse cycle if you do not have a full load to wash immediately.

■ Check the bottom of the silverware basket to ensure items

have not come through as they may stop spray arm rotation.

DISHWASHER USE

Detergent Use

The detergent and rinse aid dispenser is located on the front inside wall of the drawer. The detergent dispenser has two sections, the pre wash section is the smaller and the other is for the main wash detergent. The pre wash and main wash sections both have inside fill line markings. The pre wash section has one marking which represents 1 tsp (5 mL). When it is full, it holds 2 tsp (10 mL). The main wash section has two markings, the lowest mark indicates 2 tsp (10 mL), the middle mark 4 tsp (20 mL), and when it is full it contains 6 tsp (30 mL).

NOTE: The detergent dispenser is designed for use with powdered detergent. Liquid and tablet detergents are not suitable to be used in the dispenser. (Posts inside dispenser are a reminder not to use detergent tablets.)

How much powdered detergent to use

■ The detergent quantities suggested in the chart are for

individual drawer use.

■ The amount of detergent to use depends on the hardness of

your water and the type of detergent. If you use too little, dishes will not be clean. If you use too much in soft water, glassware will etch.

■ Water hardness can change over a period of time. Find out

your water’s hardness by asking your local water department, water softener company, or county extension agent.

■ You can order, at no charge, a water hardness test strip. In

the U.S.A., call the Customer Interaction Center and ask for Part Number 4171690. (See “Assistance or Service.”)

■ Different brands of dishwasher detergent have different

amounts of phosphorus for softening water. If you have hard water and use a detergent with a phosphorous content of less than 8.7%, you might need to use more detergent, or use a detergent with a phosphorous content higher than 8.7%.

IMPORTANT:

■ Use powdered, automatic dishwashing detergent only. Other

detergents can produce excessive suds that can overflow out of the dishwasher and reduce washing performance.

■ Add detergent just before starting a cycle.

■ Store tightly closed detergent in a cool, dry place. Using

fresh, automatic dishwasher detergent results in better cleaning.

NOTE: Do not use detergent with a rinse cycle.

**No detergent is required in pre wash section for the Quick

Clean and Light/China cycles.

1. Press the latch down and the door will open.

2. Pour in detergent. No detergent is needed for the Rinse cycle.

3. After filling the section(s), close the dispenser door until it

clicks shut. The detergent will automatically be released into the drawer during the wash cycle.

Rinse AidDispenser

The regular use of liquid rinse aid gives the best drying results. Rinse aids prevent water from forming droplets that can dry as spots or streaks. They also help prevent metal from tarnishing. They improve drying by allowing water to drain off of the dishes during the final rinse. Your dishwasher is designed to use a liquid rinse aid. Do not use a solid or bar-type rinse aid.

The rinse aid dispenser is located on the front inside of the drawer underneath the detergent dispenser.

How much rinse aid to use

The regulator may need adjusting to suit your water conditions. The lowest setting is “1” and the highest is “5.” For hard water, the rinse aid dispenser should be used with its setting fixed at 5. (See “Option Selections and Adjustments” section.)

NOTE: If there is excessive foam at the end of the wash, reduce the rinse aid dispenser setting. If dishes are wet or streaky after drying, increase the rinse aid dispenser setting.

Filling the rinse aid dispenser

The rinse aid dispenser holds 1.7 oz (50.28 mL) of rinse aid. Under normal conditions, this will last for about 1 to 2 months. Try to keep it full, but be sure not to overfill it.

1. Turn the plug counterclockwise and remove.

2. Pour the rinse aid into the circular opening.

PerformanceTips

Hot water dissolves and activates the dishwashing detergent. Hot water also dissolves grease on dishes and helps glasses dry spot-free. For best dishwashing results, water should be 120°F (49°C) as it enters the dishwasher. Loads may not wash as well if the water temperature is too low. Water that is too hot can make some soils harder to remove and cause certain detergent ingredients not to function. If your water heater is located far from the dishwasher, it may be necessary to run the hot water at the faucet closest to the dishwasher to minimize the amount of cold water in the water line.

To check water temperature

1. Run hot water at the faucet closest to your dishwasher for at

least 1 minute.

2. Place a candy or meat thermometer in a glass measuring

cup.

3. Check the temperature on the thermometer as the water is

running into the cup.

■ To save water, energy and time, do not rinse dishes before

putting them into the dishwasher.

■ Choose the cycle that describes the most difficult soil on your

dish load.

■ Do not worry about mixed loads. Any item that is dishwasher

safe can be washed using any cycle. (See “NOTES:” in the “Loading Silverware Basket” section.)

■ Use a delay feature to run your dishwasher during off-peak

hours. Local utilities recommend avoiding heavy usage of energy at certain times of day. (See “Option Selections and Adjustments.”)

■ Use a rinse aid to improve drying.

■ Use cycles or options that add extra heat to the wash or rinse

portion of the cycle for better performance.

■ Run your dishwasher with full loads. Run a rinse cycle after

meals until the dishwasher is full.

■ If your home is equipped with a water softener, you may want

to avoid starting the dishwasher during the regeneration of the softener, since this may contribute to poor wash performance.

3. Take care not to spill rinse aid into the drawer. Any spills must

be wiped up to prevent excess foaming.

4. Fit the plug back into the original position.

Rinse Aid indicator

If the rinse aid indicator light is red, refill the dispenser. If the rinse aid indicator light is not lit, there is enough rinse aid for the wash. You do not have to wait until the dispenser is empty to refill.

Select the wash cycle desired. The indicator is lit above the selected cycle. Press the Start/Pause button. This model meets the ENERGY STAR

Canceling aCycle

To end a wash cycle in mid-cycle, press the Power button.

Any water in the drawer will be pumped out.

To pause the drawer during its wash cycle, press START/PAUSE and wait for 3 beeps before opening.

Restart by pressing START/PAUSE. IMPORTANT: Forcing the drawer open in mid-cycle may cause

damage to the dishwasher. NOTE: If the drawer is operating and a power failure occurs, it

will stop. The drawer may not be opened during this time. When the power supply resumes, the drawer will restart in the same part of the wash cycle.

Changing aCycle orSetting

1. Press the Power button to end the current cycle. Wait for the

drawer to drain.

AddingItemsDuringaCycle

You can add an item anytime before the main wash starts. Open the drawer and check the detergent amount. If the detergent is still visible, you can add items.

To add items

1. Press START/PAUSE and wait for 3 beeps before opening the

drawer.

2. If the detergent is still visible in the detergent dispenser, you

may add the item.

3. Close the drawer firmly.

4. Restart by pressing START/PAUSE. IMPORTANT: Forcing the drawer open in mid-cycle may cause

damage to the dishwasher.

Option Selectionsand Adjustments

After using the dishwasher, you may want to use or adjust some of the preset options available to suit your needs. You can select the Lock button, Control lock, Keylock or Delay Start mode. You can adjust the settings for Rinse Aid, Auto Power, and End of Wash Program beeps.

NOTE: Indicator light colors vary depending on your dishwasher. See following descriptions.

2. When the draining stops, open the drawer.

3. Press the desired wash cycle button to select the desired

wash cycle. The lighted indicators will progress until the desired cycle is selected.

4. Check the detergent dispensers. They must be filled properly

for the new cycle. (See “Detergent Use.”)

5. Close the drawer.

6. Press START/PAUSE.

Lock button

The Lock button activates/deactivates the Control lock or the Keylock functions.

Use the Lock button to prevent unintended use of the dishwasher. You can also use either of the lock options to prevent unintended cycle or option changes during a wash cycle.

Control lock

■ The Control lock feature disables all of the buttons on the

dishwasher.

1. To activate, press and hold the Lock button until you hear

1 beep (about 3 seconds).

2. To cancel, press and hold the Lock button until the light

disappears.

Keylock

■ The Keylock feature locks the drawer closed and disables the

dishwasher and all buttons.

1. To activate, press and hold the Lock button until you hear

the 2 beeps (about 5 seconds).

2. To cancel, press and hold the Lock button until the light

disappears.

Delay Start mode

The start of the selected wash cycle can be delayed from 1 to 12 hours.

To activate the Delay Start

1. Press and hold the Start/Pause button until the light above

turns orange or lavender depending on model.

To adjust the Rinse Aid setting

NOTE: If there is excessive foam at the end of the wash, reduce

the rinse aid dispenser setting. If dishes are wet or streaky after drying, increase the rinse aid dispenser setting. (See “How much rinse aid to use.”)

1. Enter the Option Adjustment Mode as explained above. The

light above the Start/Pause button is red to indicate this setting has been chosen.

2. The current Rinse Aid setting is shown on the wash cycle

indicator panel. The number of red lights lit on the panel shows what the current rinse aid setting is. For example, if 4 red lights are lit on the panel, then the Rinse Aid setting is at 4.

2. The dishwasher will beep as you hold down the button. Each

“beep” represents an hour delay, so for each beep while the button is pressed an additional hour delay will be programmed until the desired delay time is reached.

3. Make sure the drawer is closed.

4. The dishwasher will start after the set delay time has elapsed.

To cancel the Delay Start

1. Press the Power button to turn off the dishwasher or hold the

Start/Pause button until the light turns green or blue (depending on model).

To enter the Option Adjustment Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn the dishwasher to the Normal

Operating Mode.

2. Press and hold the HI TEMP and Lock buttons at the same

time for 5 seconds. When the buttons have been correctly pressed, one long beep is sounded and the Start/Pause light is red.

3. Release the HI TEMP and lock buttons.

4. Use the appropriate buttons on the control panel to make the

necessary adjustments. These are explained below.

5. Once the changes have been made, press the Power button

to return to the Normal Operating Mode.

NOTE: The dishwasher automatically saves these changes.

3. Press the Lock button to increase or decrease the Rinse Aid

setting, the red lights will scroll up to 5 and then start from 1again.

4. Once you have selected the desired Rinse Aid setting, press

the Power button to return to the Normal Operating Mode.

To remove the Auto Power setting

When the dishwasher leaves the factory, it is programmed to automatically power up whenever the drawer is opened even if the Power pad has not been pressed. The dishwasher will not start washing until the drawer is closed and the Start/Pause button has been pressed. If you do not want the dishwasher to automatically power up, this feature can be turned off.

1. Enter the Option Adjustment Mode as explained at the

beginning of this section.

2. Press the Start/Pause button until the light above is orange or

lavender (depending on model), and the light above the HI TEMP button is red. If it is not, press the Power button to return to Normal Operating Mode and start again.

3. Press the Lock button to turn the Auto Power feature on or

off. If all the red lights on the wash cycle panel are off, then the Auto Power feature has been turned off.

4. Press the Power button to return to the Normal Operating
